About Rita Olschewski

We bought this home 8 years ago and loved the quiet location. There is a stream near by for trout fishing and we built a tree fort. As they got older they wanted to be on a lake, so we built another house on Lake Toxaway where we spend our summer and fall. We still go up to the cabin for hiking and mushroom picking.

Rita Olschewski purchased this house in 2005

Why Rita Olschewski chose Smoky Mountains

This home has fantastic views through huge windows. Even though we are in the woods, there is lots of sun on the porches and lawn. The property is surrounded by woods and National Forest.

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with the quiet serenity of this home. The water fall trails nearby are awesome and Tony's free guided hikes every other Friday make it accessable to every one.

Guestbook comments from the owner

It was an excellent stay. Thank you. It was a phenominal time even though my motorcycle could not handle the driveway. My family enjoyed it very much.

Spacious, clean and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This home has fabulous mountain views and is very well equipped. The fire pit was our favorite place to hang out and the screened in porch was a great place for our sunset cocktails.

Truly beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

You really can't beat the views and trails on this property. We are a family of 5 (my husband and I, and 3 kids - 17, 12, and 8), and we brought out dog with us. The kids loved the tree house, ping pong table, and outdoor sports. Our dog loved exploring the trails with us. Rita has thought of everything, and basics were stocked so I didn't need to worry about running to the grocery store the first day. I really appreciated that. The house was so clean and well stocked with extra towels, blankets, sheets, etc. I loved the outside porch with the tin roof. We hiked almost every day, and this was the perfect place to come home and relax with all the amenities! Rita, thank you so much for helping us create memories with our kids this year.

Great time. Wonderful property

  • 5 of 5

It had everything we needed for a great time away from it all. The only thing we couldn't find was the iron to go with the ironing board but that might have just been an oversight on our behalf. Will definitely consider coming back here again.

Great place. Great location.

  • 4 of 5

Picturesque, comfortable, quiet (save the soothing chirping of the cicadas), which made sleeping even more enjoyable during our late summer stay with the windows open.

Everything you need for a mountain getaway. The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that the Direct TV package did not include ESPN. I know many who don't need TV when vacationing and I seldom do either (except during football season) so I was slightly disappointed that I missed my Gamecocks Saturday night.

I would highly recommend Rita's Hideaway, and (aside from the ESPN issue, oh and maybe some new paddles for the ping pong table), I wish I could have stayed longer.

Will definitely stay there again.

Perfect Getaway for birthday Surprise

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect location for my husband's surprise 70th birthday. Our kids came from New Jersey, Kansas City, and central North Carolina. The house is gorgeous with the warm all wood interior, soaring ceilings and large windows. Views were great to watch weather change from sun to rain, to fog, and clear at night for moon and star gazing. The house is extremely well equipped, both kitchen-wise and beds/baths and specific instructions/labels made everything easy. The drive up is an adventure but well worth it. Our gang went zip lining at The Gorge in Saluda which was awesome. Plenty to do in the area, or just sit back and relax in quiet peace. Definitely recommend.
