About the property

Large 4 Bedroom Stone Rancher, Sleeps 14, Basement for Recreation, Fire Pit

If you simply need a break, you'll love to know that Lincoln House is set back in a private drive with beautiful views over Lancaster County farmlands.

This semi-secluded stone rancher (built in 1951) is set in the middle of a spacious 2 acre property on a hill away from Lincoln Highway with a large back lawn adjacent to a quiet pasture. It is only miles away from popular attractions.

The 3648 sq ft property itself has plenty of parking. Steps lead up to the main floor which contains a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge area. Bedding is provided for the 4 bedrooms. Towels and bathroom tissue are available in the 2 bathrooms. In the basement you will discover a large open-plan recreation area with a flat screen TV, a large table to play games, a pool table and an extra space for sleeping. The laundry has a washing machine and a tumble dryer for your convenience.

During the typical hotel stay, various members of your family would have been isolated from each other or crowded into a room at night. In contrast, our home offers you the opportunity to spend quality time together.

You may be lucky and see our groundhog, squirrel, rabbit and deer hanging out on the property. And then in June... our fireflies (aka lightning bugs) put on a spectacular show every night in the high trees surrounding the property line. No Hollywood or Disney show can beat this display!

About Susan Botes

Susan Botes, new hostess, is a contented local resident of picturesque Amish country in Lancaster County and it will be her joy to offer you a stay in this lovely guesthouse.

Susan Botes purchased this house in 2013

Why Susan Botes chose Gordonville

Lincoln House is a private, semi-secluded stone rancher, situated on a hill in rural Lancaster County, at the edge of large cities such as Lancaster and Philadelphia but near quaint little towns like Intercourse, Bird-in-Hand and Gap. In this case, the real estate agent mantra: "location, location, location", definitely applies. With horse-drawn buggies, vehicles, rollerblading Amish youth, and Amish men on scooters commuting to local jobs, it is truly unique, peaceful, quiet, and simply lovely. It is the perfect spot for a wonderful vacation that will suite every member of the family.

What makes this house unique

This semi-secluded home offers the best of both worlds. On the one hand, a 50's style stone rancher set in the middle of a spacious property on a hill away from Lincoln Highway with a large back lawn adjacent to a quiet pasture, and on the other, only miles from shopping centers, theme parks, local buggy rides, antique shops, and other popular attractions.

The property itself has plenty of parking. From the birds singing in the trees, to the horses in the back pasture, this property is the perfect place to start capturing and experiencing the essence of Amish Country in the midst of rural Lancaster County.

You may be lucky and see our groundhog, squirrel, rabbit and deer hanging out on the property. And then in June... our fireflies (aka lightning bugs) put on a spectacular show every night in the high trees surrounding the property line.

Lincoln House is close to quaint little towns such as Intercourse and Bird-in-Hand, two outlet malls, theme parks, local buggy rides, antique shops, restaurants, several state parks, and other popular attractions.

The large cities Lancaster and Harrisburg to the west and Philadelphia and New York City to the east could each easily be a day-outing. Picturesque and charming towns such as Strasburg, the village of Intercourse, Paradise, and Bird-in-Hand are only minutes away. The Fire and Ice Festival in Lititz is usually scheduled in February.

For serious shoppers, the Rockvale and Tanger Outlets are only minutes away, not to mention all the quilt shops available. The Sight & Sound Millennium Theater, Strasburg Rail Road, the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, Dutch Wonderland Amusement Park, Hershey Chocolate World, and the Shady Maple Smorgasbord and Farm Market are just a few of the popular attractions in the area. Cherry Crest Farms is 4 minutes away: a farm with a 5-acre corn maze, pumpkin patch, slides, wagon rides, a petting zoo & kids' festivals. If you are a sport enthusiast, you will be happy to know that the Spooky Nook Sports complex is reached in 21 minutes.

