70th Birthday Celebration!

  • 4 of 5

Perfect house for 8 women celebrating their 70th birthdays. Plenty of room and house has everything you could need. The kitchen is extremely well stocked and there are several seating areas for chatting in the living room, family room and outside deck. Outside deck was the favorite, under the tree and view of the gorgeous property and lake. Good working kitchen and was nice and open to other rooms. There are two bedrooms on first floor with two baths and two bedrooms upstairs with one shared bath. The fifth bedroom is outside and under the house with it's own bath. The owners Marty and Louise are warm and welcoming and made sure that all was available to us to enjoy for the 3 day weekend. Grill, firepit and wood, pool, chairs and rafts, badmitton, volley ball, boats on lake, on and on. They stay in an apartment on the back of the house but it wasn't a problem with our privacy. I definitely would enjoy enjoying another stay here at this lovely and charming country house. Thank you Louise and Marty!

Gem in the Berkshires

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here during mid September. It was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable experiences. The house is beautiful and so are the grounds. We went kayaking on the lake, which was serene and vast. We also enjoyed using the peddle boat that the house provided. There is so much to do in the area, Bash Bish Falls, Stockbridge, hiking, swimming in the pool, the list is endless. we felt little need to use Internet as we were on vacation and getting away from technology was our goal, but the times we used it at the house, there was never a problem. The house is clean and well stocked with everything needed when renting a house. We plan to go back in the Spring.

Great vacation

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for a fabulous vacation place stop your search. You've found it. We had a family reunion here last summer and we intend to do it again in 2017. The interior of the house is comfortable with enough space to separate kids from adults or to just sit and read a book. We used the screened in porch, the back deck, the deck down at the lake and the fire pit, spent our days at the lake on boats and floated on lounges in the pool. Not one problem with the house or facilities. It was a wonderful vacation and we left with our batteries recharged.

Nice upstate weekend

  • 4 of 5

Our group of 11 adults stayed on the property this past weekend (9/9-9/11). Pool and grounds are beautiful in a nice, secluded location. Martin and Louise are very welcoming hosts and available on site at the property to attend to any issues or questions you may have. Kitchen and outdoor deck were great for the meals that we cooked, and there is ample seating in all areas of the property to hang out. We took advantage of the in-ground pool, boat dock with paddle boats and kayaks, and screened-in porch, as well as the small fire pit at night. We had a great time and basically stayed on the property the entire time. The grocery stores, etc. that we went to were a bit of a drive away, so just make sure to plan ahead so that you have everything you need so you can take full advantage of all of the amenities the property has to offer!

Kind owners, however, items we wish we knew before we rented.

  • 2 of 5

Marty and his wife were responsive and easy to communicate with before and during our stay at their home, they even allowed us to change the dates to accommodate other families travel plans.

We were a big family of adults and kids that was meeting in Ancram from other parts of New England and New York.

Here are a few things we wished we had known so we could have made an informed decision about our stay. There is little to no cell coverage and spotty wifi, so if planning on working remotely, or needing to be in contact with others is essential it is difficult in this area of the Berkshires.

Since we were a big group we needed all the sleeping space, however, we found the one bedroom in the basement was leaking condensation onto the pillows at night and the room was very very musty smelling. We did not use that bedroom or bathroom all week therefore we all had to sleep in the main house on airmattresses and futons.

This is Marty and Louise's home that they are sharing with us, and we found the amount of their personal belongings difficult to not worry about while the kids played. The house was picked up but not 'hotel cleaned', for example: we found an old sippy cup under one of the beds.

The lakefront was pretty much unusable due to the older structures and amount of lilly pads by the shore. Our kids enjoyed the pool each day. However, this too was 'well loved' with a rip in the liner. Lots of chairs and places to sit throughout the property.

Owner's Response: Sorry about the sippy cup. The tear in the corner of the pool that had a patch over it happened this summer. We would have had to empty the pool in order to fix it and since we had guests scheduled that was impossible. The pool company put on a temporary fix. The Internet unfortunately is not as good as it would be in the city where there aren't as many mountains and trees. Verizon doesn't work well here. ATT&T is better. We did give you a land line phone to use. We weren't aware of the problem in the downstairs bedroom. You're the first one to complain about it and it has been used since you left. We try to please our guests wherever possible

Absolutely beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

This place is a dream come true for a family vacation. If you have children, even more so. The owners are the nicest, most wonderful people. They are very interested in giving their renters a great time. Martin was always on top of everything making sure we were most comfortable. And the activities! Almost like a resort! There are bikes we used. kayak, peddle boat volley ball and more. Even when the children made a mess they didn't mind. We had an absolute amazing time!
