Tranquil getaway on 135 acres; hike, ski, shop, relax
About Laura Melbourne
My family has owned a home on "The Hill" for the past 40 years. My husband and I were married in Woodstock almost 30 years ago and our grown children spent most summers and family holidays here in Bridgewater. The family purchased "Someday" to maintain the history of this beautiful property, carry on the legacy and protect the land from being over-developed. We know you will enjoy the area as much as we do!
Laura Melbourne purchased this House in 2014
Why Laura Melbourne chose Bridgewater
Convenient to Woodstock and a variety of activities including local skiing at Killington, Pico, Okemo and Suicide 6. Quiet setting with open fields, hiking trails and mountain views. The recently winterized "Great Room" is truly unique featuring original wood paneled walls, vaulted ceilings with exposed wood beams and a new wood burning stove in the original stone fireplace. Enjoy the ambiance of the rustic setting with new, comfortable furnishings.
What makes this House unique
Historic property with signature "Great Room" boasting stone fireplace with wood burning stove. Two miles up a quiet country road off of convenient Route 4 between Woodstock and Killington. The home features the "Colonel's Great Room" which was added onto the original house in the early 1930's by Colonel Townsend Whelen - famed author, inventor and marksman. A beautiful setting during any season now that the room was winterized in 2017.

An amazing rustic farmhouse with modern conveniences
This is an amazing property that exceeded our expectations! I’m not sure if I even know enough complimentary adjectives to describe our very memorable stay at ‘Someday’. This well-preserved farmhouse is in an idyllic setting overlooking the well-groomed fields and vast foliage (peak!) of the Green Mountains in the distance. Enjoy the secluded feeling with no neighbor homes in sight yet a quaint town is an easy 2-mile ride down the road. It has all the modern conveniences but with a fireplace in most main-level rooms and historical decorations throughout, it maintains all the charm and simplicity of a rustic farmhouse. Family meals at the dining room table overlooking the mountains through the huge bay windows was a cherished event. Relaxed conversation, reading or board games in front of the fire in the impeccably preserved ‘Colonel’s Room’ took us back to another time. The beds were all super comfortable and an easy way to wind down then watch the amazing sunrise flood sunshine through the windows. The owner Laura was an absolute star to work with and provided prompt and thorough support from initial inquiry to key drop. We would absolutely recommend this property and will be looking for a calendar slot for a repeat visit!
Beautiful Home and Views that is Convenient to get to Ski Slopes
My family and I rented the Someday home for a ski getaway and it was a wonderful experience. The house fit our needs perfectly with plenty of room to spread out in. We had anticipated going out to eat while on our vacation but ended up staying in each night because we loved relaxing at the house in front of the fire places. The property is located on a huge piece of land with gorgeous views all around. The location was very convenient for our group being just 15 minutes from Killington ski resort and 15 minutes from Woodstock. Laura was an extremely attentive host from the moment we booked the house until the day we left. She was willing to assist in making our stay as enjoyable as possible. We highly recommend the home, but did hope to keep it our secret since we'd love to be able to book it again!
Views to die for!
We used the house for overflow guests this holiday-- what a charming house. So comfortable, beautiful decor, lots of common space, amazing views. Laura is a fabulous host and very responsive. Everyone who looks at the house says "I have found my dream Vermont house"! We will definitely rent again.
Enjoy all that our wonderful location has to offer during any season. Fill your days with traditional outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing/snowboarding, golf and biking, or you can enjoy a visit to nearby towns to do some shopping, peruse the works of local artists and experience the great food scene. Finally, check out some local points of interest including: President Calvin Coolidge Homestead & Museum; Billings Farm and Museum; Simon Pearce Glass Blowers; Norman Rockwell Museum of Vermont; Quechee Gorge and State Park; Long Trail Brewery Tour; Mount Tom; Woodstock History Center; and day drives through rustic towns to visit covered bridges.
