Great cabin!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was spacious with great common spaces in front of a fireplace so we could all spend time together. The jacuzzi on the deck was especially relaxing! Great cabin for a family vacation.

Family Fun Cabin

  • 5 of 5

The McAlister Cabin was everything and more. My family loved all the amenities that this beautiful cabin provided for us. Very close to Bear Mountain, Snow Summit and The Village. We had some serious Wii competition going on between the girls vs guys in our family. The hot tub was a nice touch after a long day of snowboarding & skiing. We look forward to visiting the McAlister cabin again.

The Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Sitting by the window sipping hot chocolate, I watched the snow perform its swirling dance around the majestic evergreens that dotted the property. Many of the large, lacy flakes floated to the ground, while others were caught by the outstretched limbs of the mighty trees, adding to the soft, white fluffy quilts that were beginning to cover the thorny needles. The muffled sound of my grandchildren laughing and playing in the loft above brought a smile. It doesn’t get better than this, I thought, and then someone stoked the fire and the sound of crackling wood reached my ears. Pure bliss.

The snow had picked up. The ground was now covered. Had I had come all the way from New England just to see more snow? Yes, I thought, as my California-bred grandchildren pulled on their snow suits, anxious to play outside. I watched as they trudged to the top of the small hill where they each waited to sled down the track my son had prepared for them. The joy on their faces as they rode down their miniature mountain was all I needed.

I fell in love with Big Bear at this house. It was my first trip to the San Bernardino Mountains and after leaving Connecticut at 7:00 am on my flight to San Diego with my 90 year old mom, and a three and a half hour drive that culminated in a long, curvy trek up the mountainside in the dark, I thought I was ready for sleep. Instead, I became invigorated as soon as I entered the house. One of the reviewers of the property had mentioned the pictures didn’t do the place justice. They were right.

The house was perfect for our group of eight. Plenty of space for the kids and with two full baths, there was never a line. The loft allowed the children to have a space of their own, while letting the adults hear what was going on at all times. The décor was modern rustic, perfectly fitting the mood of the area, while providing all the amenities one would want including Wi-Fi, a Jacuzzi, and two large-screen televisions. (Several college football games were watched during this vacation to the dismay of some and the delight of others.) The house was clean and inviting, and at times, we could imagine we were nestled in the woods miles from civilization, though shopping, restaurants, and skiing were only minutes away.

My mother told me, as we were getting ready to leave on the last day, that she would come back to Big Bear, but only if we stayed at the same house. Martha Stewart herself couldn’t have provided better testimony. Trust me.

This cabin was amazing. It was all redone and very clean. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. It was very spacious as well. We enjoyed the sunny front deck as well as the Jacuzzi in the back. It was close to everything too.
