About Dr Richard & Karyn Conrath

We love Sanibel and that is clear in the way we maintain our property. We will make sure it is always clean, neat, and in the best shape for our guests to enjoy. We provide a surprise gift package suited just for you upon your arrival. You can call us at any time & we'll work to help fill your needs. We live 30 minutes away so we are here for you.

Dr Richard & Karyn Conrath purchased this cottage in 1994

Why Dr Richard & Karyn Conrath chose Sanibel

Sanibel Island is a unique setting and has something for everyone. We bought this property in 1994 & have been renting it ever since. Since we are so close to the beach and on the east end of the Island, we have a unique location and large lot with lovely backyard. Lots of birds to watch. Outdoor seating. Big tree in backyard for resting on the chaise lounge and reading. Private, away from the touristic area.

What makes this cottage unique

Live with the native islanders on a residential street. Five minute walk to a practically private beach. The east end & Lighthouse Point is considered to be the most desirable place on the island according to many. The easy on/off island location makes travel simple. Bike everywhere. Stroll down the little wooden bridge at the end of our road & watch the dolphins. Fish at nearby pier & grille your catch at home.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I'm a biased reviewer because we there for lots of family reunions. However, since we are waiting for reviews from new guests we wanted to provide you with info about the other side of this duplex listed on www.vrbo.com/123318- it will give you a wealth of info about us, the area and the overall view of the east end of the island. This is our way to tell you about Sanibel & Captiva Islands: voted best place to go in US and World & best beach in the US by Frommer's AND top destination by Conde Naste, biggies in the travel industry rating world. Be sure, once you read about the island and things to do, you won't want to miss the opportunity to visit alone, with your family or on a romantic get-away

Best 28 Days Ever...

  • 5 of 5

Unplug, unwind, and relax. I could not have chosen a better cottage to achieve this goal. The cottage itself is absolutely adorable. It is small and cozy and had EVERYTHING you could possible need. You literally just need to bring your bathing suit and rent a bike. You can bike to just about anywhere your legs can pump you to. The location of this cottage is, in my opinion, PERFECT. You are midway between the beach and the bay. It is a quiet street that is unpaved, which adds to the allure. The beach is basically "private". We barely saw anyone there. It was as if we owned it.

A short stroll down the beach and you are at the Lighthouse Park. It is rich in history and full of beauty. The shells are amazing.

The weather was wonderful. We had sun almost everyday. The occasional storms are short, a nice reprieve, an sight to behold. What comes after even better! The shells that wash up are unbelievable.

I do not have one negative thing to say about the cottage or Karyn and Richard the owners. They were wonderful. I did not get to meet them, but they were available immediately should you need anything. Wonderfully attentive and caring, is the only way to describe them. They love their cottage and probably their guests more, and it shows.

If you are looking for a low-key and relaxing vacation, look no further. This is the cottage for you.

Owner's Response: WOW! (Do you think anyone will believe a guest wrote this review and that it was not written by the owner?) Thank you so very much for that rave review. You definitely "get it"... the Sanibel vibe, the beach, the comfort of our cottage, the island beauty -- the whole kit-and-kabbudle. And I'm so glad you took advantage of the biking and bike rentals on the island: Renting a bike is easy - they'll even drop it off for you! Many of our past guests don't keep a car on the island -- they bike everywhere! I know you said you want to come back again next year. (When you do, this time I promise we'll meet! ) Thank you for the lovely comments. We're so glad you visited us.

Classic Sanibel

  • 5 of 5

We looked forward to our stay at Seagrape Cottage. We were completely satisfied with our accommodation. Wood flooring in the entry, kitchen & hall areas. Thick comfy carpet in bedrooms & living areas. Screened porch in back, overlooking a shaded yard complete with picnic table & patio dining set. The cottage is on a quiet street, with friendly neighbors, and a 4 minute walk to the beach.

The hosts, Richard & Karyn are friendly and ready to help make the time in Sanibel time well spent. Greeted with a personal message and a bottle of wine upon arrival, a basket of brochures to guide one to places of interest or places to rent supplies, buy groceries, and eat, contact from Karyn to make sure we had all we needed made us feel comfortable and cared for.

Pots, pans, cutlery, bowls, everything needed to cook or clean is provided. Plenty of bath towels, beach towels, bed linens, blankets, placemats, plates, bowls glassware, are right at hand. Blender, toaster, coffeepot, tea kettle are handy.

Breakfast at the picnic table with grandkids, watching butterflies and birds fly past. Listening to an owl two mornings, or the tokay gecko calling from somewhere near. Walking to the beach, two or three times a day, or to the Lighthouse Cafe, Sporty Seahorse, or Pinnochios. Seagrape Cottage is near enough to everything to be convenient, but away from the crowd on the quiet end of the island. The lighthouse and pier are less than a half mile away.

