About Mary Davey

I built the cabin (house) for my parents starting in 1968, added the two story addition in 1974. When my parents passed away in the late 90's, my two brothers and I purchased the house from the estate. In 2010, I remodeled replacing the deck, all new outside siding, double pane windows textured and painted the interior and added internet.

Mary Davey purchased this cabin in 1963

Why Mary Davey chose Gold Country & High Sierra

My father first visited this area in the 30's and we started vacationing here in the early 60's. My mother purchased the property during a bridge game and I started construction in 1968.

What makes this cabin unique

Set back from the road with plenty of parking, quiet mountain setting and comfortable beds. Small steam runs through the property and it is a short walk to the town. The cabin is within walking distance of the Yuba River and the Pacific Crest Trail. The Lakes Basin Area is a 6 mile drive. Downieville is 12 miles South on Highway 49 .

I wish I could stay forever

  • 5 of 5

My favorite place to run away to. It's homey, peaceful, and amazing. The patio offers a perfect place for a morning coffee and a perfect spot for an evening glass of wine. Close to beautiful scenic spots and relaxing lakes. I couldn't ask for a better place to forget about the craziness of every day life.

Great, moderately priced getaway

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely time. This was a very relaxed rental cabin that worked perfectly as a springboard up to great hiking, lake, and river access. We'll do it again.

Relaxing and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

Truly enjoyed this very quiet cabin with comfortable beds and a gorgeous deck overlooking the mountains. We enjoyed bbqing, cooking in the well stocked kitchen and a nice fire pit at the end of the evening. Convenient location with a short walk to town and a very accommodating owner who guided us to dinner and hike recommendations. There is Internet access and cable for those that can't unplug as well. We will definitely rent this cabin again.

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We booked this lovely rustic cabin for our girls weekend and it couldn't have been better! Beautiful, peaceful location nestled in the trees with a gorgeous view from the deck. Very comfortable beds, nice flat screen tv, open floor plan so we could chat from the kitchen to the living room, all the kitchen amenities, a short walk to town... this place rocks! We plan to return yearly!!

Nice spot in the woods in Sierra City

  • 4 of 5

This is a quiet, private, well-lived-in place in the woods on the edge of town. A bit dark in the kitchen with minimal counter space but we did fine with our cooking and especially enjoyed eating on the spacious back deck that has a fabulous view across the north end of town to the hills beyond. Wished there was a screen door with the slider to allow us to keep that door open. Very comfortable living room with recliners and overhead fan for the hot weather. Also liked sitting on the front deck under the trees. The Gone Fishing house was a great place to come home to after a day hiking and swimming in the Lake Basin. Enjoyed the walk to the saloon in town for drinks and hanging with the locals.
