This unique, 3,300 sq. ft. home is nestled between two impressive outcroppings of rock; perched at the top of the massive granite ridge that rises 260 ft. above downtown Estes Park, and a one-minute walk to the Black Canyon Inn. The pinnacle location of this gorgeous home provides two different but equally spectacular views. From the ridge at the front of the house, you see the historic MacGregor Ranch, as well as the popular “Twin Owls” rock formation on the mountain range to the north. From the expansive back deck, you’ll see the pristine, snow-capped mountains of the Continental Divide.
As you approach the house, surrounded by monolithic rock formations and vista views, you’ll feel like you’ve arrived on your own secluded mountain peak. Your Rocky Mountain vacation begins the moment you cross the threshold into the expansive living room. Immediately you’ll notice the luxurious details: the beamed cathedral ceilings, vintage chandeliers, massive rock fireplace, and second-floor balcony; all of which beckon you to make yourself at home. Enjoy the breathtaking outside views through the 20 foot, floor-to-ceiling windows.
Adjacent to the living room is a huge, open kitchen, outfitted with all new appliances. The kitchen is equipped with two double-sinks, a center island, and a 10 foot bar with barstools. This fully stocked kitchen is a great place to not only prepare delicious meals, but to truly entertain.
On the other side of the kitchen, the unique dining room has a glass wall that carves into a massive granite boulder with a cascading waterfall. Enjoy the remarkable view while seated at the ten-person dining table.
Down the hallway, the master bedroom suite has a fireplace, a king-sized bed, plenty of closet space, beautiful mountain views through the windows, and a private bathroom with double sinks and bathtub.
Up the stairs and past the balcony, the second bedroom has a king-sized bed and its own private bathroom. The third bedroom is one floor down, and has its own outside-patio-door entrance. This 1st floor separate unit has a king-sized bed and a full-sized bed, and its own bathroom with a shower.
For additional guests, the main floor has a full bed and trundle with a hall bathroom with a shower and walk-in sauna. The living room also has a queen sleeper-sofa. Four bathrooms make this an ideal home for larger groups. DIRECTV in three rooms and Wi-Fi Internet provide information and entertainment options.
The wraparound back-deck looks down a gently sloping mountainside, strewn with giant boulders and rock formations. The mountains of the Continental Divide can be seen through the towering pine trees. Complete privacy and comfortable deck furniture make this the perfect place to hang out.
The convenient location of the house puts you just minutes away from downtown Estes Park. It’s an easy walk downhill to the Twin Owls Steakhouse, which offers fine dining in a gorgeous, historic log cabin. Hiking and rock-climbing around the Twin Owls formation are 1.5 miles away at the RMNP Lumpy Ridge and Gem Lake trailheads. Schedule a trip to this truly unique destination and enjoy a vacation that your family will remember for a lifetime, and want to return year after year!

Jim Rolewicz purchased this house in 2012
We fell in love with the Estes Park area, one of the most scenic, magical places we have ever vacationed. After many trips here, we still find new hiking trails, great restaurants, and friendly people at every turn. And while you could easily spend your whole time bouncing around Estes Park, the Rocky Mountain National Park is just minutes away. It has everything from easy meadow walks with majestic mountains on all sides, to challenging hikes up those mountains. The town and the national park provide the perfect mix of activities.
After a long, disappointing search for a vacation home in Estes Park, we discovered the Twin Owls Retreat, the most amazing house we have ever seen. We threw the budget to the wind and bought it immediately!
We didn't know what to expect the first time we drove up the very nice paved drive, winding up a mountain that is within walking distance of downtown Estes Park, and is also a world unto its own.
The house came into view: an amazing structure nestled in a saddle between two massive outcroppings of rock. As we went through the 3-story, 3300 sq. ft. house, we discovered it had everything we could possibly want: seclusion, giant windows, dramatic mountain views on both sides, and ample kitchen/dining/living/deck areas.
