Located on the laid back North Shore of St Croix, high above The Sugar Mill, between Salt River Marine Park and the beautiful 'Cane Bay' beach. Many excellent waterfront bars and restaurants close by. The perfect base for exploration of the island, its many beaches, museums, & St George Village Botanical Garden and much more. Excellent ocean view from all rooms with sounds of the lapping waves below.

St Croix is one of Americas best kept secrets, much less commercial than St Thomas but still offering excellent beaches and activities for both the active or relaxing holiday. There are water sports in abundance, scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, sailing, kayaking, surfing, kite surfing. There are so many beautiful beaches on St Croix you would need to stay a month to see them all.

Your hosts Cathie and John live in the main house on site and will happily assist you with current happenings at the time of your visit What to see depending on your preferences and how to get about their beautiful island.

About Cathie Armstrong-Moore

Cathie and John are both British and were fortunate to travel the world in their working years. They took a five year hiatus on their beloved Catamaran 'Ladycat' looking for some where to spend their glory years but it was not to be. It was only after resuming business endeavors & seeking a quick break that they finally found their ideal spot on St Croix.

John was the Facilities Manager at the University of the Virgin Islands until 2016, Cathie is a Tour Guide and Volunteer at the St George Botanical Gardens in the Orchid Nursery and has many orchids around the property.

For many years before finding our home, we vacationed on St Croix; as we became more and more attracted to the place we began renting properties in different part of the island, experiencing the many options available on St Croix until we discovered the North Shore. The camaraderie and laid back life style on this side of the island, with its incredibly good restaurants & wonderful close by beaches and diving facilities, was definitely inviting. Additionally John fell in love with the unique Mediterranean style of our property, high on the hill with Ocean Views, the sound of the lapping waves below, and incredibly cooling breezes blowing through most of the year. Why wouldn't we be happy in this peaceful beautiful location.

What makes this apartment unique

We love the Spanish/Mexican Style architecture of the property, the many arches, the incredible ocean views from many parts of the property and one where we can watch the dive boats on the buoy that is clearly seen from the apartment. We love the amazingly good food at three of the extremely close by restaurants, and the incredible sunsets which can be seen from our home and from Off the Wall, regularly voted the best beach bar in the Virgin Islands. On booking we will email you a map with the direct route from the airport, another showing a more scenic route passing the best supermarket on the island, and another showing all the local bars, restaurants, dive shop, and a list of web sites full of local information on this wonderful island we now call home.

Notes:
Comfortable & completely equipped vacation apartment with through cool breezes; located in a very quiet, sleepy area away from it all yet very close to beaches and centrally accessible for exploring the island or simpy relaxing on the quiet patio. Close to Cane Bay for diving the wall and its excellent beach and kayaking the bio-luminescent in Salt River Bay. Fully equipped kitchen should you wish to leisurely cook your own meals however the location is extremely close to several restaurants that offer wonderful beach front dining AL fresco or leisurely sandwich snacking when you come out of the water! This location offers the flexibility for you to make your holiday relaxing or hectic, it is all up to you and your hosts will happily assist you to quickly become familiar with the wonderful amenities the island offers.

Obsessed

The location of this property was everything. We could explore the whole island without having to travel far. We were able to feel right at home immediately. Our favorite spots were right down the hill and so easily accessible. It was great having the help of Cathie and John should we have needed anything! They made us feel more then welcomed.

Beautiful view, pretty and comfortablel apartment, friendly and helpful owners.

Cathie made sure we had all the information to get there before we left for our trip, and has a binder of maps of nearby restaurants and groceries that is very helpful to get started. She made herself available to us, but certainly was non-intrusive - just right to get the local perspective and still feel the privacy. The location is perfect, because it is nearly in the middle of the North Shore, so it is easy to get to Christensted (east) or Fredericksted (west). It is up away from the ocean, providing a spectacular view without feeling sandy or salty. The weather was bad for a couple of days, but we didn't mind, because the apartment is so pretty and comfortable. The view really was amazing! We ate in quite a bit, because the view and ocean sounds from the balcony were better than many restaurants. Little lizards darted across the rails of the balcony,, a doe and fawn came out of the woods, and the adorable neighbor dog, Bacon, came to visit. The landscaping is also beautiful with many different kinds of flora, even lime trees for fresh limes in your drinks! It was our 20th anniversary, and we were so glad to have the privacy and independence with such beauty around us. We were even greeted by a bottle of champagne (along with their customary Cruzan rum bottle) and a note wishing us a good stay and a happy anniversary. Last, Cathie was very eager to get feedback on how the apartment/stay could be improved, which is always a great sign of dedication to this business. We already want to go back and stay there again!

Perfect getaway for two!

