Hale Ho'omaha o Lānai is a Native Hawaiian owned and operated Bed & Breakfast cottage, permitted by Maui County on the island of Lāna'i. The proprietor has an intimate knowledge of the cultural and natural landscape of Lāna'i.

In compliance with Maui County rules we can only allow one to two guests at a time since this is a one bedroom cottage, and out of respect to our neighbors. You may contact us for further information.

Pursuant to Dept. of Health (DOH) regulations, Hale Ho'omaha o Lāna'i does not provide meals. We invite guests to walk around and explore Lāna'i City. We provide menus/brochures from various places on the island that guests may visit and enjoy.

This cool and comfortable one bedroom guest cottage is located on a half acre of land on the island of Lāna'i. It is a short walk to Lāna'i City (2/10ths of a mile) the last historic plantation community in Hawaii.

Microwave, small kitchen, 2-burner stove, small refrigerator-freezer, cooking utensils, dishes, linens, air conditioner, ceiling fans, cable television, secure wireless internet (code given upon check-in), outdoor uncovered patio. Inquire about use of a gas barbecue on property.

As required by Maui County rules and regulations, Quiet Hours: 9:00 pm - 8:00 am. NO AMPLIFIED SOUND AT ALL TIMES.

Designated parking is provided on property. Owner lives in main home on property.

Until confirmed, rates are subject to change without notice.

Inquire for a one-night stay. Three nights minimum is required on all major holidays and holiday weekends throughout the year, including special event weekends.

Bed and Breakfast rental/property rules agreement must be completed, signed and received with payment prior to arrival (refer to rates).

Cancellation Policy: Any reservation must be cancelled no later than two weeks in advance before the check-in date to receive full refund, less the $35.00 administrative fee.

If you cancel within the two weeks, we will retain the first night's rate and the $35.00 administrative fee.

If you cancel within 48 hours of your check-in-time (or later), NO REFUND will be given except for security deposit and cleaning fee that will be returned.

Early Departures: While we sympathize with unforeseen circumstances, once you have checked in, the guest cottage is no longer available to rent therefore no refunds will be given.

About the owner: Born and raised in Hawai'i all my life. Native Hawaiian. Family involved in historic preservation on the Island of Lāna'i and throughout Hawai'i

Why the Owner Chose Lanai City, HI, USA:
In 1923 when James Dole initiated design and construction of Lāna‘i City as a part of the Hawaiian Pineapple Company’s Lāna‘i Plantation, several classes of residences were built. In the city two and three bedroom homes were built for families, generally on lots of about 3,000 to 4,000 square feet. Single men who worked on the plantation were provided rooms and board in boarding houses which were occurred on various blocks throughout the city. On the hill overlooking the city, the plantation manager’s house, and houses built for management staff and professionals were built. These “management” residences all had a main house, a detached garage and laundry room, and a guest house. The lots ranged in size from a quarter acre to just under one acre. The home situated at 452 ‘Ōhi‘a Place, is one of the later management homes built on Lāna‘i, and is part of a group of 15 homes of the same design, built in 1948. The house sits on nearly one-half acre of land, which is buffered by plantings up to 30 feet high on three sides (north, east and west), and by ‘Ōhi‘a Place on the south. The homes on the hill (formerly known as “Haole Camp”) have always hosted guests to the island. And following World War II, when a public hunting program was initiated by the Territory (later State) of Hawai‘i, families throughout Lāna‘i city hosted both personal guests and visitors during hunting seasons. The use of Lāna‘i homes as a place where visitors were welcomed, is a practice that dates back more than 60 years. While payment was not always asked, the guests always brought food and items no generally available on Lāna‘i, or paid for the boarding. Many families supplemented their income by renting rooms for short term visits. This one-half acre property offers the comforts of a Lāna'i home. Peaceful.

Located on hill above Lāna'i City. Large property, peaceful and quiet. At night it's very dark, sometimes you may hear deer barking and during the day see turkeys run through the yard. Property is located in location that was referred to in the plantation days as "Haole Camp."
