About Carol Fitzmorris

Began building home in 2007. Do not have landscaping yet but mountain views are beautiful. We live in the upstairs but have our own kitchen, laundry, etc. Horses are on the property (40acres) and in the winter, cows, too.

Jim manages the ranch and Carol manages the vacation rental.

Carol Fitzmorris purchased this house in 2007

Why Carol Fitzmorris chose Southwest

We are located 35 miles from Telluride and 2 hours from Moab,Utah. The surrounding area is beautiful and varied and remote. World class elk hunting, deer, bear and mountain lion attract hunters from the entire country. All mountain sports and fishing available. The small town of Norwood is charming and local ranchers are good neighbours.

What makes this house unique

We chose to retire here because of the beautiful area, the local people and the remoteness. We built our own home so we could have the vacation rental or B&B as a retirement project and share God' s grace with others.

Beautiful, comfortable home with incredible hosts

  • 5 of 5

First of all, the house far exceeded my group's expectations. There was more than enough space for over 10 people and everyone was quite comfortable. The homeowners (Jim and Carol) were communicative, welcoming, warm and all-together the best aspect of this rental. We will definitely reach out to stay at this house whenever in the area.

Nice stay

  • 3 of 5

Stayed in the downstairs part of the home in Norwood. The king beds were very comfortable, as was the day bed in the living room for the kids. Would have been nice if the place were more prepared for our arrival, such as the refrigerator being plugged in and the house aired out. Upon our arrival it smelled musty, like no one had been down there in quite a while. Kitchen was well stocked and we cooked a couple of meals there easily.

Norwood is a fairly long drive from Telluride and Ouray. However, it's very close to the San Miguel river, which is a great place for fishing. Depends on what you want to do and how much time you are willing to spend driving.

What I didn't like was that we could hear the owners upstairs, especially at night. One of the bedrooms was directly under the owners' bedroom and we could hear every footstep and talking. Not sure I liked staying in the same home as the owner, I think next time I'll look for a place where we are the only ones there.

Owner's Response: Christine, I am sorry your stay was less than you expected. This is my first negative review and I am not sure how to respond. I try to enable families access to a truly beautiful area at a price lower than the local motels in a more accommodating space. I feel God has blessed me and I want to pass this on to others. I do try very hard to do my best . Carol

Quiet and comfortable stay

  • 5 of 5

Our family group stayed at this very nice and quiet place recently. The property is very well maintained and every care is taken to make the stay comfortable. Staying here, we visited Ouray, Silverton and Telluride. I must admit that the drives are a bit long to these places, but then the entire region is so beautiful & scenic that I can't complain about the drive. There are so many places to hike and bike. We also explored Miramonte reservoir which is about 17miles. If you want a quiet and peaceful getaway, this property is as comfy as it gets. Our kids also had a great time helping Carol and Jim herd their few cows. They also have a few majestic horses. The owners are very helpful and kind people. The place itself is very scenic with great views of few mountains, as far away as some in Utah. I will certainly recommend this place to anyone.

Wonderful home for our families 4th of July Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at this beautiful place for our 4th of July Getaway and it was PERFECT!! Carol and Jim are so sweet and accommodating and the place is exactly like the pictures. The property itself is gorgeous with a spectacular view of the mountains. The kids loved playing outside with the games we brought and there was plenty of room for them to do so. They were also allowed to feed a few treats to the horses they have on property, which was a highlight for them. The place is centrally located and we were able to get out and explore all the areas around it like Ouray and Lake Miramonte. We will definitely be back for another stay. Thank you Carol and Jim for the lovely place.

Beautiful San Juan mountains lend themselves to all mountain activities. Elk hunting is a big draw to this area as well as snow skiing in nearby Telluride. We are in an uncrowded area with breath taking beauty and full of adventure activities.
