A magnificent year-round holiday retreat, on majestic Skeleton Lake. This quiet waterfront property is nestled in Long Bay. It is situated on 2 acres of mature treed lot having 410’ feet of Lake Frontage a sprawling 250 feet of shallow waters and 150' of white sandy beach. You will find the main cottage , lake side cabana and in the woods guest bunk perfectly located with lake views. The cottage is situated a mere 66’ from the water’s edge. This 850 square foot cottage, has 2 bedrooms (sleeps up to 6) one (4 piece bath), living room, dining room, kitchen and Muskoka room. The lake side cabana sleeps 2 in a romantic setting at the waters edge. Your guests will enjoy the privacy of of the bunkie in the woods which sleeps 2. The cottage interior is best described as, luxury living meets vintage Muskoka. The cottage is designed around a cozy cathedral-ceiling great room, having wall to wall windows facing west. A wide screen TV, 3 seater leather couch, and 2 club chairs make it is the perfect sitting area the family. At one end of this main level is the master bedroom. It has a lounging chair nestled between a south and west window with views of the forest and lake. Next to the master bedroom is the guest bedroom, it houses a custom built bunk bed with 2 double size mattresses and can sleep up to 4. The galley kitchen has full size stainless steel appliances. Electric stove, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave make cooking at the cottage a breeze. The dining area seats 4-5 comfortably and has a view of the lake. It is open to the kitchen and adjacent to the Muskoka porch making dining inside or outside convenient.

There is a bathroom located at the end of the galley kitchen. It has been outfitted with a shower and 5ft. long bathtub to accommodate soaking. Large double screen doors open into a fully screened in porch. The waterfront here is the envy of many a cottage. Entry to the water is a soft sandy beach which is shallow and extends some 75 feet out before reaching a depth of 5 feet.

About the lake of the thousands of lakes in Ontario, Skeleton Lake is one of the largest. It has a circumference of about 25 miles and has been called the clearest lake in Canada. Unlike most of the area lakes, which are souvenirs of the glacial age, Skeleton is believed to have formed as a result of a meteorite impact. Being a spring-fed lake, it is very, very clear and on calm days one can easily see down to depths of 20 or more meters.

There is much to explore by boat. A short distance around the lake is hiking trails, a waterfall, children’s camp and shallow public beach with picnic tables.

Fishing is great – in summer or in winter : The Ministry of Natural Resources, Bracebridge has prepared a Fact Sheet on Skeleton Lake.

Skeleton Lake is described as a deep, clear, cold water lake. Biologists term it an Oligotrophic

lake, that is a lake with low nutrient levels and low productivity.

The Fact Sheet describes Skeleton Lake features as:

Surface Area: 2075 ha.

Maximum Depth: 65 m.

Perimeter: 42 km.

Island Shoreline: 17 km.

Watershed: 50.2

Elevation: 281 m. asl.

The Fact Sheet lists the fish species as:

Major Fish: Smallmouth bass (I), lake trout, walleye (I), lake whitefish.

Other Fish: rainbow smelt (I), white sucker, bluntnose minnow, rock bass (I), brown

bullhead, yellow perch, trout-perch, creek chub, lake chub, pumpkinseed.

Other Species: spiny water flea (I 1998)

Note: (I 1998) is introduced in year 1998.

The Fact Sheet Synopsis states that the water quality is excellent. The temperature-oxygen profile

indicates that there is considerable amount of habitat available to lake trout.

Bracebridge is about 40 minutes away. There are good restaurants, interesting shopping, Santa’s Village, an internet cafe, live theater and craft shows. The towns of Huntsville (near Algonquin Provincial Park) and Parry Sound (with its access to Georgian Bay) are also less than an hour’s drive. Arrowhead and Algonquin Parks offer more nature to those nature enthusiasts. The town of Huntsville is itself a huge art gallery, with Group of Seven murals hung on more than 20 buildings in the area. Golfers will want to spend a day at Diamond in the Ruff, Deerhurst Highlands or Deerhurst Lakeside. Anglers might be interested in spending a day at Lake Vernon with a Hooked Young fishing tour.

The cottage is quaint and charming on a beautiful bay on the lake. Wonderful sunsets! The area has amazing walks if you want to be active. Plenty of space to spread out on this 4+ acre property.

Owner's Response: Thank you for being our guests. We can't take credit for the natural beauty that surrounds Skeleton Lake. However, we do take pride in providing a comfortable cottage experience, with all the trimmings, that compliments this awesome setting. We hope you come back soon! S&D Crisp

Absolutely amazing!!!

