Perfect location, plenty of space, new furniture!
We were a group of nine adults staying in DC for a week. This place is perfectly located, just a short walk to most major sights, and of course close to the metro station if you'd prefer not to walk. The owners have bought new furniture and photos have not been updated to reflect this; we were pleasantly surprised by the new couches/chair in the living room and two of the upstairs rooms having bunk beds instead of single beds. The bedding as well appears to be new. We ended up having more than enough space. The one minor annoyance was its location next to 6th street: the road noise could be quite loud at times, especially in the bedrooms facing the street. Other than that, our stay was wonderful, I would definitely rent this place again.
This place is all about location. Easy to walk to the National Mall, convenient location for using the metro, and 5 minutes from a Safeway grocery store. The pictures shown on line were not exactly what we found to be true in person, but i think that was due to improvements made in the VRBO. some double beds were switched out for double bunk beds, which by the way, were very comfortable. It was clean. We could have used a cookie sheet for baking pizza... but all in all, it was a fine place.
I would stay here again.
good location; poorly maintained
We did not love it but cannot remove that icon. Why is that?
The location is good. The entire space needs a deep cleaning, bathrooms in particular. The kitchen furnishings ae both inadequate and broken. The HVAC cannot be programmed for comfort on both levels. The mattresses need to be replaced. Sofas and chairs are worn out and the sheets and towels are virtually threadbare. We would not recommend, nor would we choose to stay there again
Great place to stay
My family of 6 stayed at this location for a week and really enjoyed ourselves. The house is very spacious and was close to everything. Two blocks away is the subway that takes you anywhere in DC. Plenty of restaurants nearby as well. The house had a great charm and was a joy to stay in.
Great house, but NO PARKING and only sleeps 17
Overall the house is a fine place to stay in DC for a large family or group. It looks like it was gutted and rebuilt not too long ago to make it a large residence with the bedrooms and bathrooms. The bathrooms were custom finished more nicely than those at home; they made use of the space they had well. The kitchen cabinets are high-end, and has all appliances/etc that you need. It was fun to ponder what the original floorplan would have been 50+ years ago when it was likely an office or small shop.
However, note that the following should be updated in the description:
- NO PARKING. There is no parking due to construction next door that is slated to last through end of 2016. You will NOT be able to park a car at the house in 2016; your best bet for parking is to go 2 blocks north and park in the Safeway parking deck for long-term parking.
- SLEEPS 17, not 19: the house only sleeps 17 people. The second pull-out sofa in the living room area was replaced with a 2 person recliner, which is not a bed. So unless you like sleeping in a recliner, you can only sleep 17 people on beds. If you bring over 17 people, they're sleeping in the recliner or on the floor! Luckily we had right at 17 people but if we had more I wouldn't have wanted to be the one to draw the short straw.
Note also that this house near alot of action; just a short walk away to all the excitement of Chinatown and Verizon center area. Its safe, at no time did I feel unsafe walking around, but in general with any area with alot of people just keep your wits about you, and you'll see some strange characters.
Wonderful spacious townhouse in Chinatown!
This is our second time renting this townhouse, the first time we were in the lower 3 bedroom unit. It's a great historic home with lots of character. We were originally a group of 8, but two had to back out at the last minute and with six bedrooms and four bathrooms, six women had a very comfortable stay. We were able to walk to a local grocery store, drug store and restaurants. Jim, the property manager was very accommodating and allowed us to drop off our luggage early while the unit was still being cleaned. We intend to rent again next year, it was perfect for us!
