About Mary Ellen Sprague
We live in Savannah and love it!
Why Mary Ellen Sprague chose Tybee Island
Wonderful house for family and friend reunions. Plenty of space to be by yourself or enjoy the company of others. Second floor is more like living in a big tree house with its large porches. Very different than your average home.
What makes this House unique
Easy access to Back River with calm waters and fewer people. Great for small children. Easy access to ocean for those who like bigger waves and larger crowds of people. This house is all about having fun!

Great place to enjoy Tybee
My family and I had a great time at our stay. The house is within easy walking distance to the river, beach, restaurants and shops. The house is was large enough for all of us to have our own space and still still get together when we wanted to. The porches were great for relaxing.
Great house, wonderful location
I've stayed in 6 different houses on tybee island and this one has been my favorite by far. The access to the beach from the backyard was amazing!
Unsuitable for Rental
This property left a lot to be desired. There were numerous problems with this property including some that put my family in potential danger. None of which were disclosed to us prior to our arrival. Some of the more concerning ones include the fact that the doors to this house do not lock. Owner claims that they never lock them which is fine for them but I don't believe the owner should have the right to assume their tenants are fine with that. There were floor boards in the upstairs that if stepped on you would break through the floor or a child's foot would get caught. One of the downstairs bedrooms the floor had separated from the frame of the house leaving that room exposed to the outside. Any animal including snakes or raccoons could have crawled into that room and bitten one of the individuals sleeping in that room including a 3 month old baby. We were told the floor had been damaged and not to move the bed but not that the floor had separated from the house. We rented this house a year in advance because we were going from March 14-22. Because St. Patrick's day is the busiest holiday in Savannah everything else was booked and we had no other options available to us. Owner claimed the damage happened from the September 2017 hurricane and they did not have time to make repairs. If that was the case we should have been given other options prior to our arrival but we're not. HomeAway claims they are a clearing house for owners to rent their properties but that they are not responsible for making sure the homes are actually rentable, then who is? I'm sure HomeAway is charging these owners a fee for their service and the owners are charging the renter a fee to use their property but who is looking out for the renter? I guess no one is and you are at the mercy of the owner of the property and if that owner isn't honest then you unfortunately may get a less than desirable vacation rental. This home is in disrepair and should not be rented in its current condition because of potential injuries.
Renter asked that 20 people stay at house although the house only sleeps 14 comfortably. We were nice and allowed her to have a larger than normal house party. The renter did not pay the required damage deposit but then asked for it back at the end of the rental, as well as 50 to 100% of the rent.
The renter never called to complain about any of the items mentioned during her stay. We called her 5 days into the rental because a neighbor had complaints about the renter's cars on her property. Only then did we find out that she had any problems with the property. We attempted to remedy all that we could in the few days remaining. We have since put new locks on the doors, though we have never had any items stolen. We have made further repairs since she left. We had a carpenter inspect the house hours prior to her rental and while he was not able to fix everything, he determined that there was no danger. No one was in danger of falling through a floor. The crack that she mentioned was three inches at its widest.
We have since had another rental. No complaints. We have had an Easter party and a huge pre wedding dinner where twelve people stayed overnight. They loved the house and there were no complaints.
This is an historic house that was built in the late 1920's. It was repainted on the outside last year and a new roof was added two years ago. We added two new pullout sofas in the last year and a new dinning table for the down stairs porch. The house is in good shape and everyone who appreciates a traditional beach cottage loves it.
Another great fall vacation at this house!
This was our 7th year to vacation at this great old Tybee home. It it like going home when we walk onto the screened in porch. We have plenty of room to spread out for gathering and playing, and even secluded areas to get a little privacy or a special nap.The location is perfect for the many different activities my family and friends enjoy on the island. Each morning we have breakfast on the 2nd floor porch. In the evenings we gather for dinner on the 1st floor porch and and share our Tybee adventures of the day. We are already looking forward to next September's vacation at this wonderful Tybee home.
porches were awesome.
We spent most of our late eve and nites on the porches ,the view of the sunset was beautiful. There were 13 of us and we had plenty of room. The kids were able to play as they were spacious enclosed and plenty of seating. The hammocks were a big hit. Definitely would go back, nice proximity to the beach, well stocked house every kitchen appliance and utensil you could think of.We just love the south end of Tybee so quiet and beach.
Thank you! We try hard to please.
Great location lots of room. Well stocked. Enjoyed the porches. But had difficulty with the locks.
Will probably rent it again
