About the property

Quiet, 1-Bedroom Apartment With Private Deck Overlooking Garden

A secluded retreat in Gloucester's historic Rocky Neck Cultural District, this is a great vacation getaway- ideal for a single person or couple. Visitors have appreciated the peaceful atmosphere which lends itself perfectly to those who not only want downtime, but maybe some focused work or creative time as well.

Completed in 2013, this second story apartment is located at the entrance to one of America’s oldest working Art Colonies. Just steps away you'll find Wonson and Smith Coves, The Gloucester Stage Company Theater, the Cultural Center at Rocky Neck, galleries, shops and restaurants. Enjoy regular musical events, bike Gloucester's beautiful coastline, kayak its large, protected harbor or just have a relaxing stroll down Rocky Neck. Niles Beach is a 10-minute walk away, Good Harbor Beach and downtown Gloucester are 5-minutes by car.

Windows on all four sides provide a steady sea breeze and lots of light. Grill and dine on the deck overlooking the garden with seasonal brook, large willow tree and many flowers and herbs. Cooks will find a well-equipped kitchen, staple pantry items, and are invited to use fresh herbs from the garden!

If you are an artist, you can paint plein air in the garden, or visit owner/artist Rokhaya Waring's studio/gallery also on the property.

About Rokhaya Waring

I am a working artist and member of the Rocky Neck Art Colony. My studio is situated between our house and The Willow House. You are welcome to visit my studio during your stay. To see my artwork and for more info please visit my website or FaceBook: Rokhaya Waring Art

Why Rokhaya Waring chose North of Boston & Greater Merrimack Valley

We are in a quiet garden setting, but at the same time so close to a bustling small city, rich with history, places to visit and things to do. We have beaches, wildlife, and sunsets over the ocean, a wealth of cultural events and restaurants- all within an incredibly friendly community. This area of Gloucester feels like a village, with everything one needs or desires close by, and we often feel that we are on vacation- right here at home.

What makes this apartment unique

My husband and I love living in this area that has inspired so many artists: Fitz Henry Lane, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper, John Sloan, and Marsden Hartley- to name just a few.

We cherish being able to walk to Rocky Neck for breakfast at Sailor Stan's, dinner at The Rudder, or for a freshly baked muffin and a newspaper at The Last Stop. We love to stroll to the end of the Neck to see the old Copper Paint Factory (now the headquarters for Ocean Alliance), and through America's oldest shipyard (Gloucester Marine Railways) to see the boats being worked on. The beauty here is intense and genuine.

perfect vacation home

  • 5 of 5

We just spent one week in the Willow House and we couldn't have been happier with our choice. It was the perfect escape from NYC. First the house itself is lovely, quiet and peacful, with beautiful original artwork on the walls, a well stocked kitchen, a great shower, a deck overlooking a lovely garden, and a view of a little cove. Rokhaya and Alex are also very gracious responsive hosts, who welcomed us with delicious cookies and wine and gave us great suggestions for places to eat, visit and walk to. Finally the house is in a perfect location, within walking distance of restaurants, galleries, an ice parlor and a little cafe, but it is also a very convenient base to explore all of the delightful Cape Ann. We just wish we could have stayed longer and we look forward to coming back there again in the not too distant future. We loved it!

Wonderful!! 5 stars!!!

  • 5 of 5

Rokhaya & Alex --and their home--were wonderful!!! The garden is beautifully landscaped and the apartment is bright, sunny & a lovely renovation. Rokhaya & Alex were friendly, helpful and such lovely hosts. I was traveling with two toddlers and it was a tremendous help that Rokhaya & Alex were so accommodating. This is the best experience I've ever had on VRBO!! Highly recommended!!!

1 week is not enough!

  • 5 of 5

We don't get to vacation as much as we'd like, so when we do go, we want it to be wonderful. This latest vacation was exactly that; it was relaxing, fun and thoroughly enjoyable. There was only one issue, it was too short.

We went for 1 week in June, and the weather was great. The apartment is just blocks away from the Gloucester stage, so we went to an amazing show called 'Albatross.' It's right across the street from the art colony 'Rocky Neck' so we went gallery browsing. It's right on the water so we went to a local 'by the dock' restaurant and had some seafood, and finally, it's literally 5 minutes from the beach, so we went there every day!

It was a great holiday and we loved every minute of it, but it was too short.

Next year, we're going for 2 weeks!
