About Amy Owen
An east coast transplant, Northern California has been my home for the last 30 years. I play in Gasquet when I have the time. I am a pond enthusiast, dog owner and lover of sunshine. I work in nearby Humboldt County in nursing and was a medical social worker for years.
Amy Owen purchased this Cottage in 2003
Why Amy Owen chose Gasquet
Gasquet is comparable to none for it's pristine natural setting. The home is full of natural light, mountain views, and clean.
What makes this Cottage unique
There are natural springs winding through the property, forest for miles behind the house, and a pond on this property. Settled nicely into the mountainside, completely private, room to roam. The property is unique and in keeping with the "wild rivers" theme of the Northcoast.

A great place to stay!
This house was truly a home away from home. Very comfortable and roomy. It offered everything my family of seven needed to enjoy our vacation. From homey comforts (WIFI, TV, games, toys, bedding) to beauty and trails to explore it had everything. Only 25 minutes to beaches and redwoods, it was convenient to day trips. We are planning on making this a yearly trip.
Beautiful secluded property
Nice, comfortable house with plenty of room. Has the fastest, most reliable internet of the last four properties we've rented. Beautiful drive to Crescent City through the red woods.
The house was not cleansed properly, dirty dishes in the dishwasher that had been there for days. Smelly trash left in the can outside the door. And a very distinct skunk smell coming from under the house. Beds where very uncomfortable
I worked with Linda to change her reservation dates, as she requested a change a few days before check in so that she could attend her granddaughters performance. During this time I was dealing with coordinating several obligations (the start of my daughters kindergarten, the beginning of another hectic graduate school semester and a family crisis to boot). We gladly accommodated her shift in dates, but I forgot to let the housekeeper know. This was the first time this had happened in four years of managing this home. I spoke with Linda on the phone, apologized, and the housekeeper came and took the trash and cleaned the house for her, I believe on the same day that we were notified. Thanks for your review, Linda.
Very Good location if someone wants to Getaway from urban hustle and just enjoy the nature and rest.
Good property with fully equipped with all the necessary items for day to day living, with one exception during our stay we tried every night to start fireplace and every time house got filled with smoke.
The fireplace has been serviced and this issue has been fixed since this review.
Our stay was very comfortable, and pleasant. Very nice, we would highly recommend.
Very nice, only 20 minutes from the beach, but right in the middle of the Redwood forest. It gave us the best of both worlds.
Bright, clean, comfortable home-away-from-home
Thank you for the lovely vacation spot! My family truly relaxed, played music, games, enjoyed home-cooked meals, and overall had a fantastic time at your wonderful home. Easy to find, clean, the owner was fair and easy to work with, and the house well-appointed but not stuffy. If you want a home base from which to explore the lovely Smith River area with a family, this is a great place.
This home is located in the heart of the Six Rivers National Recreation Area. The Smith River is reported to be one of the cleanest rivers in the world. It is the last in-dammed river in California. It's crystal clear waters are heaven for swimmers in the summer months. Fishermen can catch trout and salmon, and hikers will be amazed by river views and pristine rural forests. This was gold rush country 100 years ago and many of the original trails have been preserved in national forests and state parks, which boast the worlds tallest Redwood trees. Truly an awe inspiring place for relaxation, peaceful family retreats, and nature based adventures. Surf the gentle waves of the north coast, hike in the redwoods, swim in one of the worlds cleanest rivers, or just soak up some Gasquet sun.
