Come, enjoy, relax, rejuvenate, Cedar Key is THE place to do just that. Now we can offer you waterfront access with our community shared dock. While we can't give you fishing tips, we recommend you learn the tides, as Cedar Key is VERY tide dependent ...but as an old salt reminded us once, 'you haven't been fishing until you've been stranded'.
Cedar Key is where we have been looking to spend our time, we want to retire here, enjoy the sea breezes, the fishing, the small town atmosphere. We like older architecture, this home was built 1920 and was the home of a local fisherman/preacher. He raised his family here, we want to enjoy the same life.
This house is situated downtown, close enough to walk anywhere, but just far enough away for privacy. Perched on one of Cedar Key's highest points, we catch any breezes, yet we are only 1/2 block to Goose Cove and the specatular sunsets afforded by the direct west exposure.
My family including 3 teens and a six year old stayed at Petes. My husband can't wait to get back there in August. He loves fishing and this house was very private with everything we needed. Loved the famous clamp chowder and buying fresh seafood in town to cook on this getaway. The property manager was kind enough to meet us late on Friday night and gave us a tour of the house.
Thank you, Jennie! We planned a last minute trip with limited time to spend. Our little adventure was awesome, thanks to you!
The house was very homey and well maintained. Our two Yorkies loved the front porch and the beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was nice, though we only used it for drinks and snacks, as we ate out every meal, and the food was great! Loved Tony's Frites and Gravy! Holy Moley's breakfast was delicious! Kona Joe's Island Cafe has the best chicken salad! Yes, we tried them all! Our boat tour with Mike and his lovely wife was very informative and the bottle nosed dolphins put on a show for us during the return trip from Seahorse Key. Touring the streets on foot and with our dear friend's golf cart was very relaxing and allowed us to enjoy the local scenery at a leisurely pace. We hope to return with more time to spend and enjoy this great little town and its gracious hosts. You all made us feel like part of the family.
We stayed for 4 nights and the house was quaint and comfortable. The house is older, but I can see that the management is making improvements. The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped. For serious cooks, I recommend bringing your own kitchen knife, possibly a frying pan as well. Everything worked properly. The washer and dryer look new--Thank you! The location is nice, maybe too close to the street for my liking but because it was so quiet, it didn't make a lot of difference most of the time. The bedroom's doorway (next to the kitchen) is very tight because the bed is blocking it. It was more of an annoyance than anything. The dining table needs some work so it is levelled when you open it up.
A couple of issues that came up. One is the queen bed. It caves in the middle--it's an issue only if you have to share the bed with a heavier person like I did. My husband says he slept fine so there you go! :). Second is the shower....the bathroom floor tilts a bit, so for someone like me who is already imbalanced, I felt I was going to fall onto the shower curtain. Of course I didn't. It is a bit tight in there though.
For an older house, it is well-maintained, and Jennie was readily available. I recommend this place for a group of friends and families with children. The town itself is a bit sleepy, which was ideal for us. The market makes a great pizza! Lots of appreciation for the management for bountiful supplies of papers, towels and sheets. We always book with VRBO when we travel, and this is one of the best maintained rentals we've been in. Thank you Jennie!
Just steps away from wonderful sunsets at the dock or viewed right from the from porch.
This well kept and comfortable cottage is ready to be home as you unwind and settle into the slow pace of island life. It's an easy walk to Dock St and downtown for some wonderful dining options.
Will definitely consider a return to Pete's Retreat when I need to recharge.
We found this little gem last minute when the condo next door canceled our 2 day stay because of the holiday weekend and a 3 day rule. Jennie decided to let us have the 2 night rental and I'm glad she did. We had a great time there we rented a kayak and was deliver to the house and we put in right next to house. The house is very close to everthing and easy to walk to town. It was nice to have a few spices ther to cook the fish we caught. The front porch swing was very relaxing. The beds were super comfortable and the wifi was nice to have. The house is an older home with some small imperfections but the charm and quaintness made it a great stay. Thanks again
Attended the annual Seafood Art Festival with 3 girls and a guy. The guy enjoyed the 4 days there fishing on the pier, which was only a short walk from the house. He caught a yellow fish which we had one night for dinner...delicious. The girls spent 2 days wandering through town and the multitude of booths selling jewelry and crafts. Town is about 6 blocks from the house, a pleasant walk along the shore if the weather is cool. The home is very old and seemed last updated some time in the 70s. If you are not concerned with spending your time in a resort like house, then Pete's Retreat would probably work for you. The kitchen was clean and bright. With exception of ants (that ruined our food left on the counter), we enjoyed the kitchen. It was perfect for preparing meals..plenty of space, all necessary utensils, pots and pans provided. The furnishings and decor are, well...eclectic? Mixed and not very matched, the rooms have a thrift store feel, yet VERY comfortable, and would accommodate a large family easily. The beds were very comfortable, bathroom very large but shower very small. The neighborhood was very quiet even with the festival going on. We thoroughly enjoyed the screened in front porch with swing seat facing the water. Made for lovely mornings drinking coffee, and relaxing evenings drinking our wine and cosmos. The night skies are amazing...clear views of stars when out on the pier--we were even able to see a view shooting stars! Sunsets and sunrises from the pier also amazing.
At the end of our time there we all agreed we had an awesome time and would stay at Pete's again. For the price, there was nothing we could really complain about (except the ants).
In the downtown area of our picturesque village, this home makes your vacation stress free and car free. 1/2 block to city pocket park, watch the sunsets every evening. Step back in time in our fisherman's cottage, with clean air, pristine waters, wildlife viewing-we are in the middle of Cedar Key Wildlife Refuge-13 islands ranging in size from 1 to 120 acres, totaling 762 acres.
When you tire of the natural beauty-does one ever?-We are only 8 blocks to downtown restaurants, lounges and shops
