LOVED Casa Palma!
We loved our 2-week stay at Casa Palma!!! So relaxing and quiet (except for the birds and wildlife), which was amazing! Our hosts, Charlie & Jess, were an absolute delight. We never knew the owners were on-site but they were always available if you had a question or needed a recommendation on local sites to see or their favorite restaurants. Great view and the rental was very comfortable and lovely. Tess & Suzie, their dogs, were absolutely wonderful and sweet. Close to EVERYTHING with easy access. We will be back!!!! PURA VIDA!
Amazing place, delightful hosts, best area of CR
We had a great time and enjoyed meeting many of the local expats, especially our hosts Jes and Charlie.
The house is well appointed, comfortable beds, and good inventory of household furnishings and kitchen supplies. The huge outdoor kitchen is simply wonderful and the covered sitting area overlooking the ocean is a great place to drink morning coffee and read a good book. There is an outdoor waterfall shower that we used exclusively to keep the humidity out of the house. Kathy is the rental agent and she proved to be very accessible, helpful and friendly. She is a long time expat and a remarkable source of local knowledge.
The house has one of the few lap pools in the area and is delightful on a hot CR afternoon. It's a quick drive to three local stores and well over a dozen area restaurants. The huge expat community in Ojochal has supported a wide variety of restaurants, many owned by Ticos and some by expats, all good. There are seven beaches in the immediate area, the best being Villa Leorna where' for the price of a beer you can access a mile long beach.
The house does lack somewhat in privacy as Charlie and Jes live above and they must by necessity walk close by your windows and "space" as they come and go, however they are very cautious not to intrude. And they are great people, we became friends in our two week stay. Best of all, are the two dogs, Tess and Suzie, who will quickly adopt you as their own. One of our best Homeaway rentals ever!
Another great stay at casa palma
We went to Casa Palma last fall and liked it so much that we decided to return this early December. Once again we were extremely pleased by the accommodation and the setting. The outdoor kitchen is perfectly located with views of the mountain, the ocean and the jungle thus offering ample opportunities for birdwatching .
The store and beach are within walking distance as are some restaurants.
The pool is wonderful after a long walk. The hosts are very helpful and kind. We enjoyed the presence of the two dogs and felt very secure at all times. We highly recommend thiis beautiful house.
Home in Ojochal, Costa Rica
Bob and Colleen are delightful and very accommodating. Their home is lovely, clean and a perfect location for our time spent in Ojochal. In addition, the outdoor, waterfall head, shower was the best. In fact, my husband and I only showered outdoors. Great ocean views and close to everything! For the price, you can't beat it! I would highly recommend.
Great tropical retreat!
We spent 6 nights here and found our hosts, Colleen and Bob, to be very accommodating and helpful. This is a gorgeous property. The house was very well equipped with both an outdoor and an indoor kitchen. The outdoor shower was private and refreshing. There are 2 full bathrooms indoors, both with showers as well. We were happy to relax on the covered patio beside the carport. The breeze from the ocean and the overhead fans kept us reasonably cool in the heat. The pool was as warm as a bath tub.
We did not need any AC as there were plenty of fans - both ceiling and standing ones - to keep us cool.
We did need the GPS (Bob provided the coordinates) to find the property and I would not suggest trying to find it in the dark. The driveway is very steep but there was no snow or ice to worry about here! No real need for a 4 wheel drive either!
The owners have two dogs - Tess and Suzy- but they were very friendly to us although they did bark occasionally at the birds and the dogs on neighboring properties. The property is very secure with a gate and with bars on all the windows and doors. We never worried at all about leaving our things in the house.
There are several good restaurants within 5 minutes drive. One is within walking distance - Momma and Poppa's pizza and Italian. Our favorite was the Indonesian place - Ylang Ylang. It was a little more expensive but so good. The flavours were wonderful. 3 course meal with wine for 2 was $100 USD.
We explored the beaches between Playa Dominical and Ojochal and did the Mangrove tour with Kokopelli on the Sierpe river in the Osa peninsula - about 1 hour drive away. It was a highlight of the trip. The Alturas wildlife sanctuary was also a worthwhile stop. Our lunch at the hotel there was great - the Pesto chicken sandwich was a hit with me. Playa Ventanas was only a 5 minute drive away and was great.
We also recommend the sunsets and the meal from both El Castillo and the Bamboo Room. The live music at the Bamboo room was great - Canadian blues artists (Chuck Jackson and Tyler Yarema from the Downchild Blues band and the Powder Blues band) were performing.
Thanks to our hosts for making our stay so relaxing and enjoyable.
Amazing place to stay
This property looked too good to be true on the listing, but it turned out to be even better in reality.
The living area is large, well thought out, and very well maintained. Indoor and outdoor spaces are equipped with every convenience, also games, books about local flora, fauna and history, a huge film library, and more. It's a 20-minute, easy walk to beach, and 10 minutes to a well-stocked grocery and good restaurants; that turns out to be ideal because you're away from highway traffic, and provided with great ocean and mountain views from a beautiful garden, and big pool. You are surrounded by vast green space, full of birds and butterflies.
There are several superb beaches, and outdoor activities very close by. When we visited in late November, we often had these spaces to ourselves.
The hosts live on the property, and they're resourceful and helpful, or as discreet as you want them to be. Their presence, their two lovely dogs, and excellent security provisions will put you at ease during your stay. Many thanks to Bob, Colleen, and Kathy (booking manager) for their hospitality.
Convenient access to highway of less than 1 kilometre and not more than 1.2 kilometres to all of Ojochals best restaurants nearest at 200 metres and 2 to 5 kilometres for choice of 3 beaches gives easy access to all the south pacific has to offer
