Turkey Rock Retreat is a beautiful mountain home with spectacular views of Turkey Rock and the Rocky Mountains beyond. Turkey Rock Ranch Estates is a community named for the dramatic red rock formation that sits high above its valley. The area is well known to technical rock climbers. It is located one hour from Colorado Springs, two hours from Denver and Breckenridge and a scenic drive to over one hundred Colorado tourist attractions.
Turkey Rock Retreat is perfect for all seasons. During the summer months hiking, fly fishing at Deckers, rock climbing and exploring the nearby Pike National Forest keep those who look for adventure busy. For those needing a restful vacation there are many options other than reading and bird watching, such as taking a drive in the gorgeous Rocky Mountains or shopping and wine tasting in the quaint nearby mountain town of Woodland Park. Regardless, the perfect way to end the day is settling in on the expansive deck enjoying the peace and quiet as the sun sets behind the mountains. Summer nights in Colorado can be cool so be sure to bring a sweatshirt so you’ll be comfortable as you take in the night sky and the constellations that shine bright at 8,500 feet. During the winter months temperatures vary. There have been days in December when the thermometer reads sixty degrees in the sunshine. But on the days when the temperature drops, the snow is falling and the valley below is a blanket of white the flames in the wood burning stove make for a day spent inside perfect. Knowing a warm fire and a cup of hot chocolate is waiting for you after sledding, snowshoeing or a long day of skiing fills the heart with happy anticipation.
This beautiful mountain home truly is a retreat and the perfect getaway. It is situated on a cul de sac overlooking pine and aspen trees, Turkey Rock and the mountains beyond. The main level with the open floor plan, a wall of windows facing the awesome view, along with the wood burning stove, leather furniture and a table that seats six comfortably makes for the perfect gathering place. A fully stocked kitchen, a spacious bedroom with a queen size bed and a large full bathroom with an extra-long tub finish this level. Upstairs and open to the spectacular view is the loft where you’ll find a full size bed, and futon and a TV and DVD player. The lower level is a walkout and fully finished. You’ll find a comfortable chair in the reading nook, a gigantic sectional couch, a 60” flat screen HDTV, games and puzzles and a table on which to play them in the living area. The full bathroom has a glass enclosed rain shower with a slate surround. Another spacious bedroom with a queen size log bed has fantastic natural light coming from the large egress window and a flat screen TV. The laundry room has a washer, dryer and utility sink for your convenience. The view from the lowest level of our home is just as lovely as the main level.
The deck is off the kitchen and great room. It has seating for eight and a gas grill. And was it mentioned it has a spectacular view?
There are approximately seven miles of unpaved roads to reach Turkey Rock Retreat. They are well-maintained by Douglas and Teller Counties year round.

Although in the midst of quiet and solitude nearby you’ll find some of Colorado’s best attractions: Woodland Park, Gold Camp Road, Historic Cripple Creek, Manitou Springs and the Penny Arcade, Pikes Peak - hike the 13 mile trail to the top, drive the highway or ride the Cog Railway, Garden of the Gods, Seven Falls, North Pole Amusement Park, United States Air Force Academy, Olympic Training Center, Florissant Fossil Beds, Coors Tour, Red Rocks Amphitheater, Heritage Square, 16th Street Mall & LoDo in Denver, Breckenridge Ski Area and so many more to explore.
We live in Colorado Springs and have enjoyed having a vacation home for years. After we lost our one-room cabin near Lake George in the Hayman Fire of 2002, we were fortunate to have the opportunity to purchase the land at Turkey Rock. We used Structural Insulated Paneling (SIP) construction which is known for high energy efficiency. We chose every material and color and built most of the cabin interior ourselves. We have spent many years enjoying our mountain home. Up until recently, it was used only by our family members. After friends inquired about the possibility of their friends using our home as a much needed retreat we realized we wanted to share the blessing of feeling refreshed in a short amount of time. We sincerely hope you enjoy our home as much as we do!
Sharon Sloan purchased this cabin in 2005
The location of the property is perfect and the view spectacular.
Rest, quiet, peace, comfort and beauty.
This cabin was way beyond our expectations. It is secluded with plenty of privacy and great views of turkey rock as well as surrounding mountains. The cabin is also very clean and nice. We will surely be returning!!!