The house amazed us with the stonework, woodwork, expansive windows, and cathedral ceilings. We were wowed by the dining room wall built into a massive boulder, with a cascading waterfall that runs down the natural rock.
We walked onto the back deck to discover an oasis of mountain beauty, with grand rock outcroppings on either side, and a great view into the Estes Park valley and the Continental Divide in front of us. We love watching the different species of birds flying around the boulders, and the shadows of the clouds moving across the mountains in the distance.
We quickly discovered other perks of the house, including a sauna, two fireplaces, four bathrooms, and a view of the famous Twin Owls formation off to the north.
The three-story layout of the house with the large main area on the second floor gives you the best of two worlds. Guests can have private sleeping quarters on their own floor, while enjoying time together in the expansive communal space. Twin Owls has turned out to be the perfect gathering place for friends and family, and a great setting to re-connect with loved ones!
LOVED THE TWIN OWLS RETREAT! BEAUTIFUL VIEW AND THE HOUSE IS JUST FANTASTIC! WE FELT LIKE MOVIE STARS FOR A WEEK!
Great location which has a great ambience. I would highly recommend.
This house is beautiful and truly a retreat.
It is spacious, immaculate, with a fantastic back terrace. The owner is available and very nice. The house has everything one might need.
We had a wedding in Lyons, CO. so planned a true family vacation around her dates. Our family...my wife & I, my son & his wife, two grandsons, our daughter enjoyed six nights & seven days experiencing the ambiance, wildlife and smashing views from Twin Owls Retreat. I am a birder, so everyday began by watching birds while drinking coffee from the enormous deck facing the view to the south...Long's Peak. Every evening found us watching the clouds play around the snow covered peaks.
Cooking breakfast allowed us to view experience a totally different view... the elk from the north facing "elk window". In fact, as we left Twin Owls for the final time, six bull elk met us coming up to the home. What a fantastic sight.
Daily bird sightings included Western Tanager, Cordilleran Flycatcher, Pygmy Nuthatches, Broad-tailed Hummingbirds, White-collared Swifts, Chimney Swifts, Violet Green Swallows, Tree Swallows, a family a six Ravens, Steller's Jays and Black-billed Magpies.
Nights are gloriously black and quiet. You can hear owls and coyotes calling, without deafening road traffic or light pollution. Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn followed their elliptical path across the star filled sky.
Living at Twin Owls Retreat was definitely easy to do. We actually cooked most of our meals on-site, enjoying the company of our 7 & 4 year old grandsons at meal time, The grocery store & adult beverage store are about a mile away and avoided the downtown Estes Park traffic jams of tourists, making meal planning and shopping easy and enjoyable. The bedrooms are spacious & comfortable with windows that let dawn and sunrise peep into each one. There are 4 bathrooms making things convenient for our large group. The indoor rock waterfall in the dining area was fantastic. The whole house is designed around its natural rock landscape...our grandsons enjoyed driving their trucks over the boulder in the middle of the deck. Huge windows allow you to view the mountains of near by Rocky Mountain National Park.
Economically, Twin Owls Retreat makes sense for any group that will require 2 or more motel rooms on vacation. Who wants to spend hours enjoying RMNP and the beautiful outdoors, and then return and to a motel room and its' uncomfortable furnishings when you can enjoy the massive open space of Twin Owls Retreat? In fact, we enjoyed our stay at Twin Owls so much, we never once turned on the television.
We loved it, and we will be back.
The Hall Family
We had an excellent time staying at Jim's house in the rocks. It was clean, quiet and beautiful. The kids especially liked the rock water feature and the Bobcat that visited on the deck! We walked down to the Steak House for dinner and saw Elk and Deer on our way. Overall, we would definitely recommend the Twin Owl Retreat to other families.
Twin owls retreat is a fabulously beautiful and unique property. The setting is beyond amazing. Great location close to hiking trails, as well as close to town.
