Overview

About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom, Sleeps 6

Ever wonder what it would be like to live in the woods…come stay at The Green House! It is nestled in the middle of 100+ acres of woods. The house has 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, living room, dining area and full kitchen. The house accommodates 6 guests. The woods are great for hiking and exploring…finding antler sheds or morels is always a treat! There is a fire pit for nighttime s'mores or just sitting next to a crackling fire listening to the evening sounds.

The kitchen will be stocked with basic staples to begin your stay, with the option for personal shopping for all of your meal supplies. A Keurig coffee maker and its coffee is provided. The living room has a mounted flat screen television and a wood burning stove. The ‘bird’ room has a queen sized bed. The ‘deer’ room has two twin bunk beds. The ‘fall’ master bedroom has a queen sized bed, armoire, and a couch for exploring a novel or two. All rooms have full-sized closets and dressers. The master bathroom has a custom tiled shower, while the guest bathroom has a bathtub and shower. There is a stackable washer/dryer with all the provided laundry supplies. All linens and towels are also provided.

Around the house is three acres of manicured land to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet of the woods. Bird watching is a great pastime at The Green House. Swarms of humming birds visit through the summer, as well as a whole host of birds that make nests and visit the bird feeder. These birds include: tufted titmouse, wood thrush, cardinal, scarlet tanager, black capped chickadee, grouse, eastern phoebe, nuthatch, blue jay, goldfinch, evening grosbeak, turkey, kestrel, red tail hawk, goshawk, northern flicker, and pileated woodpecker, to name a few. Yard games are a family past time with corn hole, bocce and horse shoes provided.

The Green House is also great for a 'first' family camping experience. There is a fire pit near the house. There is a second camp site further in the woods. These sites allow for a great experience for those who want to camp deep in the woods, and for those who prefer the camping with modern amenities!!

When you decide to venture off the grounds for some area attractions, fill up your coffee cup for a quick trip to Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. The home is approximately an easy 35 minutes to downtown Pittsburgh where all the professional and collegiate sports team venues await. In addition, a wide range of cultural activities, including museums, concerts, and festivals are year round. Previous guests have enjoyed their time at the Fiestaware Factory Outlet, Raccoon Creek State Park, Penguins games, concerts, three area casinos and exploring Pittsburgh. What will your stay entail?

The home has also served as a long term residence for professionals working out of state. The home's location allowed them easy access to Pittsburgh, Ohio, West Virginia, and Pittsburgh International Airport. These guests lived for months in hotels and missed having the ability to cook their own meals, space for their clothes and belongings, and the room to roam about outside the confines of a hotel room. Another common theme our long term guests stressed was their need for privacy. Working 10-16 hours a day, they wanted a place where they could unwind, outside the public eye...they wanted a home away from home.

Whether you stay with us for the solitude and peacefulness of the country, the proximity to Pittsburgh, or both, you will find a comfortable home to meet all your needs.

About David

The Green House family has owned the property for over 20 years. It has been the residence of several family members and it is still enjoyed today as a weekend get away. Historically, this property was a sheep farm, and speak easy which has grown into a wooded wonderland! There are also more pictures of The Green House on Instagram #pagreenhouse.

David purchased this house in 1984

Why David chose Pennsylvania

The property was purchased to be a place to escape traffic, neighbors and the hustle-and-bustle of suburban living. The Green House was love at first sight for the family and it has stayed that way as it has been passed down to younger generations. Everyone who visits the property loves the warmth, peace, and feeling of 'living in the woods' that it provides. If you ever wanted to experience living away from neighbors and having peace and quiet, give it a try! Although the house is situated within 100+ acres of land, there is still civilization within a 15-20 minute drive.

What makes this house unique

The Green House allows one to escape the din of modern life. Distractions are minimized so that families and friends can focus on their time together whether its during a favorite meal or a quiet walk through the woods. Falling asleep at the base of a large oak and awakening to deer and squirrels feeding nearby is a favorite pastime. The property allows campers to camp in the woods (a site is cleared), while other campers to camp inside. Another benefit is the pure serenity of being still and enjoying Nature as it was intended, uninterrupted.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for making your home available to us. I have enjoyed staying in the Green House. It is a beautiful home and property. I hope your future residents enjoy and respect your home as I have. I guess you never know when our paths may cross again, so until then - Thank you and Happy Holidays!

