TAVNEENA REVISITED APRIL 2012

Tavneena is not 'Brideshead' of the famous book, but for me, returning

to it after a very long absence was an unique experience. It was my

home until I was 18 years of age, and my entire universe for most of

that time! I know I am prejudiced, but for anyone who wants to get

away to a quiet holiday in the country, while still within reach of

the main attractions of the West, it is ideal.

The house is very comfortable, bright, and spacious; well equipped

with all the necessary appliances throughout. If you like an open

fire, there is plenty of turf, and there is good reception for TV.

The front garden is ideal for barbecues or just relaxing in the sun.

The country air is filled with the smell of honeysuckle, new-mown hay,

and turf fires.

The only sounds to disturb you are those of the cuckoo, the curlew, a

cock crowing, or a dog barking in the distance.

The proprietress, Marion, lives at a short distance, and is very

thoughtful and accommodating - milk in the fridge when you arrive -

turf fires set, and the house well heated - just to mention two

things!! She is familiar with the area, and can advise on places to

visit. She will ensure that your stay will be as enjoyable as

possible.

I love to think that my old home can give joy to visitors - and I hope

that many will make it their base for visiting the west of Ireland.

You will not be disappointed.

A great place to stay in Co. Mayo

  • 5 of 5

We, seven adults and a well-behaved dog, stayed at Tavneena House for a week in July. It was all that we wished for – clean, tidy and well-equipped, with good beds and generous-sized rooms with a comfortable feel to them. There was a large, enclosed garden to the front with ample parking space for several cars.

Situated in a rural area, but less than 10 minutes’ drive from Knock airport, Charlestown and all major roads, it is an ideal base for relaxing and sight-seeing.

From the start, communication with Marion couldn’t have been better. On our arrival, she was there with Richard to greet us, show us around and answer questions. The fires had been laid, the baskets were full of turf and they had thoughtfully provided us with milk, bread, beer, wine and other sundries. There was plenty of tourist information, both local and from further afield, which was very helpful.

We had a very enjoyable week at Tavneena House and would certainly recommend a stay there. A lot of thought has gone into providing guests with a “home from home” whilst maintaining the character of this lovely old house.

Thank you Marion and Richard!

Beautiful and relaxing Stays

  • 4 of 5

We hired the house with 4 adults and 3 kids (between 2,5 and 6,5 year) for 2 weeks beginning august.

The welcome by Marion was very heartwarming.

The house had all comfort we needed. The beds have a good quality, we slept very well.

The house was spacy enough for us and the neighbors were very friendly (as we noticed all people over there)

The kids played a lot in the garden and also went walking and picking raspberries.

There was a fireplace to warm up after a rainy day.

The kitchen has a dishwasher, microwave and oven to cook some good Irish rib eye or sausages.

In charlestown there is Spar for shopping and some restaurants for take away.

The place is also central for visiting Cliffs of Moher, Sligo, Westport, Conemara,...

We all came to rest over there and went back home without stress.

Absolutely Picturesque!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I flew into Shannon Airport and drove to the Tavneena house early Thursday morning on June 16th 2016. Marion met us at the door for a quick tour of the house- and let me tell you the pictures don’t do it justice, this place is huge! The rooms were large, clean and beds comfortable and warm. There is a working fire place in the kitchen and two large bathrooms- everything spotless!

I can’t say enough nice things about Marion, her level of customer service far exceeded any expectations I had before our meeting. Marion had a few food sundries waiting for us, which was very much appreciated after our early morning drive from the airport. I had quite a few questions before our arrival and Marion was very prompt in responding to every question and concern.

I could write paragraphs about the amazing time we had in Ireland, me and my family will definitely be returning, and I would 100% recommend the Tavneena house to anyone looking for a house rental in Ireland. We will definitely be back!!

Charmante et bien située

  • 4 of 5

Fantastic house

  • 5 of 5

We stay at Tavneena house from 12th August until 28th August. The house is very comfortable, bright and spacious, well equipped and there was plenty of turf to do a fire every night when we got "home" after our excursions.

Marion couldn´t have been more welcoming to us, we arrived late and the house was very warm which was very gratefull after a full day of travelling, she also left some milk, butter, wine, beers in the fridge for us. She was also very helpfull by sending us tourist information before we arrived to Ireland helping us to arrange our visit before we got there.

I would recommend a stay at Tavneena house for losts of reasons, but specially because it´s a very good base for exploring the west couast of Ireland and Knock airport is only 5 minutes from the house.

Thank you again for a fantactic stay in Ireland.

Family from Australia, with relatives Ireland

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have been more pleased with Tavneena house on a recent stay in Ireland. We have often been to Ireland visiting friends and family, staying in B&B's and hotels. The stay at Tavneena superseded all of our previous visits.

Marion couldn't have been more welcoming to us. We felt like we were coming home. The house was lovely and clean, without being too fussy, so the kids could enjoy the stay without being afraid of touching anything. There was plenty of turf for the open fires which we lit every day, even though it was summer. The house is fully equipped with everything you need, so all you need do is get off the plane with your suitcase of clothes. The kids loved the house with it's massive bedrooms, upstairs and downstairs and big front garden. The washer/dryer was invaluable on those rainy summer days. We stayed for 9 days and friends and family came from all over Ireland to see us. Marions rates were very reasonable, and she even provided us with some milk for tea and a bottle of wine when we arrived. We enjoyed walks through the tiny village and through fields of our family's farms and all the locals were delightful.

I would recommend a stay at Tavneena House. It is so relaxing and peaceful. We certainly intend to stay again on our next visit to Ireland.

JB & VB from Australia
