About the property

4 Bedroom Beach House With Magnificent Sunset Views

If you are thinking enjoying an unforgettable vacation surrounded by the ocean, peace, space, amazing sunrises and incredible sunsets; progreso, Yucatan is a great option!!!

Villa 'los cantaritos' is a colonial Mexican style house with 4 rooms in one level with almost 70 feet (20 meters) beachfront. This house is located in a great spot between progreso and chixchulub port.

This part of Yucatan peninsula is one of the Mexico´s safest beach locales and the favorite winter haunt of many Canadian and American snowbirds.

Progreso is a small fishermen town , and the most important port in Yucatan located only 20 minutes driving from merida the biggest city in the peninsula, with one million population with all the major services and activities of a big city.

Villa 'los cantaritos' is our family beach home, we spend here all the summers and some weekends running away from the stress or just looking for fun.

The house is fully equipped with all the services you might need, WiFi, phone, cable TV, hot water, private pool, laundry room, etc...

All four bedrooms are built for comfort with great pillows and high thread count linens. We also provide bath and beach towels 100% cotton.

Because of it´s great location you won´t depend on the car necessarily, public transportation is right on the corner and it very safe and cheap (5 pesos each way to downtown progreso or downtown chixchulub). From progreso to merida there are shuttles every 15 minutes for 16 pesos -the schedule is from 5 am until 10 pm-

Less than 150 meters from the house you will find convenience stores, tortilla shop, butcher shop, local pizza place, catholic church, etc...

We are happy to have at the corner, one of the most famous 'pescaderia' (fish restaurant) in the port, a local restaurant named 'la isla' where you can enjoy traditional fish dishes, 'ceviches' and 'pescado frito' to say the least.

For the guests that are not interested in cooking every day, 2 blocks away there are two delivery homemade cooking places that have 2 or 3 dishes options every day (portion is around 45 pesos).

Progreso is an excellent relaxing alternative,to enjoy the ocean breeze, read a book, lay under the sun, take a nap in a hamaca and progreso could be a great starting point ,if you want to visit all Yucatan and its many attractions, beginning with the historic city of merida built in 1600´s over the ancient Mayan city named tho.

Merida is a city you will love to visit, world famous because of its colonial buildings, its amazing food and the kindness of its people.

If you need more activities Yucatan has endless attractions we can recommend you; swim or dive in one of the famous cenotes, mayan ruins very close to progreso as dzibixaltun, visit the hacienda hotel xcanatun and eat in its gourmet restaurant $$$, visit the flamenco sanctuary, chicen itza ruins (one of the modern seven wonders of the world), uxmal ruins, hear a serenade at Santa Lucia park, ride in a horse carriage on the paseo montejo avenue, or just hire a fish trip and enjoy the views while the fisherman cooks a fresh Mexican style ceviche.

For larger groups we can also offer the upper apartment fully equipped. It has its own entrance on the side, there is no entrance from the house.

If you are ready call me asap, i will be glad to help you to have the best vacation ever.

We enjoyed our stay, but not so much the area.

  • 3 of 5

I wish I could click some where between average and good but no go. Let me start out by saying we did enjoy our stay. That being said, we did have issues. Let me start out with the positives. The booking process was smooth. Directions provided were accurate and easy to follow. Mario and Mirabella, the caretakers are the best. They will do anything you ask them to make your stay better. They do not speak any English so it can be a challenge but with due diligence its not impossible. The deck is great. The pool is a little small and not heated so it can be very chilly. The view from the deck is great. I could sit there all day and watch the surf. The beach is fairly covered with seaweed all the time and the smell from the neighbors huge pile of rotting seaweed can be strong if the wind is blowing right. The listing mentions that there are many stores and amenities nearby. I wish we knew where as we did not find them. With the one exception of La Isla restaurant which was terrible. You will need a car to get around unless you want to wait for the bus to take you into the town center. The house itself is nice but is in need of a face lift. The queen size bedroom is not really a queen and really is a double and there is no ceiling fan in that room so it can get a bit warm. There is no A/C. The beds are a bit hard. The bathrooms are in OK shape but each one has its pros and cons. The shared bath between the twin rooms is by far the best. Big shower but could use a new shower head. No hot water in the sink in this room which makes shaving difficult. The King room the toilet clogged several times and the shower head was barely a trickle and fell off during our stay. The queen room bath is small and only a trickle of water comes out of the sink. The listing mentions there is a hair dryer but there was not one so we had to go out and buy one. If you are not a Spanish speaker the TV is useless as all the channels are Spanish and the English ones are blocked. The wifi works great. The kitchen is functional with a cold fridge. Used the oven once and it worked fine. The water heater is super small and barely enough for one shower so you need to wait for it to reheat for more than one shower. Its small though so it recovers fairly quick. The area is fairly windy so this can make the deck a bit of a challenge, especially at night. All in all we had a good time but had we known some of these things would probably have not stayed here. But it may be your cup of tea.

Winter escape

  • 4 of 5

This family-owned property is right on the beach walking distance to Progreso. The house itself is large with 4 bedrooms, and the beds are quite comfortable. Wonderful to hear the sound of crashing surf - although the wind and waves can get wild when the wind is coming from the north across the gulf. The kitchen is tiny but well equipped and works for cooking meals at home. The living / dining room furniture is kind of uncomfortable. But you'd rather be outside, right? The patio is lovely and has a small pool. You will get all the help you need from the wonderful caretakers Maribel and Mario. You don't have to drive far to see the smaller local Mayan ruins and lagoons with flamingos. Very clean and functional, at a terrific price if you have a large group - we had 9 people from 4 families. The gulf is shallow and murky along this coast, but clean and refreshing for swimming.

The PERFECT vacation rental in Progreso

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect place. The beach is at your back door, the place is huge, and the owner is great to work with. This is the best value on the beach (and I mean "on the beach" too!), just far enough away to get some solitude and close enough to be able to walk to everything you need.

The caretakers (Mario and Maribel) who live on site are as helpful as anyone I have ever met - willing and able to accommodate any need that you may have. They are always there if you need them, but so quiet and unobtrusive that you dont even know they are there. A special shout-out to Maribel who became like family to us.

The kids had a great time swimming in the pool or the ocean, using the kayaks, hunting for cool shells, etc. We had a relaxing time knowing that we could see the kids from the patio and from in the pool.

Great people and a fabulous place.
