About the property

SEMI-SECLUDED LARGE 4 BEDROOM RANCH HOUSE WITH BASEMENT FOR RECREATION

If you simply need a break, you'll love to know that the Lincoln House is set back in a private drive with beautiful views over Lancaster County farmlands.

This semi-secluded older ranch style stone dwelling is set in the middle of a spacious property on a hill away from Lincoln Highway with a large back lawn adjacent to a quiet pasture. It is only miles away from popular attractions.

The property itself has plenty of parking. Steps lead up to the main floor which contains a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge area. Bedding is provided for the 4 bedrooms. Towels and bathroom tissue are available in the 2 bathrooms. In the basement you will discover a large open-plan recreation area with a flatscreen TV, a large table to play games, a pool table and an extra space for sleeping. The laundry has a washing machine and a tumble dryer for your convenience.

During the typical hotel stay, various members of your family would have been isolated from each other or crowded into a room at night. In contrast, our home offers you the opportunity to spend quality time together.

About Susan Botes

Susan Botes, new co-hostess, is a contented resident of picturesque Amish Country in Lancaster County and it will be her joy to offer you a stay in this lovely guesthouse.

Susan Botes purchased this house in 2013

Why Susan Botes chose Pennsylvania

Lincoln House is a private, semi-secluded stone home, situated on a hill in rural Lancaster County, at the edge of large cities such as Lancaster and Philadelphia but near its own quaint little towns. In this case, the real estate agent mantra: "location, location, location", definitely applies. With horse-drawn buggies, vehicles, rollerblading Amish youth, and Amish men on scooters commuting to local jobs, it is truly unique, peaceful, quiet, and simply lovely. It is the perfect spot for a wonderful vacation that will suite every member of the family.

What makes this house unique

This semi-secluded home has the best of both worlds. On the one hand, an older ranch style stone dwelling set in the middle of a spacious property on a hill away from Lincoln Highway with a large back lawn adjacent to a quiet pasture, and on the other, only miles from shopping centers, theme parks, local buggy rides, antique shops, and other popular attractions.

The property itself has plenty of parking. From the birds singing in the trees, to the horses in the back pasture, this property is the perfect place to start capturing and experiencing the essence of Amish Country in the midst of rural Lancaster County.

The property is close to quaint little towns, shopping centers, theme parks, local buggy rides, antique shops, restaurants, several state parks, and other popular attractions.

The large cities Lancaster and Harrisburg to the west and Philadelphia and New York City to the east could each easily be a day-outing. Picturesque and charming towns such as Strasburg, the village of Intercourse, Paradise, and Bird-in-Hand are only minutes away. The Fire and Ice Festival in Lititz is usually scheduled in February.

For serious shoppers, the Rockvale and Tanger Outlets are only minutes away, not to mention all the quilt shops available. The Sight & Sound Millennium Theater, Strasburg Rail Road, the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, Dutch Wonderland Amusement Park, Hershey Chocolate World, and the Shady Maple Smorgasbord and Farm Market are just a few of the popular attractions in the area. Cherry Crest Farms is 4 minutes away: a farm with a 5-acre corn maze, pumpkin patch, slides, wagon rides, a petting zoo & kids' festivals. If you are a sport enthusiast, you will be happy to know that the Spooky Nook Sports complex is reached in 21 minutes.

The Old Order Amish constitute a significant cultural presence because a large number of farms are owned by Amish families. These small scale farms often have small shops and dot the gently rolling and open landscape around the village. The horse-drawn buggies and vehicles occasionally compete for space with rollerblading Amish youth and Amish men on scooters commuting to local jobs, which in itself is a huge attraction.

The Annual Spring Sale and Auction of the Gordonville Fire Company and Ambulance Association, known locally as a mud sale, is held the second Saturday of March, and is the largest event of its kind on the East Coast. Many other mud sales are held in the area. Thousands of people attend to bid on farm machinery, horses, quilts, carriages, old stuff, and antiques. Antique shops are everywhere, with the closest right next door to Lincoln House: Jake’s Country Trading Post. You could literally just walk there and buy some lovely gifts.

After only scratching the surface of all the fun available so close by, we still have had some guests debate whether to rather just stay home and enjoy the quiet of this lovely house.

Wonderful Family Time!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time using Home Away and it was a great experience! The home was spacious enough to vacation with our grown children and grandchild. Susan was an exceptional hostess...turning on the lights for our midnight arrival, fresh flowers on the table, helpful dining suggestions....We Look forward to our next visit to Lancaster and our stay in this home.

Great Place to Stay in Lancaster County

  • 5 of 5

Great house with lots of room inside and out, this house has a huge back yard and lots of space out front as well. There are a lot of trees to buffer the sight and sound of the road out front. It was close to lots of local attractions and shopping, we were there to visit relatives and it was a great central location for everyone to meet. The house is decorated very simply which we appreciated. They had everything we needed, lots of towels, toilet paper, soaps, etc., it was very homey. We used the grill but unfortunately, it rained the night we wanted to have a bonfire. We would definitely stay here again.

Renter BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1 of 5

The house didn't have any hot water the furniture is old and outdated most of the chairs rocked from side to side so you had to be very careful. The bed had an odor to it we had to go out and buy our on febreeze and new sheets from the walmart not to far. I would never stay at this home ever again.

Great place to stay with plenty of room!

  • 4 of 5

My family and I stayed in this house for our 2 day trip to Hershey and to view the Amish. We have never stayed in a rental house, but we considered it so we could be altogether and help my sister-in-law and brother with their 3 young children. All together there were 7 adults and 3 children. Plenty of room available. Lots of parking. The house was clean (which was very important to my comfort) and everyone was together instead of splitting up into hotel rooms. It was lovely. The house is about 45 min from Hershey park and 20 min or so from the Amish. Plenty of restaurants in the area as well. The owner was very accommodating and provided all the necessary information for a great stay. We will definetly be staying here again.
