A Truly Perfect Family Vacation!!
This comfortable home was perfect for our family vacation. With little ones between the ages of 6 months and 6 years, 10 adults and a sweet black Lab, we searched for weeks for a home that offered something for everyone. The rooms were beautifully kept and the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to live there all week. The bedrooms were such a nice size as were the 2 bathrooms upstairs. Along with the handy upstairs laundry room, they were stocked with plenty of linens, blankets and towels. The kitchen was perfect with everything you needed to make wonderful meals. The dining room off the kitchen was a gathering spot but we spent most of our mealtimes on the porch or back by the pool with handy grills. Our young grandkids loved toddling on the giant front lawn and the 6 year old was in the pool all week making good use of the diving board. The dock with 2 paddleboards, a canoe and our own kayak was the place for everyone to get a good workout and a lot of laughs! The home was so comfortable with all the amenities of our own home. The picturesque view from the lovely porch made it the gathering spot for everyone. Downtown Southold was only a 10 minute walk away with the IGA supermarket, Ace Hardware and many little spots for lunch or a quick donut & coffee, yet you felt miles away from any busy roads--a quiet and peaceful vacation home. There was so much to do nearby and we did take advantage of nearby wineries Jamesport and Kontekosta. We also spent a few hours in Greenport, riding the carousel with our granddaughter and enjoying ice cream while watching the harbor activity from Preston's dock. However, we really did spend most of our time at the house. It was a phenomenal, relaxing vacation in a truly perfect setting. We all definitely will return to have another unforgettable family getaway!! Many thanks to Connie & her crew!
Grandmother's House Indeed!!
I cannot thank the owners enough for making Grandmother's house available. As the grandmother, this setting provided my family with the vacation experience I had hoped for. The house is free of fancy, but full of everything that is important to the making of memories. We lived on the front porch, and the pool provided endless hours of entertainment. The house is comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped and the small dock, complete with a canoe and paddle boards, was an added bonus. The owners were very helpful, welcoming to children, cooperative and inviting. At the end of our week the only consolation was that I had to get back to work so that we could get to come out again next year. Thank you for a truly wonderful family gathering!
We booked this home for a long Memorial Day weekend. There were 10 of us in total (2 couples and 6 friends). When we first drove up and went inside, I wasn't sure if we had the right house, because the pictures on VRBO do not do this place justice! The front and back yards (with heated pool!) are beautiful and well kept, the covered front porch is an amazing place to relax and enjoy the water view, and the kitchen/pantry are updated and well stocked. The house is large and well laid out, so even with 10 people we did not feel cramped. The house also comes with linens, towels, kitchen supplies, etc, so we didn't have to bring all that with us.
We planned on going winetasting, doing some exploring, and going out into the bay, etc, but the house was so nice and relaxing that we spent most of our time hanging out there. We went into Greenport for an afternoon and had dinner one night at Founder's Tavern - but cooking at the house was so convenient (and there is a supermarket less than 2 blocks away) so we ate all other meals at the house.
The owners are casual and welcoming, and we were especially excited that they let us bring our two Labrador retrievers (who had just as much fun as we did!). One of the owners lives next door, and he was friendly and helpful when we had questions, but still allowed us our privacy (for example, the internet wasn't working on our first day there, and he gave us his internet password so one of our friends could work remotely until our internet was fixed). The house is on a pebble road off a paved street (so it doesn't get much traffic at all) and the neighboring homes are close enough to not feel isolated but plenty far enough away to feel you have your own space. The furnishings are nice and clean but feel "lived in," so you don't feel like you're walking around a museum and can't touch anything.
Long story short - we all had a wonderful time and we miss it already! We really hope to come back and stay longer if possible!
Our 30 foot dock is ready for your boat which can take you to Southold Bay in minutes. From there you can enjoy all the restaurants and shopping in Greenport, Shelter Island and Sag Harbour in less than 15 minutes.
