Away From the Crowds

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was just what we were looking for. There was just the right amount of space for us (2), it was away for the crowds yet everything was easy to get to. We used the local bus system to explore the towns and rented a car for a day to explore the moral rural areas of the island. Our hosts were very nice and helpful but not bothersome. We enjoyed our stay.

Clean and comfortable

  • 4 of 5

The property was in a good location, pretty central to the towns, as it is in between Edgartown and Oak Bluffs. It is not very far to the beaches either and there is a bike path right across the street. Chris let us put our bikes in the shed which was nice. It was very quiet and set back, so no traffic noises. It was very clean and perfect for our stay! The only suggestion, I would say, that it would have been nice to have a tv in the downstairs. I am not much of a tv person, but my husband and daughter are, and it would have been nice to not have to watch tv in the bedroom all together. The hosts, Chris and Janice were very helpful and very nice. I would definitely recommend this property to my friends and family

Excellent time, excellent owners, excellent place for a getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We scheduled a 5 day stay on Martha's Vineyard for our anniversary. Chris and Janice Baer's 1 bed room place was the perfect fit. Although the house is not on the ocean, it is actually in the perfect spot on the island to be able to get away from the crowds or easily see all of Martha's Vineyard. The main bus route goes right by end of the driveway and multiple stops are within easy walking distance. Most of the bus drivers were personal and we were able to talk many of them into dropping us off at Gamba road right next to the Baers' driveway.

Chris and Janice were fantastic hosts. We asked questions before the trip about the up coming Wine and Food Festival that was happening during the dates of our stay and Janice came right back with responses and recommendations. Once we got to the island, they offered up there assistance anytime we needed anything, including checking in with us via text about how things were going and whether we needed anything. However, the information sheets, island books, recommendations, and bus route information they provided did everything we needed. The best part...the Baers' ability to control the weather. It looked like hurricane Mathew might come up the coast and hit the island as a tropical storm on the dates we planned to be there. Janice had that changed to 5 days of perfect sunny weather. Can't beat that service.

The house has a nice size living/sitting room, dining area (if needed), and a small functional kitchenette if you want to cook meals at home. There is a gas oven, full refrigerator, and Kerrig coffee maker (my favorite tool). The upstairs is a wonderful, large bedroom with vaulted ceilings. Cleanliness....absolutely! Excellent for a couple's get away....absolutely! Great location on the island if you want to get away from the crowds or, see all of MV...absolutely!

We'll be back some day.

Owner's Response: Dear John and Stephanie, We are so happy you had a good time on the Vineyard and that you enjoyed our cottage! Thank you for your review and your kind words. As for the weather we try our hardest to make sure our guests are comfortable :) We were glad Hurricane Mathew turned and the weather was cooperative. We would love to have you both stay with us in the future if you find yourself on the island. Best, Janice and Chris

Great cottage, terrific owners

  • 5 of 5

Would give this more than 5 stars if I could. The property was clean, conveniently located, and absolutely perfect for a couple. Janice and Chris were kind and incredibly thoughtful, checking in throughout our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. The cottage's location is in the middle of the island; if it's your first time visiting, I'd recommend renting a car to get to the various points of interest. We'd recommend this property to any friend looking for a great vacation rental. We had a blast, and look forward to visiting the cottage again.

Super Cottage!

We loved the location of the cottage - close to bus line and right in between Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. Safe area and owners were friendly and warm. They left us with loads of ideas of things to explore on the island. Would highly recommend!

Property as advertised, welcoming renters

  • 5 of 5

The property was as advertised. Clean. Convenient location for trips to Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. A key bonus for us - the beach chairs and towels given that we were coming from out of state.

The Baers were very welcoming. Mostly interacted with Janice, who provided friendly reminders and logistics for our upcoming visit to the property. Once on site, we were given recommendations and travel guides. No unexpected intrusions during our visit. Helpful renters.

My family and I enjoyed our stay at the cottage. We would recommend the property to others.
