About Mikelle Kruger

Our family has been coming to Marfa since 2009. We love the vast desert landscape, blue Texas sky, and drippy golden light.

Mikelle Kruger purchased this apartment in 2013

Why Mikelle Kruger chose Big Bend Country

The Marfa Boarding House is a family home. With four kids, this property was unique as it boasted seven bedrooms plus a casita. We love this house and have gone to great lengths to make it a home!

always enjoy the boarding house casita

  • 5 of 5

we have stayed at the boarding house casita numerous times and always find it enjoyable. very minimal, great setting, and enjoy being on the north side of town. great for a single person or couple. we bring our bikes which makes the short trip into town very easy.

Overall great stay

  • 4 of 5

Overall a great stay! Just there for one night but casita is very cute and in a good location. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the shower wasn't working correctly but still managed :)

100 percent relaxation!

Cozy quiet casita on the outside of town. Amazing waking up to the beautiful horse pasture across the street. Will definetly book this casita again when I'm in town!

Second great stay at Marfa Boarding House Casita

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at the Casita. As before it was clean, comfortable, charming. The owner is very easy to deal with.

We love the property and location. We take our bikes and everything, including Chinati, is a 5-7 minute bike ride away.

It is well appointed with everything you need but nothing more. The bathroom is large, with plenty of soft, luxe towels.

We would definitely stay here again.

Great space and location

  • 5 of 5

We come out to Marfa frequently and this was one of the best places we have stayed. Perfect for two people. Clean, nicely appointed with a small kitchen and fridge. The grounds are nice with plenty of outdoor seating. We would definitely come back.

Lovely peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

The casita is a wonderful spot: perfectly styled, convenient to town, nice and quiet, and with a glorious bath tub! Both the owner and caretakers are helpful and easy to communicate with should you need anything. It's stocked with all the essentials and has great spaces for relaxing either indoors or out. A perfect getaway for 2, or would be an excellent group vacation if combined with the larger house on the property. Although the nearby house was occupied during our stay, the casita still felt very private.

One note: if you plan to visit in the winter or during the colder months, pack your fuzzy slippers and some warm sweaters. There are space heaters (and bedding is definitely sufficiently warm and cozy), but the cement and tile floor and adobe walls that give the space so much of its charm also remain pretty chilly to the touch when the temperature drops really low.

Couldn't say enough good things about Marfa, the folks who live there, the food, the landscape, and the overall creative vibe. We enjoyed a cozy breakfast at Do Your Thing, a great lunch at Comida Futura, a lovely dinner at Cochineal, and of course a late night grilled cheese. The tours of Donald Judd's studios are definitely worth checking out, and a fun afternoon was had just walking all around town and poking our heads into the various shops and studios. Don't forget to take a short drive outside of town to enjoy an amazing desert sunset!
