As you enter The Troon House you feel the atmosphere of casual elegance. This Craftsman-style, up North home is located on the first green of the Cedar River Golf course at Shanty Creek. You will have spectacular views of the green and a deck to relax and enjoy the experience.
The home features five beautiful bedrooms, 4.5 baths and can comfortably sleep up to 16. As you enter the large foyer, you will notice the accommodating kitchen to the right. It offers a double oven and glasstop electric range with oven and side-by side refrigerator. The cozy breakfast nook provides the perfect spot for a lazy morning enjoying breakfast or reading the paper. The bar area in the kitchen easily provides the perfect gathering spot for entertaining. A large dining table which graciously seats six has a beautiful view of the two story stone fireplace.
The main floor living room has gorgeous views of the Cedar River Golf Course and provides ample seating for company as well as corner chairs and a sitting area for those quiet times. The main floor bedroom offers a comfortable king bed with a Jacuzzi in the bath. A twin size rollaway is located in the bathroom closet. The upper bedroom offers a king bed, a twin size rollaway in the closet, and private bath with Jacuzzi. The loft bedroom to the left of the foyer is definitely a ‘bonus’. It offers a queen bed, plus a trundle with two twins, an additional twin bed, and a private bath.
The lower level is a home onto itself. This family room has a TV, stone fireplace, and a patio door which exits out to the golf course. There is also a fire pit for those chilly cozy nights up north.
The full kitchen with bar in the lower level offers just a little bit of extra luxury for that late night snack or cozy dinner. There are two separate sleeping areas in the lower level: one bedroom with a queen bed and one bedroom with bunk beds consisting of a double lower and upper twin. There is also a guest bath with a relaxing sauna in the lower level.
The lower level also has a game room with Air Hockey and Foosball tables. The laundry/mud room as you enter from the two-car garage offers a washer and a dryer.
The house is beautiful but the best part is its location-which was picked over twenty years ago. Located in Cedar River Village, at Shanty Creek, you have access to numerous golf course, ski hills, spas, and walking/hiking trails. The Chain of Lakes featuring Torch Lake is just minutes away. Downtown Bellaire within three miles offers a vast selection of restaurants, and dining options.

Beautiful Home in a great location
This house worked perfectly for our family/friend President's Weekend Ski Trip. There was plenty of room for everyone. The kids loved having their own space in the basement. The layout of the house is perfect for a group trip. Couldn't really get any closer to the Cedar River Village Lodge. Would definitely stay here again!
We are glad that you enjoyed your stay. We hope that you will stay again.
Great house for our extended family vacation
The Troon House in Cedar River Village was a great vacation home for our family! We had three families - 6 adults, 6 kids and some dogs. Great location, nice amenities and plenty of room. We met the owner by chance upon arrival and he was very helpful to help us start our stay with suggestions.
Cedar River Village community is the newest of the Shanty Creek villages, it is a wooded and serene area, yet close to other Shanty Creek resorts and a quick trip to Bellaire. We spent time running/walking in the community (lots of hills), outside at the fire pit and took lots of day trips. We did nature hikes, foot golf at Summit, kayaking from Bellaire to Intermediate Lake and trips to Torch Lake and Lake Michigan beaches (Elk Rapids). And we played the Cedar River course, which was a nice resort course (playable and well maintained). The house is located on the 1st green of the course. The Cedar Valley pool is an easy walk and we also drove quickly to play in the pools at all of the Shanty Creek resorts (Summit and Schuss). If not in the community, all of these activities are within easy distance from the house.
The house has a large room above the garage that quickly became the kid area - with signs posted 'Adults no allowed'. This left lots of other space for adults to relax.
We'd definitely go back! Thanks for allowing us to rent.
Wonderful home, great location for what we wanted to do!
