About Marcia Madeira
I am a theatrical lighting designer and divide my time, between New York and Kennebunkport. Gooch's Beach and the Colony Beach are my favorites, where I go to recharge by the ocean and swim. I also love sitting on the rocks on the point. I am a good cook, so the kitchen has a good supply of pots and utensils.
Marcia Madeira purchased this Cottage in 1944
Why Marcia Madeira chose Kennebunkport
I've spent at least part of every summer of my life, in this house. I love eating all my meals on the front porch and watching the boats go by. The house is perfectly located between the town center and the ocean and beaches. My parents bought this property, once owned by Abbott Graves, because of our family history with Kennebunkport and the Seashore Company, which was formed to buy the Arundel Point and sell lots for summer cottages and hotels. My great-grandfather, John Townsend Trowbridge, built the first house on the Point.
What makes this Cottage unique
The front porch views of the river, are partially protected by lilac bushes, allowing a full view of the river traffic and some privacy. It's great to sit out there, dine, read, cook-out, grill, entertain, etc. ( 3 burner gas grill) and watch the sun set.

Thanksgiving at Riverholm
My wife, 2 adult daughters and I had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday weekend in Kennebunkport in this beautiful home on Ocean Avenue. It was a perfect location, an easy walk to the ocean or into town. Marcia remained in close touch, making sure we had everything we needed to cook our meals and be comfortable and happy. We did! We plan to go back.
We have just spent 4 nights at Riverholm. We are a party of 8 adults that travel to Kennebunkport every year at this time. We loved the proximity to everything we love to do: shop, eat, watch the boats and explore the area (on foot or by car). It was wonderful to be able to walk to and from dinner each evening. The home was well appointed and there was plenty of space to accomodate all of us. We could all be in the large living room without feeling crowded. Although we did not eat meals in (other than breakfast), the large living room and well equipped kitchen could certainly have handled it. We definitely plan to return to Riverholm.

A great place for a family!
Plenty of bedrooms and space, right on Ocean Avenue, a well stocked kitchen and an incredibly responsive owner. The only minor drawback was the old-fashioned clawfooted tubs (as opposed to showers) but the water was hot and plentiful!
My house has 3 full bathrooms, the front bath has a claw-foot tub with shower, the middle bath has a shower stall and the rear bath has only the claw-foot tub, with a hose to rinse off.
Nice Older Home on Busy Street Across From Kennebunk River
Pros: Close to both Dock Square and beach. Plenty of room for guests and easy parking. House was well maintained and clean. Many fine dining choices nearby. Owner was responsive.
Cons: Ocean Ave (street in front between the house and the river) carries a lot of traffic in July, fast-moving and noisy traffic from very early morning until late at night. If you try to sleep with the windows open you will be very conscious of it. House has electrical system challenges (judging from the written warnings not to try to use two electrical appliances at once) and very few electrical outlets. Only one real shower in the house. I felt the price point was too high for this home and location, and since we prefer peace and quiet on vacation if we return to Kennebunkport we will choose a property that is well out of earshot of Ocean Ave traffic.
Great cottage, lots of space and warm at the same time! Location was perfect for walking downtown and to the beach. Everything we needed for cooking and lots of extras!
Waterfront cottage with river front and back, 2 levels, 5 bedrooms, 3.5 baths. Great view of the Kennebunk River with yachts and lobster boats. Lovely front porch for relaxing or outdoor dining. Easy walk to Dock Square Shops or the quiet Colony Beach by the breakwater. Walk to the Point for great ocean views, St. Ann's Church and Walker's Point, home of the Bush family.
