About the property

Breathtaking view over the sea with housekeeper/cooky, boat and sailorman

The 16.000 m² land is localized at the seashore of Araujo Island. The house is surrounded by original rainforest and faces the beautiful “Baía da Ilha Grande” (Great Island Bay) with its breathtaking views, the sunrise and the moonrise. Whoever appreciates the nature, silence, beauty and contemplation is right for this house.

In 64m² there are two double bedrooms (one can be rearranged to a two-bed single room); one living room with dinner table integrated to the kitchen; one bathroom; and a terrace where people can enjoy the ocean and garden. The house water is drinkable and comes from the island rising water.

There is a support boat (for 4 people) to transport people between the island and continent. Bigger boats can anchor on a 40 meters away from the deck float.

The rent includes the services of a housekeeper-cooky who can arrange to get seafood from the local fishermen. A sailor man will be available for any needs referring to the boat.

Salvador Moreira, one of the most beautiful beaches around, is only 100m away from the house and can be reached through a pleasant walk within the rainforest. Another possible tour is to walk around the island to see beaches, animals and rainforest vegetation, having the possibility to stop by a couple of bars and restaurants.

The Araújo island is 5 minutes away from the continent (Praia Grande) and 20 minutes away from Paraty (by boat). It is the second biggest Island of the bay and it is 95% covered by the rainforest. At the southern side there is a community of approximately 480 people, most of them are fishermen.

Paraty is a colonial city surrounded by the sea, rivers and mountains. The 17th century Portuguese architecture is still preserved in the historical center, where churches, local handicraft and nice restaurants can be visited. Paraty hosts a literary fair every July, the FLIP (Paraty’s International Literary Fair) is Paraty’s most important cultural event.

Other attractions:

February – Carnamar

May – Festa do Divino (Divine’s Party)

June – Festival do Camarão (Shrimp festival) and Procissão de barcos da Festa de São Pedro (Saint Peter’s festival ‘s boat procession) at Araújo Island

July – FLIP- Paraty International Literary Festival

August – Festival da Cachaça e da Gastronomia (Gastronomy and cachaça’s festival)

September – Paraty em Foco (Paraty in focus)

I'm an architect and I love art and nature. The house on Araujo Island is for me and my family the hideaway from the busy life of São Paulo where we live.

Bela Gebara purchased this cottage in 1983

Why Bela Gebara chose Brazil

This is the place where we switch off. It is one of the most beautiful places we have ever visited, even though we have traveled to many beautiful places around the world.

What makes this cottage unique

A unique view, warm and calm swiming sea, original rain-forest, peace and tranquility all together.

We had a wonderful time in your house. Just wonderful.

The location is amazing. The house is really welcoming, easy, simple and beautiful.

The garden is very nice. The terrasse is just a luxe..

and what about the view..

Palm Trees, birds, turtles…

So quite…

The little beach is perfect. The peer, a good playground ( we jumped a lot)...

Claudia and victor are very helpful, discreet and kind with the children, they really adapt there service to us.

Claudia's cooking delicieus!

It's easy to get in town with the boat.

We had a great time with the kids. Out of the world.

Thank you so much bela for your hosting.

REMOTE ISLAND FEEL WITH PRIVATE BOAT TAXI AT YOUR DISPOSLE

  • 5 of 5

This house gave us an exotic, tropical and isolated but included easy access to the surrounding areas to explore. This is cute cottage style house with an amazing view of the bay. We arrived at the house using a rock as the boat dock. The dock itself is lovely. We spent most sunsets there and loved watching the sea turtles surfacing. We fished off the dock and caught numerous small fish. The yard is tiered from the dock up to the house with several sitting areas and gardens. There is a private beach a short 5-minute walk from the house, a beach bar about a 15-minute walk from the house and the fishing village is 20 minutes from the house. Most mornings we were visited by a family of marmosets. We also had a regular flock of parakeet’s in the surrounding trees every morning and every evening along with hummingbirds and other colorful birds. As a guest of the house, we were able to park within the gated marina. Going to and from the house to the marina was a short boat ride and we were free to explore. Our favorites were old town Paraty, Trinidade Piscina, Picinguaba and the Waterfall/Cachaca tour. The service was great! Bela, fluent in English, was our contact and was very responsive prior to our trip, assisting us in planning and then checking in on us during our stay. Claudia came by daily to clean the house. She even washed our cloths. We had her cook 3 meals for us. They were all fantastic. The octopus was my favorite. We had her shop for us twice during our stay. Victor was our boat captain who took us daily to Paraty and to the marina. He also took us fishing where we were able to also see some of the neighboring islands. This service was incredibly important to us and made our stay a great one! We do not speak Portuguese but learned a few words prior to our arrival and were able to communicate. At the house, there is electricity and the water is drinkable. The kitchen has all that you need to cook meals. A drip cup is provided for making coffee. A cooled ice storage is provided and you can make as much ice as you like. The shower included hot water. The windows are screened and fans are provided. The cool breeze and fans made it comfortable to sleep at night. Beach chairs were also provided, which we used frequently. If you want to get away from the masses, get back to the basics but be free to explore your surroundings, this is your place. Thank you Bela, Victor and Claudia for a memorable vacation!

Extraordinary Oasis

  • 5 of 5

This is a very special house in an extraordinary place. The panoramic view of the bay dotted with islands is breathtaking, much more impressive than the pictures can possibly convey. We spent ten days relaxing here, enjoying the beautiful, calm beach just down the path from the house and Claudia’s delicious food. The house is perfectly laid out for a small family and very comfortable, with many great spots to read or simply stare out at the water, and it is situated in a lush and beautifully landscaped spot. Claudia and Victor are both lovely and very helpful, and my two-year old son fell in love with both of them. We do not speak any Portuguese but we managed to communicate with them both about the essentials with the help of a phrase book as well as the dictionary that is at the house. Bela, the owner, writes fluently in English, and was incredibly helpful and gracious about arranging our stay. The house that she and her family have created is really an oasis, and it is wonderful that there is no internet access there, as a vacation without screens is a true vacation! We did happen to arrive right at the beginning of the shrimp season, and the fishing boats were out all night and day, and their motors are surprisingly loud. After the first night, we closed the shutters and turned on a fan for some white noise, which was fine since it was fairly cool. We’d love to return some time if we are ever back in Brazil, and I think we would probably try to come before or after shrimp season. The sunrises are beautiful, and we were also treated to spectacular moonrises. This was one of the best vacations we have ever taken—we recommend it highly! The island and the house are both gems.

Un merveilleux hâvre de paix

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Our stay on Bela's house at Araújo Island was magical. It is a wonderful place! I can't imagine how it could be better: we appreciate the sunrise with its dreamlike colors, dolphins and turtles visited us, several birds species were there every day, and the tropical forest is amazing. The help of Victor and Bidica let it all more special. Both of them were always very friendly and helpful. Bidica is an extraordinary cook, each day a good surprise, a better meal then the other.

The house (architect's!) is wonderful, everything works perfectly well, and the decor is very beautiful. You can see that each detail was planned and done in order to ensure comfort, but with simplicity, preserving the original feature of fisherman's house, with a very typical Brazilian architecture and integrated into the environmental.

We appreciate the opportunity and look forward to returning soon.
