About the property

Stand Alone House In Private Setting Across From The Beach

Delightful one bedroom home in the charming beach community known as Moloa'a Bay. This beautiful area is the off the beaten path making it a private, secluded retreat. The sparkeling blue bay is surrounded by grassy bluffs that offer easy walking excursions and the opportunity to explore oceanside trails. Ideal for the couple who appreciates nature and staying steps from one of Kauai's best kept secret spots. Fresh sea breezes and sounds of the surf lull you to sleep in our Hawaiiana style home. Kauai as it should be.

Moloa'a bay is a beautiful crescent shaped, white sand beach located twenty minutes from the town of Kapa'a to the south and the famous Hanalei Bay to the north. Off the beaten path it is secluded and very rural in nature.

During the winter months when the whales are visiting, Moloa'a offers fantastic whale viewing opportunities. The bay is also home to the Hawaiian monk seal and green leather back turtles. Early morning walks on the beach are the best time to enjoy a peek of these elusive creatures.

This spot is ideal for nature lovers and has an abundance of viewing opportunities for bird lovers as well. The Hawaiian thrush and shama bird fill the air with their delightful songs adding a musical quality to your stay in this magical area. Nearby nesting site of the white egret provide a fantastic ariel show each sunrise as hundreds of these graceful white birds depart for the day and then again a dusk as they delight with their acrobatic flight patterns upon their return to their roost. Many majestic sea birds can be viewed from the beaches including albatross, sheerwaters and frigates. The birds add a national geographic quality to the day at the beach and in the Moloa'a valley..

All in all, Moloa'a bay and its surrounding beach community is a unique visitor experience different from what you may find in the more developed communities. It is quiet, peaceful and surrounded by beautiful tropical forest. It is not for everyone, only those folks who want to connect to the land and the sea on their vacation and leave their cyber world behind for a while.

Our cottage is recently remodeled with bamboo hardwood floors and new stainless appliances. With its comfortable , colorful decor, you will feel at home in our cozy home. Complete with beach chairs, umbrellas and boogie boards, this vacation home offers everything you need for a wonderful and restful vacation at the beach.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We have stayed in many places in Kauai over the years and finally found a place where we will return. It is right across the street from the mos beautiful beach on the North shore AND, there is no hassel parking like there is at most of the other beaches, because you can just leave your car in the driveway and walk 3 minutes to the beach. Over the years, as Kauai has gotten more and more popular, we have had an increasingly difficult time finding parking at the beach, no longer a problem now that we found our dream spot in Moloa'a. This cottage is cute and clean and has everything you need for a fun and relaxing vacation. Two thumbs up!

Kauai as it should be.

Its not often that I find a place on vacation where I believe I could live happily ever after, but Hale Hawaiiana is that place.

I visited in December and was thrilled to find it was everything it said it was. It really was....steps from the beach, and I really did fall asleep to the sounds of the surf each night. This cottage is aptly named as it is very Hawaiiana, I felt like a local when I stayed here, very authentic.

I hesitate to recommend it because I want it to always be available for me!!! However, I highly recommend this charming piece of true Kauai.

Very tranquil

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed with his family for the first week near Tunnels beach & then came to Moloa'a Bay once they left. It was very peaceful out here & the beach wasn't packed at all! This house was perfect for what we were wanting. No service lets you just relax & enjoy beautiful Kauai. Since we were already on the island, the owner let us check in early (because it was ready) and we REALLY appreciate it! Saved us from having to haul our luggage around for the day. We can't wait to be back to kauai!

Perfect and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

The stars at night, sound of the surf, rustling of trees. This was a fantastic getaway. The nearby beach was almost empty each time we went there (late Nov) and the proximity to Kilauea meant good food. If you are looking for a place that is quiet and away from bustle, this is it! Highly recommend.

Lovely week

  • 5 of 5

We had a really lovely week in this beach cottage. It is just as promised; quiet, steps from the beach and well located for activities all over the island. We found it to be a restful, romantic getaway home for our anniversary. Mary Ellen was personable, friendly and accommodating. We would definitely stay here again!

Exceptional stay in Moloaa

  • 5 of 5

This tropical bungalow is a peaceful retreat in a very quiet and remote location. It had everything we needed including an welcome basket of fruits. Very clean and well organised space, homey feel.

Beach chairs, boogie boards, mats, all you need for a day at the beach is there.

We enjoyed the idyllic beach mostly to our selves where there are protected areas to swim and snorkel.

The walk over the grassy hill offers beautiful views of the rugged coast.

I would recommend it to family or friends looking for a calm out of the way retreat as there are no nearby shops, cafes, restaurants. Best place nearby, just off the main road is the Moloaa Sunrise Juice stand. In Kilauea try Palate Wine Bar, serves great wine and food.

Only comments: shower curtain and a kitchen ceiling light bulb needed replacing. Garbage collection on Thursday morning around 4:30am shocked us awake yet, this is a disturbance that all houses in the Moloaa enclave suffer, in addition to the ever present roosters of Kauai!

Aloha! Mahalo!

Owner's Response: We have had the most delightful visitors this year. We always appreciate a review and are grateful for any recommendations. WE did immediately replace the lightbulb and the shower curtain and thank you for pointing that out. Our farm is just up the road and we are always happy to share our fresh fruits with our visitors, we like to start the trip off on the right foot. The garbage trucks usually come by at 6:30 once a week. We are glad to have the service but agree, they make a bit of a racket! And if you are not used to the sound of roosters, that can be a bit of a surprise as well. Believe it or not, after a while, you don't hear them anymore. WE love that our cottage is off the beaten path and most visitors feel like they are getting more of a local experience and connecting to the real Kauai. There are not very many affordable places that are located right across from the beach, a real plus on a visit to the islands, roosters and over-zealous garbage men and all! Mahalo nui loa

Perfect place for 2 for a week

  • 5 of 5

We loved the house. It was just right for our 10-year-anniversary. It is right on the bay, which was one of our favorite beaches. We loved having our own parking spot, and the outdoor shower and relaxation area under the house was awesome. The house is central to both the North and East beaches/attractions. Both Princeville and Kapaa were within 20 minutes drive. When we go back to Kauai, we will be booking a stay at the same house.