Seagrape Cottage is a home away from home, a sanctuary with the right amount of property to building, allowing for wildlife such as rabbit, turtle, Pileatedwoodpekers, butterflies, ibis, cardinals and others to be seen from porch or outdoor table. Outdoor hoses and showers make beach cleanup easy. We had company in and out, our grown children, grandchildren, parents, and other relatives and friends, all had a wonderful time.

We wholeheartedly recommend Seagrape Cottage to any who relish a do-it-yourself vacation done in style, in classic Sanibel style.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your wonderful review, Hans/Amanda. I appreciate the way in which you provide guests searching for a home feel comfortable and safe in what property they are renting and from whom. It makes the new vacation renter "explorer" feel like it's going to be not only "all right" but actually just great. I hope you will come back again & again. You are two of our favs and always welcome back! Karyn & Richard

We love this island and we love our great hosts.

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough about this wonderful beach cottage. We were delighted to have the opportunity to visit Sanibel from British Columbia and will come back as many times as we can.

Our hosts, Karen and Richard, are the perfect couple for new visitors to the southwestern Gulf of Mexico in Florida. They explained everything to us about what to do, where to go for dinner, where to hire a fishing charter and where to fetch our rental bicycles. The house is large enough for a long stay and we had everything we needed to live for a month in comfort. We are all ready planning our next holiday in their beach cottage. Thank you for making our trip the perfect one. We will do it again next year now that we know the island and what it has to offer.

Once Again

  • 5 of 5

Once again, I enjoyed the month of March at Seagrape Cottage, home away from home. The cottage has everything you need - - - bath towels, beach towels, fully supplied kitchen, washer/dryer, beach chairs, and quick follow-up from Karyn and Richard. I like returning to the friendly, familiar, and comfortable Seagrape Cottage. I look forward to my return visit in 2017.

Becky and Sadie

P.S. Even Sadie recognizes as a familiar and safe place.

A fabulous family vacation in a lovely beach cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Seagrape Cottage in October 2015 and was delighted with everything! The furnishings are comfortable and have a very beachy feeling - perfect for the island setting. The cottage was clean and neat. Even though it is an older cottage, the owners keep it looking pleasant and well cared for. We could easily see how much they love Sanibel and their beach house.

And the location could not be beat: it is on a small path that leads to a secluded beach (a very pleasant 5-minute stroll). I know Sanibel is known for its gorgeous beaches, and this location lived up to the natural splendor we were hoping to find.

Karyn and Richard (the owners) are great. They did everything they could to make me, my wife, and my two children as happy as possible. They went way over the top for sure. How many owners of homes would leave a personalized basket of goodies for their guests? They even left us special items for my children. Such a welcomed and thoughtful surprise for us all.

I highly recommend this property, and we'll most certainly be back in Oct. next year.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much! With two toddlers, you didn't need to worry about restaurants in the early morning. You had pancakes and bacon on the screened porch every day and used our large yard for barbequing, picnics, tricyle-riding and hula-hooping!! The kids loved running through the water sprinkler too! Being in a residential area and knowing that the street is safe and only five minutes from the beach, the kids were always ready to play and swim within a minutes notice. Of course, you were always close enough to get home for naps and meals too. It's certainly is a kid-friendly cottage. Watching the sunsets on the beach with a glass of Pinot must have made for a romantic setting since we may get to meet the newest addition to the Scott family this October. Having you return all the way from Palo Alto, California to our cottage is a wonderful tribute to Sanibel and Captiva Islands. Thank you and congratulations on your family's growth! (Maybe it'll be a girl this time! ;) See you soon!

A beautiful, relaxing home away from home. We spent theweekend with my family and had an amazing time. The hosts are so accommodating, the house was so clean, and the beach at the end was the icing on the cake.

Owner's Response: You are one of my favorite guests ever! We loved seeing you and your family swimming and sunning your way through the gentle island afternoon. How about that dolphin family you saw! We are so happy that you'll be back in a few months and we'll definitely have a glass of sweet tea with you all again! Thanks for the great review, Danielle.

Car: not necessary

When you cross the causeway, you can go west (right) and find lots of traffic, especially in season. But once you're on and you turn left, you'll be happy to see very little traffic and even less tourist traffic because you are heading to the more residential area of the island. Sanibel is the home to artists, writers, creative people, intellectuals, and down-home islanders. The tourists are international as well as from Canada and the US. We are a friendly group and you will find help and politeness everywhere you go. There's lots to do on our islands of Sanibel and Captiva. It can be relaxing with lots to do for kids and adults. It's romantic and family-friendly too. Everyone is welcome.
