About Susan Baraz
I'm from NY originally and have a place there as well, Once a NY'r always a NY'r. I'm a photography consultant, Director of Photography for a high level resource for photo assignment work, called AtEdge, Chair of the largest Fine Art benefit, Focus on AIDS, and I'm Co-Chair of the 'Academy Awards' of Photography called"The Lucie Awards", I curated the UN Climate Change COP21 exhibition in Paris-and in Mexico City. My property has beautiful paintings and photography all around, Nothing makes me happier than being able to surround myself and others with wonderful works of art.
Susan Baraz purchased this House in 1976
Why Susan Baraz chose North of Wilshire
The house has every detail designed and decorated to provide a warm and inviting feeling for it's occupants. My Dad was a decorator in NY and I guess I have the 'bug' as I enjoy making a place feel like 'home'. This wonderful house absolutely does! I've kept the original, 1920's, wood/wood beam ceiling in LR, wood burning fireplace, as well as the beams in dining room and other rooms original details that are rare to find today. I've kept with the feeling of this exceptional Spanish home. It's been in magazines and the garden in front is picture worthy-back too.
What makes this House unique
I've only had long term renters who were in entertainment business, directors and writers, therefore they're used to having it all-so the house is fully equipped for every need. It's not ever been sparsely decorated as most income properties. This is a true HOME, wood burning fire place, top of the line appliances, and completely enclosed so that children can't wander off. Patios surround it, and the French doors open on to them and inner court. Backyard has a fantastic environment to lounge, cook, pick fruit from plum, fig trees. and have fun BBQ's with guests. There's a room on seated deck for an office, painting place- sanctuary.. A tranquil enclave to call home in this residential neighborhood, but it's surrounded by all that makes living in Santa Monica exceptional, from it's parks, to boutiques, markets, to top restaurants and the SM beach!

Beautiful home in a beautiful peaceful neighborhood! Home away from home!
My kind of house! It is very cozy, comfortable and so peaceful. I felt as if I were at home. Thank you, Susan, your kindness meant a lot!
A place to call home! Wanted to stay longer.
A house doesn't get more "cosy" than this. A beautiful lush green rear garden with plums and figs. This part of Santa Monica is for real families. Primary School a stones throw away, middle school a short bike ride away, Douglas park; one of LA's most beautiful parks with public tennis courts is a short walk away. A big wholefoods around the corner. Lots of cafes, places to eat and unique shops within a few minutes Drive. Just far enough from the hussle and super dense living of the super popular Santa Monica beach front areas like 3rd st or the Pier it's all so accessible while living in a beautiful neighbourhood. It's a super friendly place to ride bikes and it was always a delight to ride down Washington to the waters edge and see the breathtaking views ; Malibu to the right and Santa Monica Pier to the left; we would usually head left and join the path along the beach riding under the pier and ending somewhere near Venice (muscle) beach.
It's was so easy to be a Tourist and in a few minutes return to a "home".
We can't finish the review without mentioning our host. What an amazing and accomplished person! Always answering every question and doing everything to make our stay ( of close to a year ) as comfortable as possible. We will miss our host as much as the home.
Immediate neighbours were also very friendly with our children looking forward to their visits
If your looking for a home and a holiday experience this is a super place.
Big thanks to our host.
Dearest Bornstein family,
After almost a year's stay, the house and I miss you! Thank you for your gracious review and being the kind of a family who immerse themselves in their surroundings and make use of all that's special about Santa Monica,(LOTS!) including it's people. You relish life and impart that zest in your children.
Well, the fig, lemons, and plum trees are laden with fruit, and my pickers are back in Australia. Can we get a workers visa and have them return?
Sending you MUCH love, and again, thanks for stating the facts in such a delightful, and enticing way. I look forward to your visiting (you've left a neighborhood WAY too tranquil now) or vice versa, as Australia is on my, ever narrowing, bucket list.
xo Susan, or as your delicious Suri would say: Snoozan
Beautiful house, great location in Santa Monica
We had a memorable stay in this lovely home, 4 adults and a 3 year old. The lovely, spacious house is very comfortable, well equipped, full of interesting art and feels like a home rather than a rental. The garden is beautifully laid out, peaceful, with space to relax and a lovely shaded eating area with barbecue. There is also plenty of space both inside and out for children to play.
The house is in a very quiet street, close to both Montana up market shops and the lovely Douglas park with children's playground by Wilshire and near to Wholefoods.
Susan was extremely helpful, friendly and responsive to every need, particularly for Leo, our 3 year old, who was very impressed! Thank you Susan for a lovely holiday.
I highly recommend the house and hope to return again when next in Santa Monica.
I just wanted to say, "Thank you" for your kind, lovely and gracious review. It is only matched by those same words applied to your family.
You were all such a delight to meet, so interested, and took such relish in exploring and enjoying, not only what the home offered, (books, art, backyard,"figs"), but the SM area surrounding it. Leo is SO ADORABLE I can understand wanting to give him the world on a platter. I have 2 little 3 yr old girls waiting in the wings, though they're older (by two weeks). Happy everyone got a chance to celebrate his birthday at the house, but also had an opportunity to celebrate being together! Again, thank you for such a wonderful review. I welcome seeing you all again, as you have a very inspiring, joyous family dynamic. Warmest regards!
Coming from a very cold and wet London I was totally delighted with the amazing house here in Santa Monica. The house is in a beautiful and quiet street. The house itself could not have been bettered. The decor was perfect, the garden private and beautiful. I have found my home from home here in LA. I only hope it is always available for me when I travel to Los Angeles.
We just finished spending two months at this house, and our stay was fabulous for many reasons. First, the location cannot be beat. It is close enough to the beach to walk or ride a bike (less than two miles) but far enough away that you avoid the congestion and horrible traffic of the beach. It is also in a beautiful residential neighborhood that is a short walk to the shops on Montana. Second, the house is great. We really enjoyed the beautiful garden area and the spacious accommodations. We had guests stay almost every weekend, and it never felt crowded. Third, we liked that the house had the charm of a lived-in home, rather than the feeling of a sterile rental. And it was stocked with everything you might need from cooking spices, to scotch tape, a stapler, and laundry detergent. Finally, our host Susan was fabulous! She thought of every detail, recommended restaurants, and even e-mailed us a coupon for on! We felt like it was our home, and that was due in large part to Susan's welcoming and warm attitude. We give this place our highest recommendation, and if Susan ever wanted to sell it, we would buy it.
Delightful house in Santa Monica
I was delighted with my stay in this charming home. The property is a delight with both a pretty front garden, deck and large well planted private garden to the rear. The interior has been thoughtfully decorated and the feel of a family home whilst being very smart. All the rooms sport interesting and exquisite art works giving the interior an exceptional feel unlike some blander holiday properties. Everything one could need is catered for and I could happily had stayed for a year. The property and yard are spotlessly clean. Santa Monica is packed with fabulous restaurants and cafes and the beach is nearby.
The owner Susan is wonderful, happy to help and advise and great fun.
I would thoroughly recommend this lovely home to all my friends and work colleagues.
Less than a mile from the famous Santa Monica Pier, beach, and boardwalk; 3rd Street Promenade with movies, strolling, and restaurants, beautiful Montana Ave. with it's exclusive stores and dining; walking distance (2 blocks) to Whole Foods-short drive to ALL markets, Just a few minutes away from Bergamot Station, which houses 65 of the top art galleries in the US.
