Why Tracie Cardwell Owner chose Nathrop
We decided to purchase the property because of its location. It rest’s at the bottom of Mt. Antero where in 1952 Grady Cardwell cut the main road to the peaks of Antero and claimed the south knob of the famed Bluestar load claims as seen on the Prospector series on the weather channel. Yearly we prospect and mine for aquamarines and have done so for the last 60 years. Purchasing this property allows us to headquarter for the months we operate.
What makes this House unique
The views from the front deck offer a unique view for any special moment or just relaxing to sooth your soul. The relaxing soaks in the private hot springs hot tub offer the most on this property. The mineral rich water and super-heated minerals have a healing property that date back to the Indians where once a year they would come to the region and soak in the natural hot pools at the base of the mountain to rejuvenate there body, mind and soul.

Nice cabin! Trouble preheating and understanding the oven buttons. Beds are comfy. Soaking in natural hot springs Awesome. Would do it again
Everything was great! Such a lovely home in an even more beutaiful spot.
Wonderful accommodations!!!! Hope we get to come back sometime. The Beaches from Colorado, New Mexico and Texas.
Great size, springs in back was great! Plenty of sleeping space. Walking distance to Mt Princeton
This house was great for our moms getaway weekend, relaxing, close to the springs and Buena Vista, amazing views!
Beautiful location, tranquil hot spring
A perfect location nestled close to Mt. Princeton Hot Springs with great mountain views and a private hot spring soaking pool. We had a lovely time here last weekend and would definitely come back with a smaller group. The common area of the kitchen/dining room/living room was great for games, conversations, cooking, etc. But I would not recommend this house for a group of ten adults because of the sleeping arrangements. This house sleeps 6 adults comfortably in proper double beds. We called the pull out sofa beds (which add four additional sleeping arrangements) the "torture chamber." The pull out beds sloped downward, the matresses were as thin as a sheet, and the bars that supported the bed were horrible. Again, a great rustic, cabin-like home with all the out door perks a group could want, a well stocked kitchen, and wonderful dining room table that seats a large group, but the beds/mattresses need a serious upgrade or a reconsideration of how many grown-ups the house really accommodates at bed time. Also, more towels would be good. If you want a great vacation house for 6 adults with access to river rafting, hot spring soaking, hiking, and visiting the ghost town of St. Elmo, this is a wonderful choice. Make upgrades to the beds and then it would be a welcome place for groups of 8-10. Tracie was cordial and easy to work with. I hope this post helps everyone involved. Thank you to the owners for sharing this perfect location and fun house with us!
We were guests at the house for a week and could not have asked for a better location and rental experience. The house is amazing...the set-up is unique, in that there are 2 separate family areas, both with nice flat-screens and views views views!!! We were there mid-March and had the joy of experiencing snow every evening. Waking up at that house with snow everywhere was amazing. There were so many moments where you catch yourself just staring up at the beauty of Mount Antero and actually seeing the snow blowing on the peak. You've also got direct access to the Chalk Cliffs, which stand right outside the doors to greet you. Deer Deer and more Deer...we saw mule deer every day as we drove around the area and explored and also were greeted by them in the mornings at the house and early evenings, while soaking in the private (grotto-like) hot springs. Amazing is all you can say. We loved the hot springs. By the way, you'll never run out of hot water in this house...was so great!!!
The house was well equipped with all you needed for everyday living. We found a great store in Buena Vista for groceries that even took our Krogers's card from Texas!!! We cooked meals in the house every morning and night and never felt as if we were without. The wi/fi service worked flawless and allowed us to continue running our graphic design business, while away. We didn't watch much TV but they seemed to have every channel possible, so for those who need some TV time, you are set here!!!
We really encourage you to get to know this little mountain community. It's beautiful. We've traveled all over Colorado and stayed in many great places but we've concluded that this area is the best...there is something mysterious about this area that just draws you in. We didn't want to leave--ever. We liked it so much, we're already looking for a return visit soon. Working with the owner is a seamless and flawless experience. She is available to you throughout your stay and has left all kinds of "answers to your questions" out at the house. They are great people to work with and we hope we get to share in their beautiful community and home again soon.
The area is known for Lots of wonderful sight seeing, hiking, mountain biking, ATV tours, Gem hunting on Mt. Antero, fishing, hot springs/ spa, swimming, river rafting, rock climbing, feeding chipmunks in St. Elmo's ghost town just to name a few.
The owners of this vacation property also own, the famed Mt. Antero Aquamarine Gem fields as seen on the Weather Channel Series Prospectors. We specialize in summer mineral tours at the worlds highest mining site in North America at 13,800 feet. The mountain was made famous by the world class Aquamarine Gem Specimens found only in this remote location of north America, which is also the state Gemstone of Colorado.