My family thought this home was fabulous! The beautiful view overlooking the golf course was great, and relaxing. The floor plan was perfect for us, allowing privacy with the 5 bedrooms located in different areas, and the kitchen/dining areas worked well for us. We shopped for groceries at Family Fare in Bellaire, and purchased fresh salmon at Burritt's Fresh Markets in Traverse City. We also visited Friskie's Orchard to pick up donuts and cherry pie! :) We had lots of fun making smores over the firepit. The home location was good for us because we went to different points of interest each day of the week... Mackinac Island, Traverse City, Charlevoix/Petoskey/Harbor Springs, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Torch Lake, Suttons Bay/Northport, Leelanau Peninsula, Brys Estate VineYard & Winery, Mission Point Lighthouse on Old Mission Peninsula, etc. We enjoyed delicious meals at various restaurants, including The Weathervane in Charlevoix, Jolly Pumpkin in Traverse City, The Cove in Leland, and pizza from Shorts Brewing Company in Bellaire. Many great memories were created for our family which we will cherish for years to come!
Had a great time and enjoyed our stay!
Good amenities, size allows space for everyone and several families. Large kitchen provides great space for family meals. We would do it again but Suggest attention to linnens, cookware, shower and sauna doors. Issue with a clean bathroom upon arrival. Overall a good stay.
Crazy cousins getaway
House was beautiful and clean, much bigger then the pictures show it. Lots of room for everyone to gather together or if you wanted to get away there was spots to go.
The only problems we had was no shades on the upstairs loft bathroom could see into the master bedroom and the golf course employees out early before 6 in the morning sweeping the greens, extremely loud. And the bagel toaster not working.
Great place to stay and well maintained!
Annual Family Reunion
We just left this property today and already miss it! We wanted to show our family the beauty of Northwest Michigan and this house definitely started our experience on a high note. Though there were 20 people in our group, 8 adults and 12 kids from 3 families (and Grandma), the house had plenty of room for all of us. We did not feel cramped at any time and there was ample space for the kids to play and run around while the adults enjoyed some catching up. The game room was a big hit and the fire pit for s'mores is perfect! The kitchen was big enough to accommodate 4 cooks at one time. There's also a kitchen in the basement and another fridge that I used to freeze/refrigerate 86 lbs of cherries. We had an issue with the main oven the first day but Rick immediately came to check on it and called in a service guy. Unfortunately, they had to order parts and couldn't fix it while we were there. However, it didn't hinder our meals as there are two other ovens available in the house. Rick also provided a BD player even though it wasn't listed as an amenity because we thought there was one in the house. He even shared some mountain biking trails and lesser known sights in the area that only the locals would know. The rental management was also very responsive in providing some basic supplies when we ran out of them. While there, we visited Torch Lake, Lake Bellaire, Petoskey, Traverse City, Old Mission Point, Sleeping Bear Dunes and explored Shanty Creek. The house is just a short walk from the pool at Cedar River. The house was a a great home base for the areas we wanted to visit. Overall, we had a great Northwest Michigan experience and truly loved the home. We highly recommend it for big families who want their own space. Rick, thank you for your hospitality and responsiveness. We will definitely come back the next time we host the reunion.
The Troon House is located within Cedar River at Shanty Creek Resort. There are many amenities such as six golf courses, ski hills, tubing park, health club, and many restaurants at each village. We located here because it is central to beautiful lakes such as Torch Lake, Lake Bellaire, and Lake Michigan. It is also next to the quaint town of Bellaire which has may popular shops and restaurants such as Toonies, Moka, Bellaire Bar, and the famous Short's Brewery. The Dockside at Torch Lake near Alden is a favorite for locals and visitors alike. Our house is approximately thirty miles from Traverse City so you are close to the many festivals and wine tastings out on the peninsula. We are also within forty minutes of Charlevoix and Petoskey which have beautiful views of the water, unique shops, and wonderful restaurants and cafes. We are an equal distance from Odawa Casino in Petoskey, and Turtle Creek Casino in Wiliamsburg. This area has many beautiful things to see and do. We hope you enjoy it as much as we have.
