We met when we were 13 years old and were both in Civil Air Patrol. We are now married with 2 teenage boys and live nearby in Burnt Hills, NY. Jake is in the military, and Shannon works for a healthcare company. We both do various volunteer work...Jake has been assistant coach on several of our sons' sports teams, and I've served as Team Mom and PTA President in our sons' schools. Jake is an avid motorcyclist and member of the Combat Veteran's Motorcycle Association, Ch 19-1. I'm an amateur photographer and love to read and write while sitting riverside.
Jake & Shannon Lansley purchased this house in 2013
Jake grew up in the Albany area but visited Lake Luzerne frequently because his family had a camp on this same stretch of river. Some of his best childhood memories are from his trips to 'camp'. Not only did we want a nice vacation home to go to, but we also wanted to continue that tradition with our family. When we decided to look for a 'camp', we knew we had to have 2 things; Amazing views and riverfront access. This house has both of those things and a lot more. It has the most beautiful views, is directly on the river and is close to all of the attractions that the region has to offer.
Camp is so unique because there are no rules other than: do what you like, be safe and have fun. If we want to spend time in the water we simply walk down the dock and get into our kayak or boat or go swimming. If we're not in the mood for that, we can sit on the dock and fish, we can sit in the Adirondack chairs and have an ice cold beer while looking out onto the river listening to music. And if we've had enough of the river we can take a short drive to Lake George, Glens Falls, or Saratoga, and take in a horse race, do a little gambling, or do some holiday shopping at the outlets. On those occasions when we feel like doing nothing, that's exactly what we do. Even on a rainy day we can sit in our living room overlooking the river and read, or watch a movie while the kids hang out in the 'play area' opposite the living room playing board games. The view is beautiful rain or shine, summer or winter. We love ending lazy days at camp by sitting on our 3 person swing, looking out at the water and the sunset and enjoying each other. Once the sun goes down, we watch the sky and point out shooting stars.
This was the worst misrepresentation of a vacation rental we have ever experienced. No wonder they talk about everything but the "peaceful waterfront home" in the description. It is anything but peaceful with cars whizzing by 5 feet from the front of the house, a very tippy dock, world's smallest bathroom, and a very small outdoor area. I would not recommend this house to anyone with small children or pets since they would not be able to take their eyes off them for a minute. The back yard by the water is so small 10 people would have to sit in a straight line to fit. My husband took a walk through the grass in the sitting area and came back with bug bites covering his legs. We think it was fire ants.
We thought it was so bad and depressing we did not stay. I had to scour the area for a hotel that would take our dog and had availability. I immediately let the owner know and his response was "so sorry hope you enjoy your vacation"!! What customer service!
Overall, I feel fortunate that we were able to find a nice hotel to cover the days of our stay and that I did not have to stay there! What was to be a nice getaway would have been a disaster.
A "rustic waterfront camp" would be a more fitting description of this vacation rental but not a "peaceful waterfront home".
This place had the best view of the Hudson River that was worth the 3 hr. drive. I came with 5 other adults and we all had a relaxing stay. It was in a small town but there were a couple restaurants to eat out and a couple small grocery stores to get supplies. We were able to swim and kayak off the dock, have coffee looking out at the calm water and find something for the whole family to do that was within a 30 minute drive. We also brought our small dog. The property owners had the house stocked with wood for the firepit, sheets for the beds, AC for the whole house, cable TV for down time, a roomy kitchen for everyone to help out with cooking and a wonderful swing. They were very attentive if we had any problems.
There are only 2 things to consider; the house is very close to the road, children and pets must be watched. And the upper bedrooms are not roomy enough for adults to stand up, only crawling. Despite this, two adults in my group did sleep up there.
Beautiful views. The cabin is warm and homey. Very relaxing. A few minutes from Corinth and Lake George. If you're looking for a laid back vacation this is the spot! Added bonus were the kayaks.... We used them everyday.
I have been coming to Lake George for years and decided to stay a bit off the beaten path last year. This is the perfect place to get away, yet is a short drive to LG village if you need more touristy activities. The house is cozy and right on the water - the pictures don't quite capture the incredible view. It's really nice that the owners include kayaks to use - this can often come at an additional price other places.
The house was clean and cozy, the kids love being up in the loft. Lots to do without leaving - we barbecued, swam, boated, sat by the fire, and there were plenty of board games to occupy the kids. The beach at Lake Luzerne is a short drive away and was quiet and pretty empty each time we went.
If you are looking to visit the LG area and don't want to pay to stay lakeside on LG, this is an great and well priced alternative - still on the water and close to all the fun. I am excited to come back this summer!
We had an amazing time! The view was incredible and the distance to our other family members who were also vacationing in the area was perfect. The kids loved the loft area!
Everything was just perfect. Beautiful scenery, very accommodating host.Good fishing, lots of things to do like hiking, canoeing, swimming, biking or just sitting in the chair with a glass of wine taking in the picturesque sites of mountains and Hudson.
