About the property

Plantation-Style Estate - 3 Bedroom, 2.5 Bathroom

The Mother Ocean or Ke Moana Makuahine (in Hawaiian Language)™ is a 2-acre Monkey Pod and Palm Tree-Laden Park with a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath Main Residence. This beautiful, secure and secluded beachfront estate adjoins 270 feet of a private, child-safe, and riptide-free sandy beach. The comfortable back lanai enjoys spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and the island of Lanai. Enjoy a glass of champagne as you sit and watch the sunset or marvel at the thrilling views of breaching humpback whales all day long in the Kalohi Channel between Lanai and Molokai Islands during the winter months. For diving and snorkeling enthusiasts, Hawaii's longest fringing coral reef (30 miles long) lies just over 600 feet from our beach. There you can see all of the sea life living in and surrounding the reef, including Hawaiian green sea turtles. Our private setting also includes your own natural pool with soothing waterfall.

The lush landscape well maintained. The pool cleaned each day. The home was very clean on arrival.

Our experience at The Mother Ocean is best described as magical! The plantation style home so inviting. The beds were so comfy. It was a joy to wake up to the sound of the ocean and enjoy our coffee on the veranda. Many happy hours were spent poolside. We enjoyed the gorgeous landscaping and the water feature. There were plenty of bath and beach towels. The showers were great. One of our favorite spots were the two Adirondack chairs with the ocean view. Watching the sunset over the ocean from the backyard and star gazing were also favorite activities! The Mother Ocean was in a great location. Close to the stores, activities and beaches. Our family enjoyed an amazing vacation and we can't wait to go back!!!

The house is wonderful

  • 5 of 5

The house was amazing and the owner was a dream to work with. She gave great information about how to enjoy Molokai. We are Alaskans and Molokai is much like rural Alaska, limited cell phone coverage, no traffic, zero big chain stores or fast food places. If you want a waiter to bring you a drink poolside, then go shop in a boutique and finish off the night at a big hotel Luau, Molokai is not your place. If you want to chill out, hike, dive, kayak, read a book, play a card game on the Lanai then this is more your speed. The house has every luxury and is a calm, relaxing place with modern comforts while having an "Old Hawaiian" vibe. If you are looking to wind down and get away (which we were), it is awesome.

Great house to relax and whale watch!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful old Hawaii home with all the updates you will ever need, and more!

Beautiful yard and property right on the water, watch the whales, enjoy the grass, and play croquett or fly a kite.

The sofa on the back porch is perfect for a good nap or reading a book.

Only a short drive to the small downtown area, make sure you visit the farmers market on Saturday, lots of great veggies, fruit, crafts and art.

Molokai is a true gem and NOT to be missed!!!

This was a perfect getaway for our family. The house is beautiful. The yard and the ocean views are stunning. You will find that you have rented an oceanfront estate, not just a house. We have young kids and we felt very comfortable having them play on the beach with limited supervision. The reef keeps all the waves offshore and this very shallow and private beach area has almost no wave action. Occasionally the beach could get windy in the afternoons and we would simply move our activities to the more protected pool area.

This was our first time to Molokai and we would love to come back. If your idea of Hawaii is Waikiki Beach, this is probably not the place for you. There are not a lot of tourist centered activities on the island though we were able to arrange a whale watching trip. Mostly we enjoyed exploring the island at a leisurely pace and finding the hidden gems. After a morning of exploring, we would come back and enjoy the warm afternoons poolside or beachside. The house has all the amenities you could need. It's more expensive than most rentals but definitely worth it.

Absolute paradise!

  • 5 of 5

This place was amazing. We had small children and the beach was perfect and always secluded. The reef made the beach kid-friendly with no large waves. We walked on the beach every morning and rarely saw anyone. This place is perfect if you like quiet and relaxation. Town is about 5 minutes away with restaurants and markets for all your needs. We would definitely stay here again. It's absolute paradise!!

Absolutely Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough wonderful things about The Mother Ocean! The home owners are wonderful to work with & totally responsive to all of our questions. We've stayed at 5-star hotels & very expensive rental houses on Hawaii, Kuaii, & Oahu, and The Mother Ocean rivals all of them. The online photos are accurate but somehow do not do it justice. It's furnished with tasteful Colonial Hawaiian-style pieces. The kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, living areas & even the hallway are large & there are windows every where so that breezes can blow through. There is a huge linen closet with towels, sheets, extra blankets, etc. but if you use them all the washing machine and dryer work well. Any sort of cooking implement you need is in the kitchen. The Wifi connection is awesome & the tv room/library/office has all sorts of "office" stuff if you need to work. There are also a TON of movies (alphabetized by title no less) & books. All of my kids wanted their own rooms so one of my sons slept on the pull-out sofa in this room and he was totally comfortable.

The house is located on a beach that is accessed by walking through a HUGE, private grassy yard. Our 3 boys (17, 15 and 11) had a lot of fun playing soccer and football there. There are no waves so the ocean in front of the house would be great for little kids to swim. Since we have big kids we spent our time snorkeling in the pristine reef located a short walking distance from the house-front beach. The kids loved the pool and the yard is stunning. I am an amateur florist and (after checking with the very nice caretaker) I picked a large variety of tropical flowers and made a lovely arrangement with them. The airport and largest town on the island, Kaunakakai, are super close-by. And last but definitely not least, the stargazing from the backyard is amazing because of the lack of city lights.

The island of Molokai is now the family's favorite Hawaiian island. We hiked, surfed, snorkeled & outrigger canoed & still did not do everything we wanted to do. One thing we missed is the guided hike and/or mule ride to Kalaupapa, the island leper colony. There is a rule that to participate in either of those events you must be over 16 years old and one of our children is not. But even if our kids had been old enough we still would not have been able to go because there were no spots available. Plan ahead and make reservations.

We would return to The Mother Ocean in a heartbeat. Mahalo, Julie & Gary
