A beautiful view of Gasquet Mountain from the front yard and a freshwater pond complete with hidden springs make this home an ideal retreat to get away from it all.
An east coast transplant, Northern California has been my home for the last 30 years. I play in Gasquet when I have the time. I am a pond enthusiast, dog owner and lover of sunshine. I work in nearby Humboldt County in nursing and was a medical social worker for years.
Amy Owen purchased this cottage in 2003
Gasquet is comparable to none for it's pristine natural setting. The home is full of natural light, mountain views, and clean.
There are natural springs winding through the property, forest for miles behind the house, and a pond on this property. Settled nicely into the mountainside, completely private, room to roam. The property is unique and in keeping with the "wild rivers" theme of the Northcoast.
We spent two nights at this place in December 2013. Among different places I have rented on AirBnB and others, this was one of the best. The house was packed with every possible thing you might need, from clean towels and shampoo to cooking supplies. We especially enjoyed the fireplace. The owners were very attentive. Amy called me to make sure we have been able to check in smoothly, and she followed up several times on AirBnB to make sure we had not faced any issues. There was a very helpful written description of local sight seeings, which helped us greatly. The Internet was fast. Overall this was a great experience.
Good property with fully equipped with all the necessary items for day to day living, with one exception during our stay we tried every night to start fireplace and every time house got filled with smoke.
Very nice, only 20 minutes from the beach, but right in the middle of the Redwood forest. It gave us the best of both worlds.
Thank you for the lovely vacation spot! My family truly relaxed, played music, games, enjoyed home-cooked meals, and overall had a fantastic time at your wonderful home. Easy to find, clean, the owner was fair and easy to work with, and the house well-appointed but not stuffy. If you want a home base from which to explore the lovely Smith River area with a family, this is a great place.
The house is really comfortable with a great view. The hidden springs are neat and peaceful! It was a great place come back to after long days spent hiking, swimming, and sight-seeing. What a wonderful trip we had!
The beds were comfortable, the showers nice, and the kitchen was well equipped. Even had a griddle!
We had a great experience on our trip to NW California. The proximity of the home was perfect for our plans to reach the outdoors. The house was very clean and well stocked with everything you need or might have forgot. Thanks for sharing you home!
What an awesome experience. The proximity of this home is ideal for sight seeing and adventure seekers of any kind. Being able to come back to a very comfortable, very clean, and very stocked home is such a relief after a long day of taking in the beauty and serenity of Northwest California. There is a really neat little trail behind the house that takes you to a nice little creek - It was perfect to begin our adventure and end our stay with a short hike on this trail. The owner responded within minutes of an inquiry - even on Christmas. We appreciated the hospitality and would highly recommend the Hidden Springs!
This home is located in the heart of the Six Rivers National Recreation Area. The Smith River is reported to be one of the cleanest rivers in the world. It is the last in-dammed river in California. It's crystal clear waters are heaven for swimmers in the summer months. Fishermen can catch trout and salmon, and hikers will be amazed by river views and pristine rural forests. This was gold rush country 100 years ago and many of the original trails have been preserved in national forests and state parks, which boast the worlds tallest Redwood trees. Truly an awe inspiring place for relaxation, peaceful family retreats, and nature based adventures. Surf the gentle waves of the north coast, hike in the redwoods, swim in one of the worlds cleanest rivers, or just soak up some Gasquet sun.