Great vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time getting a vacation rental house and we were not disappointed at all! We were traveling for our son's wedding which was at Raccoon Creek State Park. The park was only about 10 minutes from the home, about 20 minutes from shops and restaurants, and close enough to Pittsburgh for a couple trips to town. Our adult daughters stayed with us and were able to have their own rooms. We were even able to take our dog, which was a huge plus for us! We loved being out in the country. There were lots of birds and some deer that we saw on the property, too. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone wanting to stay near Pittsburgh but out of the busyness of the city.

Best Place Ever!

  • 5 of 5

We have rented homes in various areas in the USA and Europe. This house was, by far, the best experience ever. Not only was the house spotlessly clean, it was decorated in a warm, comfortable way. There was nothing we wanted for because everything, and I mean, everything, was provided. We only needed to buy a few groceries. The house is in a beautiful country setting. There are deer, at least 20 different species of birds, wild turkeys, and other beautiful animals to observe. We all loved that part of our stay. David is wonderful to work with. He was in contact whenever we needed him and made sure we had everything we needed. We didn't get to meet Jen, but are sure she is as great as David. Another nice thing is the house is only a short drive from the Pittsburgh Airport. We are looking forward to staying there again when we return to Pittsburgh. David & Jen could teach other rental owners how to comfortably provide for their renters. That is how perfect everything was. If you want a peaceful, perfect place to stay...this is the place. Thank you David and Jen!

Wonderful woodland retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We were in the area for our oldest son's wedding. The Green House was a fantastic relaxing getaway from the hustle-bustle surrounding the wedding and reception. We loved the well appointed kitchen and relaxing living area. The grounds are like having your own private park to relax in. While there, we saw all kinds of birds(never seen a cardinal before other than on a baseball uniform), several deer, squirrels, and a family of raccoons. We also saw our first fireflies! It was really special to see them rising out of the lawn and flitting through the trees.

The master suite was a perfect private getaway from the kids playing in the other room. Good coffee was a pleasant surprise as we arrived too late to stop by a store first. Everything was clean and in great shape. Thank you so much. We'll be back next time we are in the area.

What a beautiful place!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Green House. The property is idyllic, the house is clean and spacious with all the amenities of home. It was nice to just sit outside and enjoy the sounds of nature. Close enough to Pittsburgh to go in and see what it has to offer. We saw a Pirates (Bucs) game, went on the Duquesne Incline, saw the birds at the National Aviary, walked through the Allegheny Cemetery, and ate at nice restaurants. We even took a bit longer drive to visit Falling Water. Spectacular! Hopefully, we'll return for another stay with our dogs, who loved it also.

Awesome location

  • 5 of 5

My sister and a girlfriend and my son recently rented the Green House. The cabin was very secluded, but it was also centrally located to the activities that we wanted to do. We enjoyed a day of shopping at Ikea and went to Raccoon Creek State Park and to the Meadows Casino. David the owner had the house immaculate for us when we arrived and called us upon our arrival to make sure we had everything we needed. One of the added touches was that David had filled all the birdfeeders for us and we got to do some bird watching. My son has Down's Syndrome and loves birds, so he was especially delighted as well. Since we came in April we didn't get to see any hummingbirds but we did get to see some huge turkeys. This is a rental that literally had everything you could imagine and a caring owner who takes pride in his rental!

Great house!

  • 5 of 5

We recently had the opportunity to stay at the Green House not once but twice. We are originally from the Pittsburgh area and traveled home for Thanksgiving and Christmas to visit family. We wanted a quiet place to stay where we could be comfortable while not imposing on family. The Green House was great! It allowed us the space to feel comfortable and relaxed. David, the owner, was great to work with and he made sure we arrived safely and that we had everything we needed. The house is beautiful and fulfilled all of our needs. We felt lucky to find such a wonderful place to call "home" while visiting our hometown!

The Green House is a 'house in the woods', where you live in the peace and quiet of the woods, though a short drive to anything and everything needed...sports, shopping, eating, and other adventures. You can stay solely on the property and enjoy the birds, quietness, deer, camping and just 'being away'. If you want to venture out, the house is close to Pittsburgh, West Virginia and even Ohio for outings.
