Why Anne Larson chose Southern

We fell in love with the Village House when my parents stayed there while visiting our family. When the house came up for sale, we jumped at the opportunity to own such a charming property, and we have enjoyed sharing it with our friends, family, and guests ever since.

What makes this house unique

When the Village House was completely gutted and renovated, thoughtful attention was given to adding modern comfort while maintaining the original character of this historic house. One of the best features of the home is that each bedroom has a full, private bath so no one has to share. In addition, there is another half-bath right off the kitchen. The outdoor spaces are equally inviting, especially the patio and pergola which is surrounded by gardens and our favorite spot to enjoy wine-time while watching the sun set behind the bluffs. We especially love the exposed brick walls on the interior of the house and the high ceilings and tall windows.

We are inspected and licensed by the MN Dept. of Health.

Comfort Plus!

  • 5 of 5

We had a terrific stay at this lovely house in Winona. All of the bedrooms had private baths and were well-appointed. The 1st floor bedroom was a handicapped accessible room so that would be a big plus for someone needing that type of accommodation. The main floor living room was large with a combined dining area easily accommodating a large group. The second floor also had a smaller living room area with a TV and comfy seating. A bonus on the main floor was a small office room which would be especially convenient for someone on vacation but needing to work remotely for part of the time. The wifi was good. The house is located across the highway from St. Mary's University college grounds so walking and running paths were easily accessed. We found a tunnel under the highway to the college so no problems with worrying about crossing a busy highway. In some of the upstairs bedrooms the highway traffic noise was occasionally obtrusive. The house is very convenient to just about anywhere in Winona and close to a shopping center with a large grocery. We were only sorry we didn't have a range and oven, but made do with the microwave. We would definitely rent this place again.

Another relaxing, comfortable, great stay at the Village House!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful to be able to rent a home for all 8 of us as we come down for a relaxing weekend of Shakespeare, good food and company. Accommodations continue to be quite comfortable. We were able to make a couple of meals as well-even though no stove/oven cooking. The house is spacious yet a warm atmosphere for just sitting around an talking together.

We were not able to find cutting boards in the kitchen to cut things like vegetables, bread. This would be the only "complaint" for the weekend!

Anne was very helpful and kind as usual!

We plan to come back! Thank-you so much.

Beautiful home

We stayed here while we attended a wedding in Winona. Here are my thoughts. First of all, the place is very very clean. I think the most important thing! Real comfortable bedding and felt cozy and relaxing. Good value, and you wouldn't be disappointed.

Loved it!

  • 4 of 5

I have stayed at the Village House Inn many times and have absolutely loved it! Our group was a little disappointed to see that the continental breakfast is no longer provided and the Kureig coffee maker was no longer there. : ( However, the place was immaculate and close to EVERYTHING.

One thing that has been a bit of an issue is the traffic passing the house at night on County Road 14. It can be quite noisy so make sure to bring your ear plugs!

Owner's Response: When we switched from a B&B to a vacation rental, we lowered our rates and discontinued our continental breakfast. However, we're always happy to provide a continental breakfast for an additional fee. Just let us know!

Historical Charm

  • 5 of 5

We love this house!! I remember the first time we walked in, felt like 'home'. Convenient to everything in Winona and surrounding areas. We stay here with adult siblings. Each couple has their own bathroom and we enjoy the common spaces to sit and visit. Very relaxing.
