About tracee

I am the Great-granddaughter of Gus and Anna Spitzmiller, who arrived in Grand Lake in the early 1900's. Gus first mined gold and silver with the famous Squeaky Bob Wheeler, at Lulu City, and then became a Master plumber for the village of Grand Lake. His wife, Anna, was the 1st to have running water in Grand County. I was raised here--at 8400+ feet-- and educated at Kent-Denver Country Day in Denver. I am now a retired attorney, rebuilding and renovating my family property in G.L., and fishing in Baja in the Winters.

tracee purchased this house in 1970

Why tracee chose Northwest

My Grandmother Barbara Spitzmiller, who married Gordon Spitzmiller ( Gus and Anna's son) used to own a dairy farm that covered this property and stretched across what is now Shadow Mountain Lake. When they made Shadow Mountain Reservoir, all of a sudden, Grandma owned the most beautiful lake and river front property around. It didn't really ever make up for the fact that they took her land to build a lake, but we love it, as the generations pass! She gave the double lot this house sits on to my Dad, as a kid, because it was his favorite spot for fishing, and it constituted the best 2 lots around. The home faces the Colo. river where it enters Shadow Mountain lake, that connects to Grand Lake, via a channel. After he married, he built this house. As kids we helped gather every stone on all 3 floor- to- ceiling rock fireplaces. The upstairs, i.e. the main section, is what is available for rent. It is divided now with a wood floor over the staircase for privacy--and on-site managers in an apt. downstairs. Looking out the floor to ceiling picture windows on the entire lake side of the house ( but especially the picture windows from the Master bed), makes you forget it still needs exterior paint, back-side ( non-lake-side) some landscaping and some new flooring ( under those Persian rugs, etc.). This place is truly special and incomparable in view or location. Come take advantage of the 1/2 price rates until next year when all the 'Pretty-up' is done.

What makes this house unique

The view, the floor to ceiling windows, the floor to ceiling rock fireplaces, the huge deck--and the view!!! fully remodeled--new floor coverings--hardwood, really fine carpets, antiques, etc.

The free firewood, and canoes.

The wildlife viewing, and canoeing, fishing, boating, hiking, skiing, snowmobiling, etc.

Did I mention the view? ha. Ha.

Absolutely beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

We rented tracees lakehouse for a birthday weekend and it was perfect! The view was amazing, the first evening relaxing on the huge deck over looking the lake we saw a momma and baby moose cross the river. The flowers are absolutely beautiful and caitie the "onsite manager" is very respectful to your privacy watering them very discreetly to ensure they are always beautiful. The house is very clean and and has everything you could every need on Vacation. I am already planning my next trip back to this lakehouse this fall, I bet the colors of the Aspen's changing are just gorgeous here! Thank you Tracee for such a great place!

Great Cabin on Grand Lake

  • 5 of 5

This cabin served as a great home base for our group of fishermen. We hit the rivers and streams during the day, and came back to the cabin to cook dinner and relax in the evenings. The location can't be beat. It was ideal for our purposes.

The view is priceless. Waking up to moose walking down the river right out your window .... just a beautiful location.

Owner's Response: Oh thank you so very much. We are so glad you loved our home. We recently got what we thought was a very unfair 1-star review, and it made us so sad. This really makes us feel better. Thanks and we hope you come back soon. Tracee/owner

Absolutely no privacy and problems with a run down property

  • 1 of 5

As we drive up to our expensive rental we were treated by a car in our driveway and pleasant woman and child with two dogs. She informed us that she was a live in caretaker and that that was in the vrbo ad. It was, in fact, well buried so no one sees it. She is living in the basement for the sake of the bizarre owners, up on our deck watering flowers, in our rented front yard daily gardening and robbying us of any sense of privacy. Also house is a mess. 1960 kitchen literally falling apart. Spectacular setting ruined by lack of privacy and very poor upkeep of what should be a beautiful place

Owner's Response: I am so sad that you feel this way. We pride ourselves on having the nicest properties and best service in the county. Cleanliness is of the utmost importance to us. This is my home and it has new carpet, new hardwood floors, new paint inside and out, and a new deck and roof. The furniture and beds and linens and towels are all super fine quality--though some are antiques.I did successfully use your review to convince my husband to buy me a new microwave and oven though--ha.ha--so thank you for that. But, seriously, everything works, we are extremely well equipped right down to an European cappuccino maker, and we pride ourselves on how clean and well appointed our home is. Maybe it was the "privacy" issue that caused this raving review. Yes, we have an on-site manager. She lives in an apartment downstairs and has her own entrance. I am generally told how unobtrusive she is, but we do disclose this on the VRBO site.We have lots of flowers and 3 more cabins in the adjacent 6 acre meadow and we like having someone in their own apartment keeping everything groomed and working well, and checking out the canoes we offer our guests for free. She acts much like a butler and brings more wood if you need it, etc. I believe--and you don't dispute--that the photos and information on the site are all accurate and fairly represents our home. If there is anything we can do to improve your negative experience please call me anytime. I always aim to please. Tracee/owner

Front and center stage of nature.

  • 5 of 5

The view for me is first and foremost the absolute Winner here second to the sound of a running river so close to the bedroom window that you could loft a rock into it. (nothing beats falling asleep to the sound of a fresh flowing stream)

This property is amazing! Everything was super clean, cozy and felt like home. Every step of the way was a great experience! The onsite manager Katie was a blessing and was very accommodating! We got to use the Canos and kyacks for free, also the free firewood helped our family make life long lasting memories

Our family is Definitely coming back again soon!
