The property was perfect for what we were looking for.

  • 5 of 5

Since it rained most of the weekend, house was large enough to hang out inside. One thing I would ask is to have pool cues ready to go on hand as the ones at the house were broken. If we would have known these were broken, could have brought our own.

Nice location, needs updates

  • 3 of 5

The lodge is in a great location. Close to the beach, stores, golf and more. Kitchen, dining and living room areas were nice to accommodate a large group. The house needs some updates such as new furniture (beat up pretty bad), all mattresses need replaced as well. We couldn't use the deck as there was a sign on the door that said it was unsafe, so that was disappointing.

Great house, some surprises

  • 3 of 5

Definitely a great house in a nice place. Little far away from the lake if your plan is to spend your days on the water.

The deck was canceled for use. A surprise since I think was the selling point to watch the lake view.

Rest of the amenities very nice. Worth the price.

Had a blast!

  • 5 of 5

Chad and this cabin were amazing! The only hiccup was that the people before us destroyed the grill that was there. Chad went above and beyond to make sure we had a grill when we arrived. Would have loved to enjoy the deck but understand that it is being rebuilt. Other than that everything was perfect I would definitely stay here again. Bachelor party for the history books

Our Christmas weekend

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous time at the lodge. It was very spacious and ideal for our family Christmas. The beds were very comfortable and the view from the family room was great overlooking the lake.

Great property for large groups!

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was in a great location (close to the lake, town, shops, grocery stores, restaurants, etc) and was a perfect size for our family of 14. The game room and great rooms were great for gathering, lounging and taking in all the avtivities. Everyone had great fun with the pool table, Golden Tee game and the bonfire pit out back.

It came furnished with everything we would have needed (bedding, towels, dishes, silverware, laundry). The owners were very responsive through out the entire process answering questions before arrival and assisting during our stay. They even assisted with ordering the UFC pay per view event for us making for some happy campers in the cabin!

Minor updates could be made but nothing that would have ruined our vacation (grill not functioning, real curtains in the bedrooms/bathrooms, sporadic internet, light bulbs burnt out, loose handles). We enjoyed our stay and thank Chad and Michelle for their hospitality.

Big Pelican Lake Information – The Minnesota Fishing Vacation Destination

Pelican Lake is one of Minnesota’s premier fishing lakes but in order to bring in your limit, you’re going to have to spend time learning the ropes and reefs. The bottom, fine for fish habitat, challenges the angler with an erratic mix of deep drops, sand bars, sunken islands and changeable weedlines. Your best bet is to hire a guide the first time out or watch other anglers to see where they congregate and record the spots for your own reference. Additionally, a depth finder and temperature gauge is almost a must. If you put it on the south end, find out where the line is at the ridge of the flats that extends immediately out into Jones Bay. That’s a good spot to begin. Pelican heats up later than many of the surrounding lakes so you won’t get much early action in the weed beds. Even when the water warms, this is a windy lake so it’s going to be a challenge to follow the weed lines. But that’s where you need to be. You may encounter two weed breaks, one at 10 to 15 feet and another at 20 to 25 feet. Either break is a good line to hunt. For early Bass, try the northeast bays  Mousseau and Nelson – fishing the edge of the reeds with plastics and crankbaits. In summer, go deep and find the cabbage weeds along the bars and points. Jig minnows and leeches at 30 feet or even deeper. For Northerns, follow much the same pattern as for Bass. Troll or drift the cabbage beds at 20 feet with sucker minnows and/or spinners. For Walleyes, bait a Lindy rig with a shiner or fathead and drift the southern side of Halverson Bay north of the rock line or go far south and trace the two holes off Lincoln’s Point and then cast the weedlines along the southern shore. A big challenge here is the clarity of the water. To avoid spooking the fish, some recommend electric motors, drifting, casting exclusively or waiting for nightfall for Walleyes. One strong advisory, check a good navigation map before setting out onto Pelican. Note the locations where rock formations are just below the surface. Preparation will make you visit to Pelican both safe and rewarding.
