About Nick and Juleen Cardenas
We are Minnesota natives but love our lake property in Wisconsin and hope to retire there someday. We styled our lake home with features we liked at other vacation homes, and we enjoy sharing our retreat with family and friends.
Nick and Juleen Cardenas purchased this House in 2007
Why Nick and Juleen Cardenas chose Stanley
Nick's mother loved camping and fishing here. We were impressed by the lake's size, scenic islands and eagle sightings. It sometimes reminds us of the peaceful Minnesota Boundary Waters area.
What makes this House unique
Warm up by a crackling fire with marshmallows and a favorite beverage. Gaze at the stars from the deck. Read a good book while sitting on a balcony above the creek. Play ping pong and other games, or watch movies on the projection TV wall. On the water, go fishing, row a boat or canoe, or float and look for eagles. On land, go for a walk, a bike ride, or build a bonfire. In snow, use the snowshoes or bring your cross country skis or snowmobile. Warm up by the fireplace or use the indoor sauna! In town, enjoy the small town shopping, pizza, or a visit to Munson Winery or the Leinenkugel Brewery. Lots to do during your get-away to our lake home!

Great private getaway
Our group enjoyed our stay at “ Plum Creek”.. Upon arrival the house was clean, organized and setup very well to accommodate any large group. More than enough beds, bathrooms and space. We never found ourselves asking, “ if only they had this”. Everything was covered .
Even though the weather was cold and rainy/ snowy we had plenty to occupy our time. There were board games, card games and a ping pong table.
Just a short drive from Leinenkugel Brewery and many other local attractions, specialty cheese shops, microbreweries and quaint towns such as Thorp, Stanley and Chippewa Falls. Otter Lake is a beautiful setting and during warmer months would definitely offer plenty of recreational water sports and fishing.
Thank you to the owners for a great stay and helping to make our trip so enjoyable.
We would recommend this property to anyone who is visiting the area or looking for that “getaway “ in the woods.
We’re glad you enjoyed staying at our home, what we fondly call “Plum Creek.” Your review should be helpful to others looking for a similar vacation spot. Hope you’ll be back!
Photos don't do it justice!!!
The pictures of this home do not even come close to doing it justice! It's truly such a beautiful home in a fantastic setting! We had a wonderful getaway and couldn't of been happier. We also had a great time doing a Lienenkugels tasting! Otherwise most our time was spent canoeing around the lake! Great, great weekend!
Thank you! We’re glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at our home!
Love it, will be back
Owners were great to work with, easy booking, lots of room for everyone. We really enjoyed our time at Plum Creek!!
Great gathering place for a large group/family!
The house was perfect for our annual Labor Day family reunion. Loved all the different gathering places. The furniture was comfortable!!! Beds were great! We were a group of 9 adults and 4 children, 6 and under. We all commented on how we felt so comfortable and at "home". Everything was very clean and well stocked!! Loved the fire pit area. The ONLY negative was the water front. But in light of everything else that was a small thing. The lake was beautiful and peaceful. Fishing wasn't good at all for us. I highly recommend this place!!! Also, Thorpe is close and so much to enjoy there.
Great place for family time!
This was a lovely place in a central location to gather our family together. Very easy for my sisters family to drive over from Thorp and connect with us. They dairy farm so it's hard for them to get away. We immediately felt welcome and very much at home in this beautifully decorated cabin in the woods. Great wooded views and much space to enjoy. Fish were caught and cooked up and a nice campfire was enjoyed. The basement projector was appreciated during a rainy day and the ping pong table was a hit! We also had a competitive pictionary game. The only reason this beautiful retreat didn't score a 5 with us is because Saturday when the neighbors arrived there was quite a bit of gunfire during the day and especially during our family shrimp boil. The other days were very nice and quite. We would definitely consider visiting again! Thank you!!!
Very scenic, with everything we needed for a group of 13.
We had a wonderful time at Plum Creek. It was a good meeting spot between Green Bay and the Twin Cities for extended family to get together. The weather consisted of a lot of on again, off again rain but the kids were well occupied inside with the projection tv, games, ping pong and wi-fi. The adults sat on the deck between the rain and enjoyed the scenery and the hummingbirds (I have never before seen that many hummingbirds). During the rain, we visited inside or worked on puzzles. One morning there were three deer (including a fawn) down below on the trail. It really felt we were up in the trees when on the deck.
We were able to spend some time on the dock as well, and use one of the canoes, the rowboat and the paddleboat. We did not catch any fish, but the kids enjoyed going out on the boats on their own.
The variety of pots, pans, utensils, etc. was very good. With the exception of carrying out pizza and pasta one night we cooked all of our meals in the home. In general, there really wasn't anything we could think of that wasn't there that we wish we had.
We really just enjoyed being there and have already started talking amongst ourselves when a good time would be to come back. Thank you for making your home available to us!
Thank you Tim. We're glad you all had a great time and would love to welcome you back in the future!
Choose this location for relaxation, whether you like to boat, fish, hike, read a book, watch a movie, play games, or just hang out with family and friends. View eagles, blue heron, otters, turtles, deer and more wildlife. The small town atmosphere is only 8 miles away where you can reconnect with shops, a movie theater, restaurants, or court sports and playground at the city park. In the winter, use our snowshoes or bring your ice fishing poles and snowmobiles. Warm up by a bonfire, the fireplace or the indoor sauna!