Ocean View is conveniently located to travel to all parts of the island. The apartment has everything you need to enjoy your time in St. Croix, and the owners are absolutely delightful and very helpful. We stayed at Ocean View a year ago, and loved it so much we considered staying no place else when we returned this year. Our favorite time is spent sitting on the patio, looking at the hills and the ocean while enjoying breakfast, lunch, or perhaps a cocktail or two! Great places to eat are very nearby. There is no better place for two people to spend a quiet, relaxing vacation on St. Croix than at Ocean View.

Beautiful location!

We had the pleasure of staying at Ocean View the first week of February. Cathie and John were wonderful hosts. The house was immaculate and extremely well appointed. The proximity to Cane Bay was perfect and we were minutes from many local restaurants. This was our second visit to St Croix and we look forward to our return.

Great place.

This was a birthday celebration and diving vacation for us and we tried to find a place close to Cane Bay Dive shop but also wanted to have ocean view. The big and comfortable terrace has an awesome view of the hills and the water and we enjoyed many mornings with a cup of coffee and evenings with a rum and coke, courtesy of our hosts Cathie and John, which were wonderful and very accommodating. On clear days or nights you can see the islands across the way.

The apartment is just as seen in the pictures, clean, with plenty of towels and linen, fully stocked kitchen as well as beach accessories, and a nice king bed with a view to the water and hills. The free drinking water was much appreciated.

The location is very good, stores are not too far away and to those that come for the diving the dive shop is only 5 minutes drive away.

Couldn't have picked a better place, except for what a previous review said, the road leading up to the house was a bit of a challenge for our little Ford Fiesta.

We also made a little furry friend, when on the second day of our stay Bacon arrived on the terrace, beautiful and happy little dog. We really enjoyed having him around for company, and I know the feeling was mutual. Miss him already.

Overall we had a great time and were extremely happy with our home away from home.

Owner's Response: Thank you Gaby and Richard such fun to have you here’ your help & understanding accommodating Bacon was so appreciated. Never really been a dog lover, always cats; we are still learning & he has turned our lives upside down, however I cannot leave him on his own up the hill he just runs away again. He really just does not want to be left alone any more. I think he has done incredibly well alone from May 1st until now and his owner returns soon so we will keep him until then. Currently he is now a well travelled furry happy dog, dropped off at the University to John when I need to go Grocery Shopping and now also a star at the St George Village Botanical Garden when I volunteer and has followers at a couple of the outdoor restaurants we frequent! All adds to the spirit of life living on St Croix; a beautiful well-kept secret, one of America’s undiscovered treasures. So pleased you enjoyed the welcoming coffee on the patio, also enjoyable in bed looking at the incredible view and what would a Caribbean holiday be without a bottle of the local rum. I am so sorry you arrived after more rain on the hill but so pleased to report that the hill has been graded and rolled and is incredibly smooth. Please see additional comments in the previous review and am also happy to add that The Home Owners Association are arranging to improve the hill further by adding additional drainage culverts to prevent a recurrence. Rust Op Twist is a wonderful area with people who care about where they live. John is in the middle of changing the ceiling bulb in the bathroom so no more flickering and I am putting together a sewing kit and some general first aid items. We keep striving to please and improve “Your Home Away From Home”. Do hope you can find the time to return to our beautiful island and we look forward to receiving some underwater photographs to put on the web site or add to my introduction letter.

Comfortable apartment

We chose Ocean View over the local hotel and condo rental venues. As scuba divers, we prefer staying close to Cane bay to take advantage of the nice wall diving on St Croix. We were nicely surprised by Cathie and John's hospitality. The apartment was very well maintained and homely with same or better amenities than one would expect at hotel properties. The view was wonderful. Also we got free drinking water and rum courtesy to our hosts. The one minor caveat is that getting to the house is an off-road experience which our rental Yaris struggled with due to its low suspension. If you have an SUV or pickup at your disposal, the road will not be an issue.

Owner's Response: Thank you Nikolai it was a pleasure to have you staying with us, and so happy to hear that our laid back casual hospitality is hitting the spot. The apartment maintenance success is always on going and has been achieved with the help of guests; by implementing their sensible contributions and we are very grateful when our Departure Check List is completed and minor things can be addressed immediately. On your departure a new fan was installed in the sitting room. I did drive the hill immediately after receiving your concerns and began discussions with the very loose Home Owners Association while you were here addressing the road damage from the unfortunate bad storm delivering much needed rain just before your arrival. I am happy to advise that the road has now been graded and rolled and thankfully is once more a breeze, Normally road upkeep is done every November. However due to the bad erosion in one area partly exacerbated by an unsuccessful rerouting of a pipe (to improve water flow down the) at a home entrance the normal time table thankfully was moved up. I always encourage guests to explore the island in a vehicle with 4 wheel drive, an SUV or Jeep; mainly because it really is wonderful to be able to explore the Scenic Routes, visit the rain forest and experience the incredible beautiful views. I would point out that not everyone on the hill has an SUV or Jeep, however if unexpected rain arrives they truly do make life more comfortable.
