Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom, 2.5 Bath, Maximum guest party of 4

No pet fees! Central Air Conditioning! You want to get away from it all? Look no further for the right property to visit! The Dog House is a dog-friendly 2 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom home with a large wrap-around deck and a fenced in yard (4' chain link). You will see and enjoy the views from the deck - beautiful trees and ridges to see and the sky is usually amazing as well. Our guests comment over and over how private our house is.

We use natural cleaners in the home. We try and provide cruelty-free, vegan products when we can for shampoo, conditioner and body wash.

You'll have wifi, satellite tv, comfortable furniture, and plenty of space! Free wifi

We are in Whispering Pines just 1/2 mile from the East Verde River if you want to go and play in the cool water. Otherwise, there are plenty of hiking trails around and the national forest right out our back yard! You won't see your neighbors, except the wildlife.

The house has a large great room complete with comfy furniture, and windows galore! The room is overlooked by the loft, which we've set up to use as a reading nook or game room. We've assembled a fairly good collection of board games to enjoy on a rainy afternoon or cold winter's night.

The kitchen is complete with all appliances, including coffee maker, microwave and dishwasher. We've stocked some basic spices as well as coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.

Wildlife sightings so far: bobcat, elk, white tail deer, raccoons, coyotes, rabbit. We've seen bear prints, but no bear yet!

We are licensed by and pay taxes to the State of Arizona for this business. We also donate 5% of our gross income to a local animal shelter.

Please note: there are three steps from the living room to the rest of the house, and five steps from the back yard or front yard to the deck/front door. This may be difficult for senior pets or pets with walking problems. We added a ramp from the master bedroom to the back porch to provide older pets an alternative to stairs. Fireplace in living room is decorative only.

About Dena Pierre

After vacationing with our dogs in several VRBO homes over the last 11 years, we decided it was time to purchase our own vacation home! We searched for over a year for the perfect vacation setting in Payson, Arizona. We live in Scottsdale and love to travel to the Payson area and up into rim country. We moved to Arizona from Ohio (with a couple of stops in Florida and Oregon as well!) and although we miss Ohio State University, we enjoy the state of Arizona and all it has to offer. The diversity is amazing. We have been using VRBO as guests for the last 5 years, so we like to think we know a thing or two about what our guests might want. That's why it was such a hard search for this home. We are huge pet lovers - Tom is a pet photographer in fact. We never travel if we can't take our pets, so that's why our focus on dog-friendly accommodations.

Dena Pierre purchased this house in 2013

Why Dena Pierre chose Payson

This property is private and has a beautiful deck you can sit and enjoy the cool breezes and wildlife from! And with this home you don't have to rough it - it has all the amenities as you would expect, so you'll be comfortable enough to relax. This is no 'little cabin'. You will not be roughing it here.

What makes this house unique

This lot is as near perfect as we could get! It backs to the Tonto National Forest and the other sides of the home are well protected from the trees and space so you can forget there are other people living nearby!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We always enjoy your home! It's super private and quiet and always so clean. Love being able to bring our dogs with us while we relax in the pines.

So relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a few nights in mid November with our 8 month old baby and also 3 year old Goldendoodle. The house is immaculate and has everything that you need as if you were at home. We were able to cook all of our meals there and just relax for the long weekend! The patio is so nice and has a great view. We saw a few elk as well as Bluebirds and Cardinals! The yard is perfect as it is fenced in so our dog could roam as she wanted. The drive home to Queen Creek was less than 2 hours, so it's a great getaway from the valley. We definitely plan to come back in the near future! Thanks for sharing your home with us.

Post Stay Experience

  • 1 of 5

House itself is everything other reviews say however after contacting owner about a potential lost item, owner made a big issue about "extra guest" - we had to bring along our daughter in an emergency situation, not thinking this would be an issue as house is large. Surveillance cameras at property are in use - just be prepared for this. Left a very bad after-taste and ruined the visit. The use of cameras was more disconcerting than the withholding of the security deposit.

Owner's Response: The listing states 4 person max (due to our onsite wastewater treatment process) for our 2 bedroom home, and the contract lists that more than 4 guests will cause a loss of deposit. The first page of the contract states there are security cameras in use. We were up front about everything as you made the reservation. As your situation changed, contact should have been made and we could have rescheduled your stay or cancelled and refunded it.

another great stay at the payson dog house

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at the dog house and another relaxing getaway. The owners are friendly and responsive. The house is clean and inviting, for humans and our four legged children! Well equipped, just need to bring food, kitchen has evrything you need. Comfy beds for both humans and dogs. Nice fenced in yard for the pups and great views. Another great, relaxing stay, sure we'll be back again.