I just really wanted to alliterate in my title. The cabin is really very nice, and cute just is too cutesy for it. As far as cozy, the cabin is very spacious for 4 people (2 adults, 2 children). We had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy "quiet", as quiet as life with a 5 & 6 year old can get you. I loved walking out on the deck for coffee in the morning, and if you get up early enough, you won't hear too many of the neighbors. It really is a busy community. One morning I could hear a mountain lion calling across the valley. It sounded like a large cat caught in a trap. This didn't deter us from going up Turkey Rocks, we just made sure we were hyper aware of the surroundings. We also hiked on the public land behind the cabin. The kids really liked all the hiking we were able to do. If you're in the mood for a drive to the Royal Gorge, it's only about an hour away, but there is a lot to do in the Woodland Park area, too. The location of this cabin makes day trips very easy. We stopped at Seven Falls on the way out of town. That is a sight to see for sure!
Getting to the cabin is a trek, and you really need to make sure you have a 4WD vehicle. Also, as others have mentioned in reviews, this cabin is lacking internet or cell phone connection. This was fine for us, because we didn't really want connection to the "real" world. One negative aspect that can be remedied, we believe, is a sewer smell that is most likely the septic system needing to be flushed. After a shower at night, it was impossible to keep the windows open to enjoy the fresh cool evening air. The septic tank was most likely too full, which just needs a good cleaning at least once a year.
Nevertheless, I highly recommend the cabin if you can get up 4-5 steps to the entrance (not ADA compatible). It's a beautiful view across the valley, and there's a lot to do and see. We had a wonderful time.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It was better stocked with minor food items and dishes and utensils than any cabin we had stayed at before. We will definitely plan a return visit the next time we go to Colorado.
Our family stayed at Turkey Rock retreat in August 2016 and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The cabin has everything you need to have a great getaway (except for wifi... In case that matters). The cabin is situated in a great spot in Turkey Rock Ranch Estates, with a great view of Turkey Rock. I'll touch on a few things about the cabin and the area.
The cabin can easily sleep six and probably more. Our kids slept in the loft while we took the bedroom on the ground floor. The walkout basement has another bedroom, bath and game/movie area. Even in the summer, we were able to keep the cabin comfortable by opening up the windows and cranking up the fans. The crisp mornings on the deck were awesome. We utilized the kitchen to cook breakfast most mornings and used the grill one night. The kitchen has just about everything you'll need to prepare most basic meals, including some spices. There were a few TVs that receive over-the-air TV and cataloged movies. I personally enjoyed some of the old magazines from the WWII era. Some minor issues we had were with ants and the water heater. We were a little surprised with how quickly the hot water depleted. We also battled some large black ants getting in the ground level bathroom. We sprayed some Raid and that seemed to solve the issue for our stay. I received word that the owner was going to have that addressed by having the home treated.
The Turkey Rock Ranch Estates is really a great little area. It requires driving on about seven miles of dirt roads, but that is part of the charm. There are tons of deer and other wildlife to enjoy. The marked walking trail next to the ponds is a must. The only regret our family has was not allowing for more time spent at the cabin and exploring the surrounding area.
We'll definitely consider this cabin again in the future.
We stayed at Turkey Rock retreat in July 2016 and had a wonderful time. The dirt road leading to the house is well-maintained, and although there are a few hairy turns, it was very navigable (for us, in summer). Neighbors were friendly and warned us about active bears when we were out walking. Comfortable beds, well-equipped bathrooms and kitchen (so great to have coffee and shampoo in case we forgot ours, and there were even eggs and bacon, although I suppose those might have been left by a previous guest). We enjoyed the large deck with great views of Turkey Rock; we didn't use the fire ring (fire circle?) but were glad it was there. At night, the stars were in full view--more than any of us had seen in a long while.
We had a great lunch in the nearby town of Woodland Park (although I'm not sure our waiter had ever met a vegetarian before), did some hiking, went to Wines of Colorado and Pikes Peak Winery, and in general really enjoyed our time away.
We had the most enjoyable stay at this cabin. Our 2 families with young children all slept comfortably. The kids loved the basement space - so many games, movies, and pure comfort. Everything was clean, well stocked, and felt like home. The deck was a phenomenal space to relax each morning and evening. It had lots of area right out the back door to explore, and we met the neighbor who was so kind and a joy to meet. We even found out that a family from our hometown owns a cabin near by! We saw deer every morning, and enjoyed the firepit at night. The views were sooooo amazing. Absolutely beautiful. It was close to the tourist attractions that we wanted to see in the Springs area, yet well off the beaten path so that we were able to unwind and truly relax. We all LOVED that there was no WiFi or cell service - exactly what we needed to disconnect and find rejuvenation. The property managers were wonderful - very responsive and answered all our questions. We are certainly going to keep this as a favorite and plan to return again!