We booked this trip quite early in the year, hoping to get away to a nice cottage in a quiet peaceful setting. We had no expectations, other than finding a place that was dog friendly. Being able to bring our 6 yr old Shitzu (Joey) was very important. From the moment we pulled up, our breaths were taken away, and we knew this was the perfect place for us. Darren and Suzy thought of everything right down to small details that made our stay that much more personal and enjoyable. From the welcome sign with all of our names on it, yes even Joeys, to the beautifully hand written card, champagne and dog treats, nothing was overlooked, and we really appreciated the thoughtfulness. The cottage is in pristine condition and beautifully decorated. It was clean, and an utter delight to call home for the next week. Everything was provided in terms of dishes, cutlery, pots and pans, you name it, it was all there. It took us a few moments to soak it all in as this kind of attention to detail is rare. The outside is just as beautiful. The grounds are very well maintained, the cottage is very private and nicely tucked away into the forest, with your own private sand beach. Joey absolutely loved the outdoors, being able to run around, swim in the water, roll in the sand and soak up the sun on the dock. He was in doggy heaven and we have never seen him so relaxed in a strange setting. We took advantage of the paddle boat and canoe provided to us and used these to explore around the lake. There are not enough words to describe how beautiful this place is, and how happy we were to have stayed there. A big thank you to Darren and Suzy for opening up their cottage to us and for making us feel really special. We will definitely be coming back!

Owner's Response: Oh wow! How nice are our guests to be so generous with their review. We are so flattered that our efforts are recognized and appreciated. It's all about creating the best summer vacation experience ever. Being dog owners/lovers ourselves, it warms our hearts to hear our furry friends are enjoying summer vacation as much as their owners. A special thanks to you both for taking such good care of the cottage. Like we've said many times, it is our pleasure to share Beachwood Lake House with our past, current and future guests. It doesn't get any better than when our guests have an awesome time here! Look forward to having you all back on Skeleton Lake. Sincerely, Suzy, Darren and Chester (Wheaten Terrier) too.

Everything promised and a bit more!

I was quite nervous as this was the first time I had used this site and rented a cottage. I specifically wanted a secluded, relaxing cottage with a beach that was dog friendly but was not a hut in the middle of nowhere.

This is a home from home. Really Darren and Suzy had thought of everything. From water and some soft drinks in the fridge to moisturiser and lotion in the bathroom. Travelling on my own with my dogs, this for me was a piece of paradise. Looking forward to my next stay. Thank you so much. Jo

Owner's Response: We are always so pleased to hear that a guest had a pleasant experience at Beachwood. We approach this rental cottage as if we were the guests, what would we need, what would we want, how would we like to be treated, what would make the experience memorable- in a good way...then we set out to make it a reality for those who come to stay. We have said this before....we love being able to share this place with all those looking to for a little piece of heaven on a lake. It was our pleasure to have you up Jo! We are so happy that you and beloved pets had a nice time. Hope to see you back on the lake Suzy and Darren

Darren and Suzy really go above and beyond to ensure their guests experience the perfect holiday at their Beachwood Lake House on Muskoka's Skeleton Lake. Upon our arrival, Darren gave us the tour of this beautiful property - it is fully equipped with everything needed and then some. The welcome gifts of chilled prosecco, raisin tarts and some treats for our dog, Blue, were a nice surprise. We were even treated to a fun boat tour of the area! The house, overlooking the lake, is very charming and cozy. We had campfires on the beach every night except 1 (due to rain) and enjoyed the shooting stars and the sounds of owls, turkeys and loons. Days were spent exploring with walks in the woods, swimming, canoeing, visiting the local villages near by or just relaxing with a book on the dock. We've already booked for next year!

Owner's Response: We especially love sharing this property with guests who equally appreciate its beauty. Our intent was to build a cottage that offers most of the comforts of home without overshadowing the natural beauty of the property, lake, and wildlife. We believe our guests feel we have accomplished that, plus a few little surprises. We are looking forward to seeing you back on Skeleton Lake for Summer 2016! Suzy, Darren and Chester too

A Great Place

This cottage had everything we needed for a nice, relaxing vacation. It's a quiet spot, and our young grandchildren enjoyed the beach. Since the water was shallow, it was easy for them to enjoy the sand and play in the water. It was also fun to tour Skeleton Lake in our boat and for the girls to catch fish and look for frogs.
