About Diane Delafield

We moved to the mountains of Madison County in Mars Hill 30 years ago and was drawn to this land and river in 1993. The cottage is on the land where we live, we call it One Heart. Inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds it, we added many unique features to this cottage such as window seat in the living room, pine paneled den with wall of windows on the river and cathedral ceilings in the bedrooms. Our intention was to create a space of comfort, beauty and solace. It's our hope that those who come here will experience the same rejuvenating effect that renews our heart and Spirit daily.

What makes this cottage unique

This land is quiet and peaceful and the sound of the river provides a scenic and harmonic background. It is a natural healing environment and provides an ideal setting for people who appreciate natural beauty or a setting to inspire creativity. This cottage attracts artists and writers and couples and families who want an exceptional setting to enjoy one another, relax and get away from it all.

Lovely house and setting

  • 5 of 5

Diane could not have been nicer. The drought in the area takes away from the beauty of nature, but we can't control that. Everything about the house is 5 star.

My husband & I celebrated our 40th Anniversary at ONE HEART and it was a wonderful week!! First of all, the setting was so beautiful & relaxing.

Secondly, Diane was such a great host and we couldn't have been happier. The cottage itself is so cute and quaint and the three decks overlooking

the river were amazing!! We had a week we will never forget and will definitely return to this lovely little cottage on the river!!

Gorgeous river view, peaceful and serene

  • 5 of 5

I must start with the fact that the owner is wonderful to deal with and very helpful during our stay. There was a welcome basket of cheese, crackers and chocolates waiting for us on arrival. Best of all was tiered decks above the river. The view is beautiful and you are surrounded by nature in this relaxing setting. The location is also excellent, being only about 15 minutes to downtown Asheville, but feeling like you're well away from everything. I'd highly recommend this cabin and plan to stay here again.

Peace and tranquility.

  • 5 of 5

Last year when I was planning our vacation I fell in love with the pictures of One Heart. This was the fifth time I used HomeAway. This was by far our best experience.

If you are looking for a place to get away from it all this is the place.

You can't even call this a house. I really felt from the time I entered that this was our home for 5 weeks. It was the perfect place to get away from it all. We had family members join us a different times during our stay. Everyone loved this place.

The location was ideal. We were minutes away from the town of Mars Hills. We found a couple of restaurants in this town that we loved. Nicks a small Italian place with great service and food and The Stack House with fantastic burgers and beer.

The other added advantage was being only 20 minutes from Asheville. Love this city. We made 4 trips in for the day. So much to see. I recommend taking the trolley ride to get familiar with the city. Best meal was Curate a tapas restaurant in downtown. We made two visits it was so good.

Can't say enough about our stay. Peaceful hours sitting and listening the the river. Watching the majestic blue heron that visits each day. Yes we loved it all.

Best part was Diane. We feel we have made a new friend. Everyone in our family enjoyed meeting her and visiting with her. the perfect hostess. It was so nice actually meeting the person who made the perfect holiday possible.

Owner's Response: Thank you for all you expressed about your 5-week stay at One Heart. I enjoyed your time here and meeting your family and friends. It gives me joy to know the cottage was such an ideal home base for everyone. It has been in my family for more than 22 years and has always been a place of serenity and fun for our family and friends. Now it feels good to share it with people like you who appreciate it so much. I too feel as if I've made new friends. Thank you for caring for One Heart so beautifully. I look forward to seeing you on the river again!

Peace and Rejuvenation

  • 5 of 5

My mother and I had a wonderful 6 nights at "One Heart" cottage. It felt like home from the moment we walked in the door. The views and all the places to sit and relax were the highlight for us. Listening to the river, watching the fireflies light up, good conversation over a glass of wine is now a beautiful memory, I will not soon forget. A lovely hummingbird flew right by one evening! Diane had many wonderful books in the home to enjoy. Several times we read on the daybed overlooking the river. Most of our meals were enjoyed outside on one of the decks. We enjoyed the peace and serenity One Heart had to offer. We felt safe and comfortable. Upon leaving we were completely rejuvenated. Thank you Diane for creating such a magical place. It was exactly what we needed and more!
