Casa Molendera is a hacienda style home located one hour north of Puerto Vallarta’s International Airport. Nestled in the hills overlooking the Pacific, in the state of Nayarit, the home is fifteen minutes north of Sayulita and a 5-minute drive to beautiful Lo de Marcos beaches, local shopping, and restaurants. The spacious three-bedroom, three bath home, located in the gated community of Rancho Escondido, a 12-acre retreat, offers the perfect combination of rustic Mexican style and modern comfort.
Named for Diego Rivera’s painting, La Molendera, (The Corn Grinder) which is rendered in Mexican Talavera tile above the professional stove in the kitchen, the home is an oasis of beauty and serenity. It features a spacious cooking area, 11-foot Talavera-tiled island and tiled sink, additional stainless steel vegetable sink with purified water, a microwave, and stainless steel refrigerator with purified water and ice. A large dining room, pergola patio, skylights, and washer-dryer in the laundry area add functionality to complement the design.
Eight-paneled glass doors open from the spacious living area onto the west-facing patio, offering an expansive view of the ocean, while equally spectacular mountain views surround the house. Each room offers terra cotta floor tiles and is furnished with artisanal woodwork and Mexican folk art, from the hand carved headboards in the bedrooms, to the woven huipil pillows and accents throughout the house, each offers a combination of comfort and character.
Talavera tiled baths, outdoor and indoor showers, handcrafted copper sinks, indoor fountain, and in-ground swimming pool complement the rustic style of the house, while a 46” TV and entertainment center, WiFi connection, outdoor mini bar and built-in gas barbecue offer comfort and access within easy reach.
The location of the gated property provides unparalleled vistas, proximity to an authentic Mexican village, and the beautiful experience of nature as it is meant to be, in an area rich in agricultural resources, mango, lime trees, and swaying palms. It is the perfect place to unplug and unwind. For a taste of uncommon luxury on the road less traveled, Casa Molendera is everything you are seeking in a vacation home.
Living in Mexico and New York has offered us a balance of life experience that can't be beat. I have the opportunity to do wood working and play music and Nancy can write and create art. Traveling throughout Mexico has been our pleasure for the past 25 years and we continue to enjoy the best of our two worlds.

After many visits to Mexico, we fell in love with this area and decided to build our home here. Beautiful weather, friendly villagers, ocean breezes and serenity are a given, while proximity to a wide range of activities, including water sports, fishing, a variety of beaches, plus local markets and festivals complement the tranquility of the home's hillside location.
We were fortunate to find a local builder with an amazing sense of the traditional Mexican Hacienda style. We worked hand in hand to create a home with warmth and visual appeal. Our 3 bedroom hacienda home is uniquely decorated with local folk art and hand crafted furnishings, terracotta floors, and custom Talavera tiles throughout. A vaulted entryway leads to the spacious living room, which opens up to an expansive view of the pool area, garden, and ocean beyond.
The pictures do not even do this amazing home justice! The house is spectacular and the views even better. So much attention to detail in the home, including all the beautiful tile work, well appointed kitchen, fabulous bathrooms and amazing décor. The home is about 55 minutes away from Puerta Vallarta but it is an easy drive. Then the house is about 5 minutes off the main road, up a hill to the spectacular view. It is just about a 5 minute drive to the adorable town of Lo De Marcos, which had plenty of great restaurants and shops. Or it is about 15 minutes to the bigger town of San Pancho, which had a great vibe and a bit more going on. We enjoyed the beach in Lo De Marcos and went surfing, boogey boarding, stand up paddle boarding, playing in the waves. We plan to return!
We got everything that was advertised. Beautiful panoramic views of the jungle and ocean. The accommodations were incredible, including the outdoor shower in our master bedroom. There was a lot of thought and attention to detail in the home that had us remarking on different features the whole week we were there. If you have an opportunity, go!
Over all this was a great place to stay. The views were beautiful. The home was lovely.
There were a few things that needed some attention. We stayed in the smaller bedroom off the pool. The water pressure in our shower was low and just dripped and the water never got hot even after I let it run for a longer time. The pressure was great in the other bathrooms. The washing machine did not run very well and there was something sticky in the dryer. I cleaned it all out. It would be nice to have some bug zappers. One night we did not get the glass doors closed before it got dark and the Mosquitos ate us alive. There was also underwear hanging in the trees outside the master bedroom bathroom. The pool's pump screen had a bolt that was rusted out or was just missing so the bottom screen would move so that the plumbing pipes were exposed. The sat. tv picture was grainy not H.D. we did not have good wifi. The owners hooked up temporary wifi for us but it had limited range of about 10-15 feet The roads to the property had a lot of mud holes and the roads were in poor condition which is not the owners fault. The locals were wonderful. The beaches were beautiful. We had a great time and a week full of good memories.
Water sports, whale watching in season, turtle hatchery, local estuaries, bird watching, rich agricultural center, including mango and lime trees, plus unparalleled vistas.
