Why Cindy and Dave Ferguson chose Cambridge
The Eastern Shore is one of Maryland's best kept secrets. Just sixty minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Washington and Baltimore to your private vacation located a few miles outside of the city limits of downtown Cambridge, 'The Jewel of the Eastern Shore'. Come by land, sea,or fly in to our local airport. Bring your boat, bring your horse, bring your golf clubs, and prepare yourself for a weekend or week of fun and relaxation. This completely renovated 3600 square foot home located on a private 27 acre estate is nestled a mere 200 feet from the banks of the Choptank River. Whether you have had a full day of shopping and antiquing in nearby Easton, Oxford, or St. Michaels or are tired from a day of golf at the country club less than two miles from the home, or just lazing away the day on your private secluded beach; the sounds of the river lapping on the shoreline will gently massage your worries away as you sleep. This century old estate offers our guests exclusive privacy unlike your typical beachgoers. Plan however to have plenty of visitors during your stay. Horns Point is abundant with wildlife. Families of deer tend to the fallen fruits in our orchard, while restless squirrels scurry collecting nuts for their long winters nap. The American bald eagles fly high above their osprey relatives, all looking for a snack to feed their brood. Venture out for an early morning walk or run on this deserted dead end back road and you may run into our masked neighbors as they make their way back to their daytime burrow or amazed by the aerobatic maneuvers of the flying Delmarva fox squirrels, or follow the rattata sound until you reach the location of a pileated woodpecker. Every morning you can witness the aerobatic maneuvers of our duck squadron as they do an early morning flyby, or the ballet performance of a flock of Canadian geese or Great Blue Herons.
What makes this House unique
The large stately trees on this property initially captivated us and then it was the privacy, broad water vistas, gorgeous moon beam rises and wonderful sunrises. The sunsets are also beautiful as the opposite shoreline glows with the setting sun.

We loved our time in Cambridge! The home offered an escape from the activity downtown and our dogs loved the sprawling property. The beds are a little difficult for older guests, but the house is perfect for young families!
Great property on the Choptank
Dave and Cindy have a wonderful property on the banks of the Choptank. There is a main property, along with a red cottage and a garage that includes a recreation room. The surrounding lawn are wonderful for games and relaxing.
Family Fun on the Choptank
Our family has rented many times from HomeAway and this may have been our best experience. The house and grounds were wonderful from the pool to the beach and fishing pier. The kids loved kayaking on the Choptank and. Beach bonfire We took a short 1 hour drive to Assateague to see the wild ponies and swim in the ocean . The house had everything we needed and Cindy and Dave followed up quickly to our questions. We would recommend this house to anyone seeking a family vacation!
Family Reunion at The Retreat and Cottage
We had a family reunion at The Retreat; we also rented the cottage (July 2019.) It is a gorgeous setting on the Choptank River. I was surprised and pleased with how quiet the river was. We saw working boats go by, but few recreational boats were in the area. Thus, it was peaceful and relaxing on the beach, the pier or the patio. The property is also beautifully landscaped with open areas as well as plenty of shade trees.
The house is beautiful and well setup for guests. We filled the house to capacity and still had room for groups to congregate in different places. Also, we had many small children, so I was relieved that the pool had a secure fence around it with a lock impossible for young children to open. Actually, the pool itself is well designed with a built in bench and stairs along one end and a corner seat at the other end - great for toddlers, teens and adults.
My brother and I met on the pier each morning and sat on the bench to enjoy the sunrise. My sons-in-law enjoyed fishing on the pier. Most days were a combination of mornings at the beach swimming, floating or playing in the sand, quiet early afternoons and late afternoons at the pool. After putting the kids to bed, it was a bonfire on the beach with some kayaking thrown in.
I don't think we could have found a more perfect place to gather for a week of family bonding and fun.
Perfect place to reconnect with family
We had the best Labor Day weekend getaway! 7 adults, 7 children (24 to 4 months!) and 1 dog were all well accommodated here. Sleeping arrangements were perfect and never an issue with bathrooms. This location offers a great place to relax and have fun. We were in the pool, out in the kayaks, crabbing with the pots provided by Dave, hunting for sea glass and fishing on the pier! Oh, forgot the evening of smores! We were so content playing games and hanging out we never explored the game room available. Next time! The kitchen was very well stocked and made meal prep and clean up easy for this group. Hate to tell everyone how great it is and how accommodating Dave and Cindy are because then it will be hard to book it in the future. Need someplace to take the family away from it all but still close enough to run out for milk or pick up crabs? This is your place.
Thank you for your kind review. We strive to be available to help but stay out of the way to let you enjoy your time. Thanks for treating our place as nicely as your own and glad the family made many happy memories. Thank you for choosing us!
Unwinding in the Chesapeake Bay area!
This property had everything we needed to get some R&R with our entire family! The pool was beautiful and we loved hanging out on the dock. The house was beautiful and roomy with a gorgeous view from every window. Owners, Cindy & Dave, were quick to answer all of our questions before we arrived and after we got there.
We are located just 5 minutes from town and down the street from Cambridge Country Club with golf course, restaurant and also the University of Maryland Environmental Research Center. There are many restaurants, shops, museums and natural attractions in the area. The Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge is nearby and boasts many nesting eagles. We have our own eagles and ospreys that nest in front of the house.
