Stunning 5BR Home On Savannah's Prettiest Street
This grand 5-bedroom home, located on the most famous residential street of Savannah, was built in 1883 for the former Chairman of the Chatham County Commission, Joseph J. Dale. A beautiful Italianate exterior with foot-thick walls encloses 4200 square feet of living space on 3 stories. The home boasts 12-foot ceilings, original fireplaces, and heart pine floors that shine from one level to the other. Careful renovations combine modern refinement with the original style. The house sits in the middle of a prime Jones Street block within the historic district, sheltered from noise, full of light, and amongst the best parks and sites of Savannah.
The main entrance is on the parlor level, with bedrooms on both the top floor above and garden level below. A porch adorned with wooden flourishes covers the front door. Next to the entrance, a plaque designates the historic landmark status of the property. Inside, the parlor has floor-to-ceiling bay windows from which to spot the occasional horse-drawn carriage on tour. Reproduction furnishings fit the vintage of the house while also affording comfortable relaxation. An archway frames the formal dining room and table with seating for 10, lighted by the soft twinkling of a magnificent crystal chandelier. At the back of the house is a gourmet kitchen outfitted with Kitchen Craft cupboards, two farmers porcelain sinks, sub-zero refrigerator, and a Thermador commercial stove. A breakfast area seats six and a balcony overlooks the courtyard.
Head up the banister stairway to find 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms on the top floor. The front room contains a king bed and comfortable chairs where you can read while looking out on the live oaks of Jones. A middle bedroom includes a queen bed, armoire, and skylight. A 3rd bedroom in back, decorated with golden wall coverings and a double bed, overlooks the garden and enjoys soft morning light. This floor also has a balcony from which you can survey the surrounding residential rooftops.
Downstairs from the parlor floor is a garden-level ground floor with two spacious bedrooms, a TV den, a full bathroom, and a kitchenette. The front bedroom contains a king bed and dark wood furnishings. The garden-facing back bedroom contains a double bed and views of the lion-head fountain.
Garden level French doors open onto the flower- and vine-laden courtyard area behind the house. It features two Lion Head fountains, one of which is the centerpiece of a tall ivy-draped wall. Outdoor chairs and tables enable al fresco dining.
As for the address, Jones is the premier residential street in Savannah?s historic district. An article from USA Today describes its status: ?Like the consummate Southern Belle, this street appears in every regional and national beauty contest, and often wins. Live oaks festooned with Spanish moss tower over the cobblestone street. Flowerbeds and perfectly trimmed hedges neatly border historic houses ? everything in seemingly perfect condition.?

What a beautiful house for our party of 5 couples celebrating New Year’s Eve and a big 60th birthday
The house is absolutely gorgeous and gave a real flavor of historic Savannah. There was plenty of separate living areas for all to enjoy their space. THe basement TV area was perfect to watch all the bowl games, while others were upstairs playing cards. Great location to many sights and even Bay St./river area.
Great Family Stay!
Our family stayed for a week to celebrate a masters degree from SCAD. What a great place to stay! We had plenty of room to spread out. Our kids are age 16-22. The boys took over the garden level, and the rest of us had rooms upstairs. The kitchen was so usable, with a great eating space. The kids had fun with Alexa. We did a bit of entertaining, and enjoyed the beautiful dining room. The air conditioning worked great! It was a great home base to enjoy all that Savannah has to offer.
Beautiful home within walking distance to everything '
The house was roomy and comfortable with room for 9 of us to spread out and relax. Comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, 2 beautiful verandas and a courtyard/patio in a beautiful, quiet section of town. We loved it!!
Simply perfect for a group of 10! Beautiful home- fantastic location!
We've just returned home from a wonderful weekend with family and friends in Savannah. We chose the JJ Dale house for it's location and amenities. We also liked the layout of the house as we had five kids in their 20's and the rest of us much older. The kids loved the privacy of the garden level- they could go out at night and not bother the rest of us. The home is simply breath taking. It's beautiful, yet comfortable- it was immaculately clean and all and all- a five star home to stay in. The kitchen was well stocked, the linens were very nice, and again, the cleanliness really stuck out! Having rented quite a few homes through VRBO, I give this one a big thumbs up. Savannah Getaways was wonderful to work with and answered any questions that I had. They were great to work with! We will definitely rent from them again and more than likely select this home for our next trip to Savannah. Perfect trip for everyone!!
