About Anthony Gaeta

Cathy and I purchased the cabin in 1983 to bring up our 2 son we can ski and snowmobile. I became a mountain guide at Stratton MT and loved the many Ski areas in the area and the beautiful from VT mountains. We expanded over the years and only started renting it in the past few years with all home comforts. We picked the area close to Bennington Airport since I flew a single engine to VT on weekend or drove for only 4 HRS from central NJ where we lived. The house is enchanting and cozy even being so large.

Anthony Gaeta purchased this cabin in 1983

Why Anthony Gaeta chose Shaftsbury

We purchased the property in 1983 in the scenic town of Shaftsbury VT between Bennington and Manchester VT so as to be close to an airport(Bennington AP) since we flew up in my single engine plane from NJ to enjoy skiing, hiking, hunting and swimming in the clear beautiful Shaftsbury Park fresh water lake about 1.5 mi on historic 7A with my wife and 2 sons now grown up with families.

What makes this cabin unique

The house sits high on a beautiful park setting with historic stone walls demarking the property in a residential area right off of Historic 7a.The location is convenient for traveling south to Bennington or NYS or North to Arlington, Manchester, Rutland,VT etc., next to beautiful Shaftsbury Park & Lake and beach.

Wonderful cozy getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here over New Year's with three families and it was ideal. It is HUGE for one thing, with so much space for kids to do their thing and beds aplenty. Everyone loved the hot tub and jacuzzi. Nearby is a lovely state park with a lake.

The master bedroom is practically the size of a house by itself, so if you intend to share, keep in mind that the bedrooms are not even in terms of awesomeness, but we were all very comfortable.

Our stay was great. Adorable house and not far from a ski mountain. Would definitely go back!

  • 5 of 5

The house had everything we needed and was in great condition. The owner (Anthony) was very accommodating and super helpful. The basement was a great place to hang out, the master bedroom was massive and super comfortable, the living area was used the whole entire weekend, and the hot tub was a great addition to the house. We made dinner in the kitchen one night and had everything we needed. Would recommend this house to anyone who is looking to get away for a relaxing and enjoyable weekend. Would love to come back next year!

Lovely getaway for large groups

  • 5 of 5

As the other positive reviews state, this cabin is great for large groups! We were two families of 9 adults/young adults, and all the space in the common areas was so nice. The dining room table was the perfect size for our 2000-piece puzzle which we did not finish! We probably needed another two weeks at the cabin for that. The multiple bedrooms and bathrooms were great for our group. The second bedroom used to be the master bedroom and is much more spacious than it looks in the photo. The mattress is a little hard for my taste, but I slept fine anyway. There's new(er) carpet in the basement. The fourth bedroom is in the basement and doesn't have windows, but the younger adults didn't mind--it helped them sleep even more. We did have to scrounge up more blankets for the person who slept on the basement couch--apparently that part of the basement was a bit chilly (perhaps a duvet or warm comforter would be good). The cabin is cozy and full of character--clearly the Gaetas put a lot of love into it, from the decorations to the additions. The wood walls and ceiling reminded me of a Swiss chalet.Tony provided real hands-on "customer service," from pre arrival phone calls/emails/texts to arranging for someone to plow the driveway, upon my request, when we needed to get out during a snow storm on our last day. All the appliances worked just fine, as did the TVs and the wifi. There is an extra fee for the hot tub, and the younger adults enjoyed it several times. It did start to emit a strong chemical odor after a couple of days, but I let Tony know so he could make sure to have it fixed for the next occupants. The location is great for both skiers and non-skiers--there's a lot to do, and we barely scratched the surface. We'd definitely stay there again!

Great Place - nice family getaway

  • 5 of 5

Lots of space, very clean and cozy. Quiet, beautiful outdoor setting. Owner was very helpful and called to follow up after the trip. Bedrooms were large and common spaces had plenty of room for everyone. Plenty of dishes and kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, etc. If we head to Vermont again, we would certainly stay here. Wonderful weekend experience.

Dirty log cabin with no amenities

  • 1 of 5

This place is a disaster and I would not recommend it for anyone!

We received a call about a week prior to our arrival from the owner saying that a pipe had burst in the basement and that we would not be able to utilize that space. We should have taken that as a sign not to stay in this cabin.

This cabin is the dirtiest, dustiest place I've ever stayed. There was so much stuff crammed into spaces that there is no way it is ever actually clean. From the Christmas tree still up in June to the hundreds of figurines on any flat surface available. It doesn't feel like home it feels like a garage sale.

The showers had black hair stuck to the walls. There was mouse poop found in the kitchen cabinets. This is apparently an issue because the owner left notes for the caretaker saying to be sure it gets cleaned up. There was no wifi (although the owner claimed a hot spot is the same as high speed). This "hot spot" wasn't accessible by anyone who stayed in the house all weekend. There are many televisions in the rental however only one actually worked.

The refrigerator was not working when we arrived. Imagine having multiple families staying for a weekend and not having a refrigerator! We had to go out and purchase coolers and ice so we didn't lose the food we purchased.

We tried to use the gas grill and there was no gas. We had to go out and purchase gas so we could cook the food kept cold by the coolers and ice we also had to purchase.

The hot tub was not working during our stay. There were ants all over the kitchen.

All in all not a good experience. We did receive a small reimbursement for not being able to use the basement. It hardly made up for not having a refrigerator, hot tub, the disgusting state of the cabin, and having to purchase coolers and ice.

Owner's Response: yes, there was a flood in the basement due to a failed well tank relief valve. I had Servpro clean up and dry all surfaces. there was no mold detected. notified the guest who decided not to cancel and use the 2500 sq ft upper level. I would have returned his money if requested. As far as his description of the cleanliness of the cabin is not valid. It was cleaned and prepared for their coming. As far as the complained about the Christmas tree and various decorations and paintings it was visible in the VRBO listing. Guess he could not appreciate the finer things. The TV worked in all rooms when I was there the day before. Guess he did not know how to use the Comcast boxes which were high end HDTV sets. Additionally, the Verizon internet device worked for me, however, the cell signal may have been low that time. The refrigerator was cold when I was there and I feel he may have left the door open causing a need to defrost. I had it defrosted the next morning at 10 am while they were out. I must say they left the house very messy with 20 bags of garbage for just 2 nights. They had a large party with pierced balloons taped to the ceiling beams as well as dirty diapers on the bathroom floor. Unfortunately, the hot tub had an issue which I returned the charge to them. I have never had a negative review like this. All have stated the cabin was beautiful, well furnished and large. It was clear he pressed for a lot of money back which I credit him 30%. He wanted a lot more and seemed to be the type to wants something for nothing. I'm sorry I had to respond this way but this guy was ungrateful for all my immediate responses to him. He must do this at other places. Beware of renting to the person.
