Enjoy a true Palm Springs classic vacation in a classic MidCentury designed by Hugh M. Kaptur, AIA for the Ranch Construction Company. Hugh Kaptur, honored with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Fame and many tributes during Modernism Week 2014, built many iconic buildings in Palm Springs including Steve McQueen and William Holden's home. Mr. Kaptur's homes are much-celebrated for their classic, timeless design, open and bright floor plans, and seamless indoor / outdoor living. Nothing exemplifies the Palm Springs life style like an authentic midcentury home.
This home is featured in the documentary, 'Quiet Elegance. The architecture of Hugh M. Kaptur'. Over 2200 square feet, Mid Century Home in Desert Park Estates! A top to bottom, inside and out restoration of this 1961 beauty was completed on January 22nd 2013. Great care was taken to ensure that this home retained it's midcentury modern charm and integrity, while adding all of the state of the art amenities that will make your next vacation the best one yet! Even the color scheme is accurate to 1961.
Step back in time to 1961! Enjoy cocktails in vintage glasses, while lounging in a mid century chair. Eat dinner on a Danish Modern dining table, with a 1960's table cloth, on Mid Century plates. Even the Magazines on the coffee table are from 1961!

Let's start in the back yard! This home sits on over 1/2 acre. There are views from every room of the house. The back yard has a brand new, modern pool and spa, gas barbecue, olive trees, over 2400 square feet of grass area, 2 cactus gardens and a sand volley ball court!..really! The view of San Jacinto is nothing short of amazing.
Now let's go inside... as you walk through the original front door you will see that the main living area is completely open to the back yard via the original sliding doors and windows. Sweeping views of the back yard and brand a new pool and spa greet you, and beckons you outside. In the main living area you will find a breakfast area, cocktail lounge with an incredible Kyle Bunting area rug. The dining room seats 8. The additional lounge area is where you'll find a mid century recliner and a 42 inch flat screen TV, with surround sound.
Let's talk about the bedrooms...The master bedroom is decorated in cream, grey and green. The green paint on the walls is called 'martini olive'! What a coincidence! It has an ensuite bathroom with double sinks and direct access to the patio through the sliding door. Down the hall are 2 additional bedrooms; one in Orange and one in Aqua. High thread count sheets, down comforters and pillows are here for your enjoyment.
Now, on to the Kitchen...your kitchen has brand new, stainless appliances and a custom designed mosaic tile wall that is almost beyond description! It has new CaesarStone countertops and the hardware on the new cabinets is original to the house. A bar separates the kitchen from the living/dining area. Down the hall there's a washer and dryer should you need it.
But wait.. there's more! Just off the living room, with it's own entrance, is the brand new Casita with it's own sitting area, backyard access, and ensuite bathroom.
The best of everything is what you'll find in this Midcentury Modern Beauty! Top to bottom, floor to ceiling and everything in between is new and waiting for you!

We are a husband and wife team who live in Southern California. We have two adult children, both boys. One is in the Air Force and the other attends college. We are Southern California natives and enjoy boating on the Colorado River.
Lisa Harding purchased this house in 2012
We are huge fans of MidCentury modern architechture. So when we had a rare opportunity to buy this home and return it to it's original glory, we jumped at it. We have two adult boys, and two dogs. We take great pride on delivering the best vacation experience for our guests. So, we made extra effort to ensure that the original charm of the home was restored yet still upgraded the home with all modern conveniences and finishes.
This home gives you the feeling of stepping back in time to 1961. The best part about this home is the openness to the back yard. Mid century architecture was all about bringing the outdoors in. The back wall of the living and dining room is all glass. Outdoor dining and lounging under the original covered patio is a great experience. We know you will love this home as much as we do!
We had an amazing time. We booked very last minute and everything was perfect. When we arrived our family loved the house, everything is beautiful and felt very luxurious! This will definitely be a repeat for our family in future vacations to Palm Springs.
We are a family of 5 and thoroughly enjoyed having plenty of room to spread out in this wonderful home. The furnishings were period-perfect and high quality. The pool, hot tub and volley ball courts were great for coming together and relaxing...not to mention the wonderful view of Mt. San Jacinto and the trams (very cool at night)! Downtown was a short drive away so we could easily access restaurants, shopping and grocery stores. Highly recommend.
We had a great time spending NYE at this beautiful vacation rental. The house is full of authentic mid-century furniture and decor without feeling like you are staying in a museum. The rooms were clean, modern and the beds were super comfortable. The two issues we had were that the although the hot tub heated up very quickly, the pool didn't really heat up enough to use during our visit ( we even left it on for over 6 hours as instructed and it did not get warm enough). We did come during December, and it was pretty cold outside, but we had hoped that the pool would heat up enough to use despite the cool weather. The other issue, might have been something only we experienced. The house seems to be located in a bit of a wind tunnel. I have stayed in Palm Spring before and never experienced wind like this. It was also interesting that when we left the house and went into downtown PS it wasn't windy at all. This might have been due to the time of year we visited, but it made using the beautiful backyard a little uncomfortable. That said, all in all we loved the house and found it to be a great value for a Palm Springs getaway. We would definitely return!
Very clean, beautiful backyard, very nice home for families with kids or not. Had a great time!
Our experience at Lisa's place was nothing but extraordinary! From the moment we walked in, before we settled in we started talking about planning another getaway to come here. Everything in this house is amazing. We were here for a family weekend getaway :)
Starting with the mid-century architecture, all of the details, furniture and backyard make this an incredible experience. The rooms are very large and comfortable and the beds are a treat!
The house is extremely well equipped with anything you may need during your stay. A very well equipped kitchen, that made all of our cooking and grilling absolutely great and easy.
The outdoor areas and pool are very enjoyable and made the whole weekend experience 10 times better. We got to stay in the casita, and it was incredible. I suggest you pick this room :)
Our experience with Lisa was even better! She made the communication so easy, and seamless and was there to answer any questions we had. She really is a sweetheart and cares about her guests. Thanks for everything
We definitely recommend staying here, and can't wait to be back soon!
The house was very specious, clean and very cute decoration. There were so many toys to play in the pool which we could not decide which one to choose. There was a cooler and barbequ next to the pool plus a table which made partying easy for us. Everyone was so happy with the house. We will definitely go back.
Everything about this home is perfect and exceeded my expectations. The home is very clean and welcoming, which makes a perfect weekend getaway. The kitchen is equipped with lots of cooking utensils and dishware, so if you are planning on cooking meals this will not be a problem. Rooms were spacious and the bed is comfortable. Three of the rooms are inside the home and the Casita outside is pretty much another master bedroom with a bathroom. The only thing i want to mention is that the Casita smells a bit funky at first, but i got use to the smell afterwards. Overall the decor is very attractive and the HUGE backyard was great for lounging around. This home is definitely on one of my favorite list. Thank you Lisa, for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home for the weekend.
Palm Springs, Ca. The only place in the world where streets are named after movie stars! Regardless of the season you select to visit Palm Springs, there are always many, many things to do. Of course there are golf courses and shopping, but there is also, the McCallum Theatre and the Palm Springs theatre; home of the famous Follies! There are plenty of outdoor activities too; rock climbing, trails to the famous Palms, the Ariel Tram to the top of Mt. San Jacinto. In January, the Palm Springs Film Festival happens. In February there's Modernism week. There's the flea market at the College of the Desert that's held every Saturday and Sunday, year 'round. There's always something great going on in the Coachella Valley.
