One Bedroom (sleeps 3)

The Colony is a mid-century colonial icon in St. Johns. The property features two fully furnished, stylishly decorated apartments designed to make your stay in the Pacific Northwest inspiring and comfortable. Units can be rented separately, together or in conjunction with any of the adjacent multi-use spaces that make up The Colony.

The Colony is a fully-functioning event space which includes creative office, work and presentation rooms, a commercial commissary kitchen and a movement arts studio.

The apartments are private rooms located on the second floor of the building, however you will enter through the main door and foyer, before following the hallway upstairs. Please be aware, there is no elevator onsite, stairs only. Please note, it is possible that a class or small event could be taking place on the first floor of The Colony during your stay. We will let you know prior to booking if we have something scheduled in one our first floor creative spaces during the dates you request.

The 'Landing Pad,' is a freshly redesigned, mid-century inspired, one-bedroom apartment with plenty of room to cook, dine and entertain in style. A large eat-in kitchen with vintage charm and a chic, open dining/living space make it an excellent home base for longer stays. The bedroom is airy, yet private, looking out towards huge Douglas Firs and year-round greenery. You'll sleep well in a high-quality, queen-sized bed with luxury linens. The full bathroom features a tub/shower combo. In the living room, a sleek Danish daybed makes room for a third guest to sleep comfortably.

About Dayna McErlean

Originally from Staten Island, NY - I'm a mom, restaurant owner and real-estate developer with a background in the arts. I've lived in this neighborhood since moving to Portland in 1996 when I opened a mixed-use art and performance space just in NE Portland. I currently own Yakuza, Nonna & DOC restaurants, Dash, a commissary kitchen and now The Colony.

The Colony is totally unique. Our idea is to provide inspiring and comfortable lodging in an interesting, undiscovered corner of town, but also to think about the expanding needs and wants of today's global creative class.

St. Johns has a feel that is also completely its own. Set apart from the rest of the city by a beautiful, historic bridge, it's a village with blue-collar roots that go back a century, in the process of reinventing itself thanks to a recent influx of young creative businesses.

Lovely spacious apartment

My daughter and I stayed in this lovely, spacious apartment on our recent trip to Portland. The apartment is bright and airy and features lots of interesting mid century touches. It is on the second floor so there will be a few steps to carry your bags up. There was plenty of parking just outside which was very convenient. Our host could not have been more helpful! Thanks so much. We'll look forward to staying with you again when we're back in Portland.

This place was creatively Portlandic. Spacious, comfortable, cool vibe, awesome retro original pink bath fixtures. The whole property was amazingly restored. Very warm family-run management. Lots of great eats of all ilk within easy walking as well as St John's bridge/park and basics like grocery. I was there to visit family and this will be a repeat for me. Loved it.

St. Johns strikes a dynamic balance between Portland and Not-Portland. It is close to the city but feels like a small town. The Colony is 25 minutes from PDX airport and 15 minutes from downtown Portland, a stone’s throw from numerous cafes and bars, supermarket, movie theater and live music venues. Just across the beautiful St. Johns bridge you’ll find Forest Park and Sauvie Island, two of the area’s most famous areas for cycling, hiking and birdwatching.
