Wonderful as always.

This is my fourth stay at this rental. Always a pleasure. The location is quiet, shaded, the bed is comfortable, and the owners very helpful.

Peaceful Retreat

  • 4 of 5

This is a lovely quiet secluded setting in a nice neighborhood. Having been a 30 year resident of San Diego 10 years ago - I have seen the growing pains the city is experiencing.

Rick has created a peaceful private environment for a get away, yet still be close to everything.

The patio is rich in vegetation including a fig tree and birds. Parking was ample. The area was very quiet. A local friendly squirrel stops by for a snack.

I have just a couple of suggestions to make things a little easier for visitors.

I carry a laptop with me everywhere I go for work. There were not enough outlets in the cottage to accommodate all of the peripherals I needed to plug in. A power strip would be a great solution.

Some of the windows do not lock. Living in a remote area, I don't get concerned with these things, but some may.

A cutting board would have come in very handy...so as not to cut on the surface of the sink etc. Because there is little counter space anyway, a cutting board would solve both issues.

Many people have left their goodies behind for others to enjoy and use...which is great.

I had the opportunity of peeking inside the front house (also a rental), and it is a charming craftsman style house.

Thank you Rick for hosting us!

Privacy, peace and quiet

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is quite small but it was just what I was looking for.. It is private and out of the mainstream of things unless you choose the activity.. The location is great and close or within easy access to the wonderful sites that only San Diego has to offer.

Rick, the owner is very accomodating but he leaves you to your space and privacy unless you need him.

The cottage is a great little getaway place..

A second stay is just as nice

  • 5 of 5

Rick's secret cottage is still as quiet and comfy as the last time we stayed six months ago. It is just the right size for the two of us with all the amenities we need. The neighborhood is convenient to many of San Diego's best sights and if you have a car, parking is so easy compared to a lot of other places. We look forward to another stay in the future.

Pleasant Week in San Diego

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I spent a week in San Diego at the end of March and early April. The cottage was very cozy, and had everything that we needed. It is in a very private location in a quite residential neighborhood, within walking distance of University Avenue, a major intersection. Balboa Park is nearby. Although not a major problem for me, the kitchen did lack counter space. We did prepare food daily, and that extra space would have been helpful. Rick Spear, the owner, is an amiable fellow, and was very responsive to our needs while we were renting the cottage.
