average rating of 4.625 based on 40 reviews

Property is small and a bit dark because it's in shade most of the time.

Dinky cottage in North Park which is a really good location. Able to walk to shops, cafes and local park, and very handy for frequent bus services. Also within walking distance to Balbao Park - a must in San Diego.

Rick was prompt and friendly in all correspondence, and provided a couple of items which we requested.

Bed is extremely comfortable.

Cottage could do with a bit of a make-over to lighten and brighten it and bring it up to date.

A delightful little house.

  • 5 of 5

House was clean, comfortable and cozy. Had everything we needed. All the goodies like Wi-Fi, heater, kitchen appliances and TV worked just fine. We spent a lot of time sitting outside on the deck which was probably our favorite thing since we came down from Portland which is cold, wet, and miserable in winter. The location made for an easy walk to Balboa Park and we got quick Lyft rides to Old Town, Mission Beach, and San Diego bay. Thank you Richard!

North park experience

  • 3 of 5

We stayed in a cottage in North Park tucked behind the main house. While everything you need is provided, the place can benefit from a significant upgrade of nearly everything inside. Couch is not comfortable and sags, rugs are dirty and stained, they had not been vacuumed (disturbing when you know how much you pay for clean up). The location, however is very convenient.

This is my fourth stay at this rental. Always a pleasure. The location is quiet, shaded, the bed is comfortable, and the owners very helpful.

Peaceful Retreat

  • 4 of 5

This is a lovely quiet secluded setting in a nice neighborhood. Having been a 30 year resident of San Diego 10 years ago - I have seen the growing pains the city is experiencing.

Rick has created a peaceful private environment for a get away, yet still be close to everything.

The patio is rich in vegetation including a fig tree and birds. Parking was ample. The area was very quiet. A local friendly squirrel stops by for a snack.

I have just a couple of suggestions to make things a little easier for visitors.

I carry a laptop with me everywhere I go for work. There were not enough outlets in the cottage to accommodate all of the peripherals I needed to plug in. A power strip would be a great solution.

Some of the windows do not lock. Living in a remote area, I don't get concerned with these things, but some may.

A cutting board would have come in very as not to cut on the surface of the sink etc. Because there is little counter space anyway, a cutting board would solve both issues.

Many people have left their goodies behind for others to enjoy and use...which is great.

I had the opportunity of peeking inside the front house (also a rental), and it is a charming craftsman style house.

Thank you Rick for hosting us!