The Old Order Amish constitute a significant cultural presence because a large number of farms are owned by Amish families. These small scale farms often have small shops and dot the gently rolling and open landscape around the village. The horse-drawn buggies and vehicles occasionally compete for space with rollerblading Amish youth and Amish men on scooters commuting to local jobs, which in itself is a huge attraction.

The Annual Spring Sale and Auction of the Gordonville Fire Company and Ambulance Association, known locally as a mud sale, is held the second Saturday of March, and is the largest event of its kind on the East Coast. Many other mud sales are held in the area. Thousands of people attend to bid on farm machinery, horses, quilts, carriages, old stuff, and antiques. Antique shops are everywhere, with the closest right next door to Lincoln House: Jake’s Country Trading Post. You could literally just walk there and buy some lovely gifts.

After only scratching the surface of all the fun available so close by, we still have had some guests debate whether to rather just stay home and enjoy the quiet of this lovely house.

Clean and spacious home; Great location for visiting Lancaster

  • 5 of 5

This home was well-suited to our large family gathering (14 people). With 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths on the main level plus additional living and sleeping areas in the lower level, there was ample space for all of us. The home was clean and very-well stocked which we greatly appreciated. The location is convenient and is set well back from the road with a long driveway and ample parking for our 5 vehicles (no one had to move their vehicle so another could get out). We enjoyed our stay!

Great places to stay for a large group!

  • 4 of 5

Place was spacious and very clean. The basement was large and roomy with high quality Samsung large-screen TV and Blu-ray player, and streaming. House is right on the main highway, but hidden a little further back to dampen the noise. Very close to all the shops. Nice touches with hand soap and lotion in every bathroom. Kitchen is stl stocked, even paper plates, matches, and spices. (Just not a coffee maker; there are French presses). The owner texted us with answers to our questions.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the property for a weekend trip to Dutch Wonderland involving four families with small children 5 and under. This house was perfect for us. The bedrooms were a good size, the beds were comfortable, and there were plenty of towels. The kids loved the toys, games, and piano downstairs as well as running all over the yard. Adults and kids enjoyed the fire pit. Our hosts were friendly and readily available for questions. We will definitely come back!

Comfortable quiet stay

  • 5 of 5

Have stayed in many hotels and locations in Lancaster County over the years and would rate this one the highest. Well stocked kitchen, plenty of room, great beds and well kept. Great for a large family or group. Could use another TV. Hope to return.

Perfect for families with little kids

  • 4 of 5

Basement with Uno, toy train tracks, piano, dvd player/tv and lots of table space to play games together. Expect dim lighting in the house, but nice shower pressure and 1st floor with ample comfy bedding. Love the blankets and towels. Even provided lots of kitchen and fire pit things, although we recommend they make a list of goodies available to help visitors, e.g., marshmallow roasting sticks, wood and starter sticks, ground coffee/french press + tea, hairdryers. Great playground at Paradise Park 5 min drive away. Also, 12 min drive to the Red Caboose Motel grounds, which has a good restaurant, playground, passing Strasburg Steam Train at every :05 and :50 of the hour, free petting zoo. No need to sleep there. Great location in Amish country outside the traffic and suburbs of greater Lancaster. Dutch Wonderland was 20 min with traffic. Front porch is perfect for a nice day, if the bugs aren't out. Wish there were more screened windows to open up the house. But A/C worked well. Baked local Zook's pot pies for dinner. Overall, no hesitations on this locale. Owners checked in by text often.

Lovely old home in the heart of Lancaster Area.

  • 5 of 5

If you are coming to enjoy the scenery and to have a centralized place to sightsee, this is great. There is one large screen TV in the basement (the only tv) so the kids can watch and do their thing while the adults enjoy peace and quiet on the top floor. There is a nice fire pit with ample wood as well as chairs on the front porch. The house was immaculately cleaned and the yard well groomed. The only negative is that it sits a short piece off a very busy highway and you can hear traffic noise outside (but not inside at all), but that also makes the place fairly easy to find.
