Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Vaulted Ceilings, Sleeps 3, Fully Equipped Kitchen

Wasabi Cottage is ideal for a couple but will easily accommodate three. It is airy and light with views of Mount Baker, Saratoga Passage, and the rooftops of Langley. We regularly receive raves for our attention to detail, easy-on-the-eyes decor and that squeaky-clean feeling.

And yes, we are fully equipped. You'll find a modern kitchen with, besides many obvious utensils and pans, a convection oven/microwave, gas cook-top, and dishwasher. But we don't forget to offer amenities like a coffee grinder, french press, (organic Fair Trade coffee beans and half-and-half included), Brita water filter, and sparkling water. There is a private bedroom (very comfy queen size bed) with its adjoining bathroom (shower and tub), ceiling far-infrared radiant heater and, for your convenience, a washer/dryer. Of course there is also a 24-7 Wi-Fi signal.

If the evening or morning is cool, enjoy warming yourselves in front of the propane pot belly stove in the living room. Or stand and gaze through French doors at a sunrise over the Cascade mountains. In the open but very private loft with its lovely window view of Puget Sound, Camano Island and Mount Baker, find a comfortable twin bed, relaxing chair and writing desk. Or, pick your place on the wraparound deck, sip your first freshly brewed 'cuppa' and enjoy the view of town roofs fading to a water/mountain view. If it's raining, relax on the deck with your day's end glass of wine without worry: the deck has an extensive covered portion that keeps your table and chairs bone dry.

About Flay Wahl

We are Mark and Flay Wahl and we've lived on Whidbey Island for 27 years in the same home where we raised our youngest daughter who freely “occupied” the village with her “tribe” of friends. (She is presently a Seattle resident.) We are now enjoying the island with our son, daughter-in-law and three lovely grand-daughters.

Over the years, we have come to know and love the Whidbey community and the charm of our Langley village. We know many families, unique island dwellers, and secret magical spots on Whidbey. Mark is a math educational consultant and Flay has retired from a practice of massage therapy and teaching Process Painting. She has devoted her visual-spatial talents and energies to creating the fine and comfortable feel of this cottage. Our nearby yard is a visual treat as well thanks to Flay's green thumb and love of gardening.

Flay Wahl purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Flay Wahl chose Langley

Our life on Whidbey has brought us into contact with many happy visitors who appreciate the island’s unique community and natural settings. We have wanted for years to build a cottage that can be used by friends, relatives and guests as they enjoy “our” island. Finally, in 2012, we put our creative energies and work toward this with the guidance and sweat of a talented and able contractor-friend. Flay has a knack for making a place homey and for helping people to feel at home and this has found expression through our wonderful cottage.

What makes this cottage unique

This cottage has the unique quality of accessing a lively small village with its community life and amenities, all within a 2- 5 minute walk, while at the same time being on a quiet, elevated street with a view of mountains, water and the rooftops of that village. It is a brand new cottage designed by the owners with much care to provide guests with a feeling of restful ease and comfort.

Great cottage, great hostess

  • 5 of 5

We stayed four nights for a music festival. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. It was also well stocked with some thoughtful extras. The location is in town on a quiet street so there are many restaurants and shops within a short walk. The only suggestion we have is to stock the cottage with a good chef's knife. We realize this can be a challenge since some guests don't know how to care for knives.

Fabulous Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Wasabi Cottage. While it was our first, it won't be our last! The cottage is amazing! It has all you need and so much more; a space to be, relax, recharge. I wish I could call this place my home!! It's very quiet, has beautiful views and a lovely deck from where to enjoy them. It's in walking distance to downtown Langley with beautiful stores and a lovely beach stretch; and I bet also restaurants but the cottage was so inviting that we cooked and enjoyed all our meals there.

Flay and Mark are wonderful and respond quickly to inquiries. Their handwritten welcome card and yummy organic chocolate, a bottle of San Pellegrino, organic cream and delicious coffee beans made us feel very welcome. We will be back!!

Wonderful!

I really wanted to leave you a note saying how much we enjoyed our anniversary weekend. But we kind of rushed out of there. Thank you so much for all the treats and the lovely house to stay in, we would love to come back soon.

Wasabi Cottage was everything I was hoping for

  • 5 of 5

This delightful cottage was just perfect for my two week stay in Langley this August.

Just minutes away from the shops restaurants other places and people who make Langley so special it contained everything I needed and didn't need.

It was hot outside however the house remained comfortable and in the evening with the windows open it cooled very quickly.

Whether lying on the very comfortable bed reading a book sitting on the couch with eyes shut or at the kitchen bar catching up with all that was happening in the world and my Tasmania it was a perfect place to relax unwind and enjoy.

I will return again next year for another 2 weeks and am already looking forward to it.

Thank you Flay and Mark

Superb place to rest while in Langley

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely home! We had a wonderful, peaceful and relaxing stay at the Wasabi Cottage in mid July. We were honestly astonished at the cleanliness and newness of the house. It looked like we were the first people to stay there! Well stocked, we lacked for nothing.

Cannot thank you both enough, we had a MARVELOUS time. Trying to plot and scheme another visit to Langley so we can stay again. hot tips: New restaurant in town called 'Saltwater' apparently owned by our favorite Langley restaurant folks at Prima Bistro was a delightful lunch experience. other tip--if you eat breakfast (and who doesn't?!) the Braeburn is delicious and WELL worth the short wait!
