About Mirko Reckert

We ( ...I am German, my wife is from the Ann Arbor area) live in Germany. Almost every summer we travel to the old ´Northport Cottage´ to enjoy the remote, peaceful and beautiful Lelaneau peninsula. We love to swim, cycle, run, BBQ, read and .....relax at the fire pit and look at the stars! ...it makes you to come back to the basics. :-)

We enjoy that we find the time to talk with a nice glass of vine on the front porch.....

Hope you will make the same experience, .....

Quaint and Cozy in Northport countryside

  • 5 of 5

This property is well loved, clean and filled with many interesting pieces of art and vintage treasures. The floors are wood with rag runners, making it very clean but comfortable. There are many places to sit and enjoy the country view. The kitchen is so awesome, I wish we'd been able to cook a meal or play some cards. The shower is hot, the loft bed is comfy, the kitchen is well stocked, the cottage is close to town and the owners are quick to respond. There is a double bed upstairs and 2 twins downstairs. It's not designed for a crowd, but 4 would be perfect. We'd go back again!

Beautiful cottage and wonderful experience!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our six night stay at Northport Cottage for our babymoon! Its location was perfect for quick day trips and adventures to Downtown Northport, Traverse City, and all of the cities along M-22 such as Leland, Empire, and Glen Arbor. We absolutely loved hanging out on the porch enjoying our morning coffee, playing guitar, chatting, and just relaxing. The cottage has a beautiful fire pit, hammock, a porch swing, a wood burning stove that was the perfect way to keep warm, a kitchen packed with all the essentials, and overall a warm and inviting atmosphere. The owners were excellent to work with and provided quick communication despite living in Germany! We loved the famous cinnamon twists from Barb's bakery in Downtown Northport as well as visiting Tucker's for delicious dinner and live music. The marina/beach area was also beautiful and only minutes from the cottage. Peterson Park is only a 5 minute drive onto the West side of Leelenau county and is gorgeous! Don't forget to check out Lelanau State Park and the lighthouse only about 15 minutes drive north into the tip of the pinky. In Empire you can visit the Sleeping Bear Dunes and/or the scenic drive for only $15 which was one of our favorite places to visit! Don't forget to look up and view the stars at night - you can see the stars and galaxys like no other place in the world! Overall I highly recommend visiting Northport cottage and we truly can't wait to go back!

Super Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely beautiful vacation home and a lot bigger than we expected! We cooked and had a fire every evening - the kitchen is really great! The yard and fire pit area is very comfortable for lookin' at stars and listenin' to the coyotes. We enjoyed a Scrabble battle every morning on the front porch while having coffee. This was a terrific location for visiting all the places we enjoy: Northport, Glen Haven, Lake Leelanau, etc., and then feeling like you're not anywhere near a town later on. We can't wait to come back.

The owners were very easy to contact and especially responsive to questions.

Great house in country

  • 5 of 5

Great house! Well kept and charming! It was cold enough to use the fireplace. It was a great stay our 2nd time back! Really enjoy the countryside, but close to Northport and M-22 for quick trip to Leland. Would highly recommend.

Enjoyed Our Stay

  • 4 of 5

We spent a weekend at the cottage and it was very nice. We liked the location - close to town but still a quiet and country setting and that we could bring our dog along. We enjoyed the fire pit at night after spending the day going to Northport (Barb's Bakery's of course!), wine-tasting, and visiting the Grand Traverse Lighthouse Museum. It's not fancy, but was very comfortable and had everything we needed (we did cook there - breakfast & dinner). The pictures are exactly what it looks like, and we enjoyed our relaxing get-away weekend.
