Amazing Location, Beautiful Views, Awesome Caretakers!!
We spent 8 awesome days at this beautiful home outside of Honokaa, HI. The property is off the beaten track, but neither difficult to find nor access. The home offered everything we needed for our stay. The views are unparalleled and the outside shower is not to be missed!! :) Our caretakers Noah and Brittany, checked in with us the first afternoon to make sure we had everything we needed. They brought with them various local fruits and offered their time should we want a tour of Waipio Valley or to learn how to make Hawaiian lau laus. We took them up on it all!! During our time there, we went into Waipio Valley twice (experienced 4WD driver required!!), including kayaking up the river for closer views of the Hiilawe waterfall, made lau laus (chicken, pumpkin and sweet potato wrapped in taro leaves and ti leaves). We also ate fresh fiddlehead fern with spam, as well as avocados, mangos and lilikoi. We would not have had these experiences without Noah and Brittany's time and extra efforts.
We had a wonderful time at the house at Waipio Valley and plan to return as soon as possible!
Waipio Valley View
This property sits on the very edge of Waipio Valley and has the most spectacular view of any place in Hawaii! The 4 bedroom house with it's beautiful balcony was perfect for our group of seven. The kitchen was fully equipped and stocked with basics so we were able to easily cook well balanced meals! If you want to go down to the beach you have to be able to handle a strenuous hike back up or you must have a four wheel drive vehicle.
This house made all the different for my first Hawaii vacation. I wanted the full tropical experience and here you get exactly that. I don't know where to begin. Maybe I can start with the beautiful night sky there, and the sounds of the frogs singing you to sleep. Or the sounds of rumbling waves. Or the smells. OH GOD THE SMELLS. The air is filled with smells of tropical flowers, herbs and just nature! And the outdoor shower was nothing I'd expect. I had no intention whatsoever of getting my naked booty outside in that shower. But I tired it, and it was not only invigorating but therapeutic! It's actually pretty private. You can easily keep yourself from being spotted by your fellow guests. Showering in the cool mornings with steamy hot water, and the singing birds, while under the palm trees...absolute paradise. I CANNOT BRAG ENOUGH on the groundskeeper Noah and his wife Brittany. They took us on our own private tour of the valley. It was the BEST part of our trip. they do ask for payment, but it's very much worth it. They asked us for $200-$250 for the tour, but we paid them $300. It was more than worth it, especially since there were 7 of us. They went above and beyond making sure we were safe (you MUST have a 4x4 vehicle to navigate up and down the valley, which we did rent one through Hertz) they brought snacks, took us to trails less traveled, taught us about the local culture, and about the many many many fruits and nuts that grow in the valley. They even made us home made lao laos for our trip home. DELICIOUS. Noah and Brittany made this trip have that extra level up of an island vacation. If you don't have a 4x4 vehicle, they have 2, and they can drive you down and back up to the valley. House has lots of fans and 3 window units. Keeps the home pretty decently cooled. the grounds of this place are heaven. You are surrounded by trees, pineapple bushes, avocado trees (yes we picked one and ate it) lime trees, chili pepper bush, banana tree, mango tree and huge colorful flowers. This house has so much space. Since there isn't much close around the area to eat, we used the kitchen alot for cooking. If you do want to eat, Grandmas Kitchen is delicious and has very hearty portions. It's only about a 15 minute drive. Just know, plan to drive about an hour to an hour and a half to Kona and/ or Hilo. Just plan it out to where you don't do a lot of back and forth. The driving is easy and the scenery is worth it. BOOK IT!
Incredible view, well equipped house!
This place is unbelievable! Where else can you get a view like that in a house that sleeps so many for that price? Already thinking about coming back!
The house was the perfect place for us. The view was incredible and the outdoor shower was awesome! You feel privileged when you pass the lookout point and see all the people, knowing that is your view! The maintenance guy brought us fresh mangos and pumpkin. I definitely recommend staying here!
Our family of 7 had a wonderful stay. The views of Waipi'o Valley are staggeringly beautiful. We walked down to the beach daily and did other excursions in the area. The road down to (and up from) the valley is steep so bring a 4x4 if you don't want the extra exercise. The house is well appointed and had everything we needed. Hope we are able to return again someday.
You can find some additional info about the area at waipio.net. An intro video shows how easy it is to get to the house.
There are two different horseback groups in the valley and both go through streams and are more relaxed and free with your use of the horses. A favorite of my girls.
There are boogie boards and surfboards if you want to try the waves, an intermediate wave beach, but favorite of locals.
Local guided tours of the valley can be arranged. Multiple trails so be sure and bring your hiking shoes, water shoes.
