About the property

2500 sq ft of Durango style located 10 minutes from downtown & the ski resort

This is the absolute best combination of location, views, access to activities, comfort and style.

Our newly remodeled Durango home is a great place to call home base while enjoying all Durango has to offer. The home has an open-air lodge style feel with large windows and a huge wrap around deck that includes a brand new Jacuzzi. The house & deck overlook the Animas Valley to the east where the beautiful James Ranch settles below. The orientation of the home provides outstanding red cliff sunset views. The first floor consists of the bright and airy kitchen, a large living/dining area, a comfortable office/study, a conveniently located powder room, laundry room, and a spacious master suite with full bath including an over-sized bath tub for soaking after a long day of fun. Upstairs is the guest bedroom with a comfortable queen-sized bed and lots of room for storing your clothing & gear. The other bedroom has a bunk bed consisting of a full bed on bottom and twin bed on top, plus another twin bed in here. This room connects to a super-cool bonus room! Watch movies, play video games, or just hang out in this room- perfect for kids & adults. It hosts huge bean bag chairs and a full-sized futon. Just like a cozy cave!

About Tom Moody

We love the year around outdoor activities and ambiance of the Mountains. We prefer a less commercialized atmosphere and enjoy the true old west feel of Durango

Tom Moody purchased this house in 2013

Why Tom Moody chose Southwest

My wife & I have dreamed of a house out West for over ten years. This house is that dream come true.

This is a fantastic home!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed this home so much! It is beautifully decorated with spacious living space and a awesome master bedroom. Our kids love to build fires in the fireplace. The home owner and property manager were great to work with and available for questions. The view is spectacular from the moment the sunrises until the stars come out. The house is perfectly located between town of Durango and Purgatory resort. We got to ski on Black Friday! We did some hiking near town and dinner at Steam Works, highly recommend. The large hot tub in the evenings was a bonus. We would definitely come back to this home again, next time we'll ride the train.

Great place for a family gathering!

  • 5 of 5

If you like the Colorado mountain country, this is a great house and a great location for a stay. Many things to do within a reasonable distance of the property. Easy access to Durango for anything you need. Very nice grocery store and liquor store about 5 miles away. Purgatory Mountain is about 25 miles North with lots of activities for all age levels. Don't miss James Ranch literally across the highway (the views from the deck on the VRBO site are of the James Ranch). Great tour of the James Ranch - a do not miss item if you have youngsters with you. Lots of farm animals, etc. Be sure to eat at there also - great hamburgers with grass fed beef.

The house accommodates three groups well in the three bedrooms. Wonderful open downstairs for cooking, eating and talking. Huge porch. Kitchen is well done - we cooked in most nights.

Our weather was fine in last August but you do have to pull the shades down during the day due to the East facing windows. As noted by others, it could be a little warm in hotter weather but we were fine.

Beautiful Home in Durango

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in Durango was amazing as we stayed in an exceptional and beautiful home. The views in the morning from the large balcony were breathtaking. In the evening, we relaxed in the Jacuzzi, sipping wine and looking up at a sky full of stars. The home was clean, spacious and decorated in a western theme with lots of windows and natural light. It was perfect! The owner of the home was easy to work with and a caretaker was available in Durango, if needed. We left Durango with many special memories and look forward to returning. We highly recommend this property and sincerely thank the owner for sharing his lovely home! Sincerely, Jim and Allison McLain, Deep River, Connecticut

Lovely, open main floor and great deck. Overall a nice little house.

All of us enjoyed our stay although the bonus room (with out a window egress) isn't really a bedroom and became very warm by evening. The fans helped, but a window fan would have really pulled in that excellent cool evening air. It wasn't humid, though, so I found I didn't have much problem getting to sleep. The Queen and Master bedrooms are great. The hot tub was a hit and we got to do a lot: hiking, D&S rail, kayaking, shopping, and finding our favorite micro brewery (Steamworks...oh how I miss it. Animas Brewery was also good.) Oh, and if you don't have a map app on your phone or one of those direction things in your car just know Lockes Mt. Rd. is really, really hard to spot. (It's the first left after mile marker 33 if you're heading north on 550. I think...) Nice views and I would stay again if visiting Durango. (But I get the master bedroom next time.)
